OK, we can do that, but I want you to test out the close combat values against a Psyro first, just to get a feel for it. thoeretically, I think the Psyro should have the advantage, but thats just me. if worse comes to worse, we can lose the knife, but I think its a cool addy. or we could even have the knife, increase ACA scores when it is drawn. we can try it a few ways.

yeah, it's the same general framework, but the knife attack itself was a "base to base contact" alternative to close combat for a SOC. basically conducted the same as a "ranged attack". of course, close combat could be conducted instead, and the SOC should have some formidable ACA/DCA scores. The Parrying option is just a thought, we can keep that on the back burner for a test run. One thing about the knife is, in theory its one of those weapons that if you do use, you'll hope it finishes the target in one stroke, otherwise, you could be in trouble if the target gets activated next. check your email for the latest update of the TAK X1, Prone and Kneel stats are merged, and tweaked a bit for ease.

yeah, that is a little on the abstract side of things. honestly, I rarely use close combat anyway, but I'm not bothered by it. however.... I can give a simple clause to open up some Hand to Hand, without changing any of the SOC's data. the option to parry; SOCs are the only unit capable of "defensive fire" against a knife attack. bear with me. the SOC has the option of returning the attack, thus the attackers knife value versus the defenders arm value or the SOC has the option of parrying the attack, knife value vrs knife value, and no attack is returned. what do you think? I'm gonna merge the Kneel and Prone data, I think that would simplify the process more.

yeah, I think you caught the knife issue dead on, if the thing is going to be used, it's going to hurt and it isn't going to be used like a gun. But going back to the Kneel/prone issue, I think merging that would work, I just need your opinion. One thing to remember about close combat; this is not hand to hand combat. this is simply manuevering and attacking within close proximity. the Knife attack is hand to hand combat, and if a CAV has no hands, well, it's really a one sided attack. One thing though, I don't really want to get into kicking and punching, because I think that take us down a road Reaper intentionally tried to avoid. Besides this is a 40 -45 ton machine, sure there may be "weak points" in the chassis that may equate to "pressure points" and such, but a machine isn't "going to respond to pain", only the physical attributes of hitting these points. I don't think it was laziness on Reapers part, I just think they really wanted to avoid overcomplicating the game for these same reasons. what we're doing with this Cybot, is "finding a happy medium", it's gonna be a little more to grasp at than a typical CAV, but yet simple in its own right.

I'm thinking we can fuse the "Kneel" and "prone" data to one set of scores, I was originally thinking "kneel" could be a requirement for some future equipment, but merging that stat would be easier to manage, as for "prep a claymore", we can always merge the PW cost there too. the question remaining, should "Prep a Claymore" also draw on movement costs (because of the kneeling involved)? As for the high AV value for the Bowie. Who brings a knife to a gunfight? comes a simple grunt answer. if I'm right on you with a knife, its all ready too late for you.... imagine the damage caused by a knife penatrating into the cockpit of a CAV.
  6. What! homeboy, I'm 33 and Q is 38, for what we do, we're considered seniors. I'll drop you an email when I do shoot that way. though this next time, is business, so gaming is out of the question anyway.
  7. All these Northern Militia guys, dang OK, looks like Serpentine Fire has double duty. bear in mind, I may need a few months to get this troop in shape. I hang out in Easton a lot; my best friend Marv Lister AKA "Pharoah Q" along with most his family live there, you probably know them or about them. They're all huge into DJing and I do a lot of rhymes for them. (D Cruz) His brother Mike, Will and Alonzo are all into the music (Mixmaster Mike Nice, don't remember what Will calls himself these days, and DJ Kollage) I'm probably going there either this weekend or the next.

