  1. Thanks, guys. @Glamberry Mostly what I did for the glow effect here is a lot of glazing with a fluorescent magenta. On top of darker colors where it didn't show up as well, I first over-highlighted the area a bit, then glazed the magenta on.
  2. Here is another figure I recently finished. I actually started her more than a year ago, and then for some reason I didn't finish her. I actually had no idea I didn't finish this figure until I was unpacking her from our move a few weeks ago and glanced at the back of her... so I found a spare few minutes and finished her up. Her base is very simple, mostly because I just felt like as she is, and especially since she is another gaming figure, she really didn't need much more. I may rethink that down the line, but for now I'm happy with it.
  3. Hi guys! Here is the latest Reaper figure I've finished. Karzoug, Runelord of Greed. It's meant to be a high quality gaming figure, so I got to have some fun with it, but I still had to limit how much time I put in.
  4. Thanks for the compliments and feedback, everyone. @Boddynock She is from Guild of Harmony.
  5. So it looks like I may finally be able to attend ReaperCon. I was going to last year, then we were building a house and the timing would have been difficult at best, so I didn't make it. We didn't end up building our house last year, because Life. Now, barring more Life, we will be building this year instead, but I should still be able to go....! Now to figure out my entries...
  6. Here's another gaming standard model I just finished. It was a really fast paint job with colors that were already on my palette for another project. This model has been sitting on my desk staring at me for almost 3 years, and I finally decided to paint her. Originally I bought her because I love the sculpt, but after I primed her I was a bit intimidated to paint her. I had only been painting a little over a year at that point, so I found a lot of things intimidating. Even though I ended up giving her only a quick paint job, I'm happy with how she turned out. I took this opportunity to try to learn how to paint a see through object on top of another object (the bottle on her side). I think that still needs work. From some angles I think it looks basically right, but from behind it looks odd.
  7. Oh thank you. That really is how it ended up. I just went with what I wanted it to look like.
  8. Thanks for the compliments, guys. Especially about her face...it was tough. Her eyes, nose, and lips were barely there, super tiny, and her face is overall just a big flat rectangle. I had to shade some shape into it with purple and orange glazes to define the volumes that ought to be there, and paint outside the lines for her to have any facial features.
  9. She is 28mm scale. For the fishnets - First I glazed the whole area with super thin black paint like she was wearing typical black hose, then I used a super sharp-tipped brush with thinned black paint, and painted super fast little lines in one direction all the way around her leg. Then I went back and repeated with lines perpendicular to the first set. The lines didn't need to connect around, they just needed to be very consistent.
  10. Thanks. Yes, I sculpted them and added them on. I also sculpted the roses and berries in her hair. The beads in her hair are 0.5mm seed beads.
  11. Here is a recent gaming commission that I thought was particularly fun. I was really intimidated to do the fishnets! -Melissa
  12. I've been gone from the forums for a while...but I need to start posting my stuff again! So here is the first non-commission figure of 2017. It's 19th Century Style Girl by Romain Van Den Bogaert. I went through 4 or 5 different ideas for her before anything stuck, and this one was just an accident, really. I was going to sculpt the top of a dress for her, then she was going to be a woods fairy, then she was going to have a flower wreath in her hair (which required me to learn to sculpt flowers!), then it was beads and a few flowers...but her face just looked so sad to me, even without paint. I'd love to know what you all think! <3 Melissa
  13. Here is a new gaming standard commission I just finished. She was a lot of fun, especially painting that tiny smirk! I hope you all like her. Photos linked due chain mail thong, as I have no idea if forum rules would call that nudity or not... https://mgmpainting.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/mgm-painting-realer-03548-twyla-hellborn-warrior-4-18-16a.jpg https://mgmpainting.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/mgm-painting-realer-03548-twyla-hellborn-warrior-4-18-16b.jpg https://mgmpainting.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/mgm-painting-realer-03548-twyla-hellborn-warrior-4-18-16c.jpg https://mgmpainting.files.wordpress.com/2016/04/mgm-painting-realer-03548-twyla-hellborn-warrior-4-18-16d.jpg
  14. Does anyone have any idea when registration for ReaperCon this year will be?
  15. Army painting...I don't do it often. Painting tabletop. Most wargaming. I was briefly interested in Warhammer Fantasy 2 years ago, but that got boring. I tried to start Warmahordes (and I would probably play small games if anyone I know wanted to...maybe), but mostly don't play. I tried to start Malifaux, but wasn't driven enough to actually play it. It turns out I'd rather spend time painting than playing. I'm not particularly interested in futuristic sci-fi minis or conversions, either.
  16. Two (somewhat) recently have been very nice. 1. Raffaele Picca told me I was a very talented painter at NOVA last year when he was looking at one of my models that I had just gotten Gold in Fantasy Large with, and he found out I had been painting a little over 2 years at that point. I feel like I'm still stumbling around, and don't know enough when I paint, but that compliment was crazy awesome. 2. Random guy in the grocery store the other day stopped dead and said he loved my hair and said it was absolutely fantastic. I think it was maybe the drama of his reaction, but it stuck with me. I have pink hair, and I get compliments and comments on it all the time. Mostly from women, and mostly to the tune of "I love your hair, I'm not brave enough to do that though."
  17. Honestly, although I find stories about it as funny as anyone else does...I can't really justify treating another person poorly just because they are doing their job. It's a job. I imagine it's also a pretty difficult job to deal with, requiring a very thick skin.
  18. Actually the same type of thing happens to me all the time. I end up totally lost because of it...and it's the worst on the phone. My husband thinks I just don't want to talk to people when I don't answer the phone, but it's really that I probably won't be able to have a useful conversation unless I know the person really well, and it's a lot of stress. And then there are the times that I can't hear because it's too bright, or too much happening at once...or I can't see because it's too loud...
  19. Cell phone - yes. Phone line - no. I haven't had a land line phone since I moved out of my parents' house over a decade ago. At this point, a land line would serve no purpose for me.
  20. Walking can be good. I do like Beach Body type workout programs like P90X also.
  21. I'm typically a yoga pants, flip-flops, and t-shirt kind of person...but I do enjoy the occasional reason for nicer attire. =) I don't particularly enjoy weddings and such, but a formal dinner could be nice. When I do dress up, I prefer skirts or dresses and heels....even though I'm 6' tall. Already taller than most people, might as well be a giant in pretty shoes. =)
