  1. I have similar feelings about this one. It seems like you would need a ton of village bits to make good start, especially since the major pledge packages are split 50/50 between styles. I am currently sitting on a village pledge, but I have been increasingly thinking that the best moves are to either bump upwards to get some add-on building and sewer parts, or to drop out and wait for retail. The best bet is always to go with the base pledge to get the stretch goals... then, if finances are not there, wait for retail to get the add-ons which historically for KS 1 & 2 have seen reasonable increases when they got to retail. ... btw, can someone tell me the desire behind wanting a large proper city, but of all the same style?... I have a pretty good imagination but I'm having a hard time imagining where someone would choose all of one style or all of the other over mixed for a "proper" looking town. I've driven through many towns and never see all of the same looking houses so how can that be 'normal looking' to someone? I'm afraid I don't really follow your economic reasoning on pledge selection. I agree that retail pricing has been pretty reasonable, but the chief price break through Kickstarter has been through maximizing the free stretch-goal add-ons that come with core sets. Most (or all) of the paid add-on sets will be available at retail at, as you say, only slightly higher prices than the KS versions. As for one style vs two, I would fully agree with you that more variety is better if I were expecting to kick in for a large set, like "Capital City", or, especially, "Empire". I could then build a decent-sized layout with varied buildings for great effect. The problem is that I am looking at a smaller pledge, like "Hamlet" or "Village". At those levels, I am much more likely to build a single mid-sized building, or a single-level roofless layout for an RPG session. With only one structure, splitting the styles in half simply means that I need to buy twice as much to get to the same scale. The obvious up-side being that, having done that, I can build two structures, rather than one. Does that make sense to anyone? Building with a small set and having all the same pieces makes sense to me... it's those who want to build big and still want all the same pieces.

  3. Thanks, everyone for providing your experiences and input. I'm going to attempt to glue and clamp and then probably have a bit of fun with some fluorescent washes.
  4. Has anyone tackled the gelatinous cube?... I've dry-fitted it, and it has some interestingly soft, round edges where the two halves meet... which you can't obviously fill. It doesn't look that bad, but the bottom insert doesn't seem to make the best fit on the one I tried (I bought two sets). Anyways, I was curious if others have tried tackling this one yet and had any success with it.