Nothing here is considered a slam bro, this is why you actually have the datacards; because you might catch something Red and I didn't, and thats just as important as the green light. For the most part, everything does follow the design rules, but the problem was certain characteristics were not covered by them, so as I said before, some things had to be set aside. extra points were tacked on the cost of the chassis and the optional weapons were priced individually. for example, there is nothing in the JOR covering hand held weapons, so what we did is sort of follow the design rules, and added more of a power requirement because of extra arm movements required to target and fire. next up was the ability to switch between weapons, something of a characteristic only a machine like this would have, but that would require additional power as opposed to simply switching weapons mode. won't escape that, that is their strength. the optional weapons themself are much larger than a light CAV is supposed to carry; so they are comparable to a large CAV. Ideally I was looking at this like, what is a typical grunt capable of bringing to the battlefield and it came down to a Rifle, Pistol, Bayonet, and an AT weapon. that is the most basic battle-rattle so being that these machines emulate humans more so than a CAV, it only made sense to follow that route as opposed to treating it like a typical CAV. hence the crawling, kneeling and scaling; thats just the damage track system dictating how much movement points and power required to do these things. The knife is a new twist, how would you manage a weapon like that? its not a weapon that requires the same kind of targeting as a typical CAV weapon so would it trigger defensive fire? if you feel its AV is high we can work with that, but also remember, after one DT of damage, the weapon is gone for good. since other SOCs carry this same weapon, they could defend themselves with it. the hull down bonus in the prone is pretty much common sense, less of a target site picture. in this mode the SOC is harder to hit; grunts do this everyday. ACA/DCA can be worked with, but I want to get away from the thought that, because a machine has hands, it should be better in close combat. "Close combat" should be a last extreme, especially for a machine as light as this; hence the reason many of the larger weapons went with range as opposed to firepower.
  9. bro I got 2 Hauptmann and a box of Badgers I still need to send out; I'm procrastinating too damn much. I don't need any motorcycles at the moment but thanks for asking. I'm signing out for the day peace!
  10. he tells us this now after we went all out with the Special Operations Cybot. heh, heh; I will definately bookmark this. Look in your email Mike, I'm sending you the SOC data cards. you might like this thing.
  11. If I don't mind mangaesque HAHAHA! ..... wait a bit HAHAHA! Ok, Ok i can't breath, shuw! Ok, ready man Maybe I am not in as deep as Jeneki, but I can't get enough of the stuff. Alltime favorite series Star Blazers (Space Cruiser Yamato) Battle of the Planets Macross and Voltron current running favorite Doomed Megalopolis Samuari X Full Metal Panic I can never get enough mecha, man! I learned how to sketch, and devolop a story from watching Anime. HAHAHA!

    Ok Mech-heads!!

yeah that would be a model space drawing; I have to create a plot layout for you then, so you can see it in volo view. the base you're looking at is a buildup of the Fort Wolf garrison area.
  13. heh, heh, heh hey man, you know how Lone Wolf Company kind of "breaks the mold" in CAV organization, would you expect anything less in HG? As if Clan Lone Wolf and the Minnisota Tribe/House Al Rashaad Biomechs wasn't bad enough ....... Anyway, the wheels are turning, but I have to peruse through whats available now. I'll figure out something thats a little off the rocker.
  14. well, I was actually thinking after they are tested out a bit, but if you want to incorporate the test for the campaign, thats cool too. I'm always open to ideas. If you want to go stock at first, I'm cool with that; just give me an idea of what optional weapons you choose (rifles, grenades, etc, etc) so I can get a point cost and weigh that against the mission profile. I don't want to assign them to a situation that may be way more than they could handle.
  15. Red I'm tweaking some campaign data at this moment go ahead and give me a basic loadout of how you want to use the SOC, but I would prefer you use one of each variant. the max is 1500 points, just let me know what weapons, and upgrades you choose. the SOC is a single pilot thing so consider the WSO upgrade as levels of AI programming. I will write up the kill the TACOPS, and underground infiltration scenario based on your tactical load outs.
  16. that's exactly the problem here, aside from a few family members as regulars, drumming up support is tough. Well, in Lancaster thats the case for sure, Comic Store York on the other hand, got some serious Warhammer going on. It would be fun to do some kind of regional tournie, but I'm not really into Warhammer. I think I know a few Warhammer players in Lancaster too, tried to get them in CAV, but they are not interested. I kind of feel bad for Joe cause he has one of those Aurora dropships for Poke Mech, and cant move it. CAV at this point, is just played at my house, where its convenient for everybody I know will play on the sort of regular. Otherwise the Comic Store in Lancaster is either cards or clicks. not my thing. I did polish up a Battletech collection for sentimental value, I got some stuff I've been meaning to send off too, but I keep procrastinating. I think Comic Store York would be a good halfway point for the both of us, I figure if people see these games being played on the norm, it might spark some interest. I'll check in with the guys next time I get there, and we can do a few demos together if your interested. I'm not in BL anymore, but it doesn't mean I can't help you out.
  17. Well Erion. you being an hour away, I'll be your Heavy Gear opponent, but we still got to get together for a CAV throwdown sometime. I ran out of local competition a while ago, bro, and would like to get into a few more Warmaster competitions myself. I get your newsletter, still waiting.....

    Ok Mech-heads!!

I'm pretty sure I sent them to you, Blitz and Ghost as an AutoCAD file. either way, I still don't have much time to build it myself, but when somebody does, I need to know a few things so I can make revisions on the other buildings if they need it. One, are the bays themself high enough to fit one of the new Rhinos, and two, are they wide enough to fit the Ogres. I'm pretty sure about the Ogres, but I don't have any of the new Rhinos, so I need somebody elses opinion. I remember Ghost telling me to try a mecha bay variant without the office attachment, and I might actually rework the whole Fort Wolf layout to use those smaller buildings. the wall decals are out of my league, so any help would be appreciated.
  19. OK, yeah. I like this alot. now I have a list already assembled and it shouldn't break my pockets too bad. My wife isn't interested, but maybe if she saw the models, I could convince her to pick up a little something something. I assumed GP stood for general purpose so I figured the Strike Cadre would probably be the next "tier" up. Once the models actually come in, I'll get some sit down time with them and get a better feel of how they would operate. Maybe then I could weigh in on the infantry a little better then. I figure if I have mechanized infantry protecting the armor, then maybe a platoon of infantry later on could be added. just want to cover the basics at this stage. 20 COOL POINTS. Serpentine Fire is an old "Earth, Wind and Fire" jam from back in the day. now for unit colors, I would like urban combat grey, black and white camo. that would be pretty slick.
  20. apparently the Mecha are deployed in teams or "cadre" of 5 units; correct? OK, this opens the door for another train of thought, assuming then a Gear functions more like a grunt in respects to a strider. If so, this is cool. fire team wedge, here I come! For paratroopers, one Jager (as a command or point) and 4 iguanas. they'll also serve as Recon or shock troopers. both Strike Cadres could work as a heavy offensive squad, with the striders covering their movements. 2 Long fang, one regular Naga. the Armor/ infantry taskforce could almost work independant of the rest of the unit, but in a serious scrap, they'll reinforce the striders. If they seem to come up short, I'll add some more "escoudes" (i think thats right) I'm going to go old school with this and calling them "Serpentine Fire". cool points to anybody who can guess where that comes from?
  21. OK, I guess I got to get a feel for this. I can see my paratroopers serving as recon. Overwhelming firepower, hehehe just happens to by my way of things, I just like to distribute it evenly among all of my troops so I can stay in the mix longer. not have to rely on anything specific to build my strategy around. The Nagas, is there any way to make them the heavy support? I can double up the infantry to provide better support for my armor, that would work for me. Only thing is, I like my armor units with 4 tanks, so unless thats not allowed, I'll do that. I saw the Northern Mammoth and shuddered. Now for a name for this unit

    Ok Mech-heads!!

hey, since I know the need is there, I still have those other templates to work out. I'll get that to you ASAP. what we're doing for the UTDF War College is sort of simular, I'll send you the course curriculum, and it'll tell you the kind of "ranges" needed that'll help you demo a specific thing about CAV until you work up to a full KTR thing. Its a fever circuit with targets (two topics covered here), shooting range in the center, a pit with for a game of "chain in the incoming" and a basic terrain set up for the KTR. BUUUUUUT, heres one, I think is pretty interesting for a different experience. why not take it underground! build a labyrinth or something and take some notes on positions and such. It'll be you against the players, so mark unidentified units with a blank base until a player confirms what the unit is. (helps them learn the various units in game.)

Fair enough. then we'll start the campaign back up next week when we have some solid test data, unless you want to incorporate the test into the campaign, your call. either way is OK with me. we like to do our tests by putting a unit in two extreme situations; one would be its most ideal situation and the other the worst scenario. for an ideal situation, what I think what I'll do is set up half of a 4'x8' table with lots of "abrupt terrain" stuff that I can utilize vertical climb and bottleneck any advance. in that half, I'll deploy a 1500 point section which would include one of each SOC variant. depending on what the other 1500 points would consist of, I would equip their rifles to meet the situation. For a worst scenario, I think being out in the open with a full section of superiority CAVs may do it. feel free to do what you wish, just let me know how they work for you.

OK, red all the data is complete and I think we're ready for a test drive. look over the data cards and give a holler. I think the costs are fair enough for the uniqness of the model, if not let me know.
  25. So HG is pretty sweet in urban settings, huh? I like this One thing I want to get out of, is making comparisons against the CAV system. especially the fluff; I am willing to bet Reaper is well aware of the "problem" and have made an effort to "fix" this "problem", but realistically, its not something thats going to happen overnight. Me, the fluffmeister am perfectly content with this, besides, I enjoy writing my own. Now back to HG, 1 Paratrooper unit (5 paratroopers) I would have to buy the models individually, any suggestions? Strike Cadre X2 Naga (3 striders) 3 tanks 1 Caiman APC Infantry OK, just looking at their characteristics, this seems like a fair blend of equipment, any suggestions?
