  1. we've thought about Hirst arts, but I don't like how fragile they are. And how expensive. And the work that goes into making them. And then trying to store these expensive fragile things XD it just doesn't fit in with how we store our gaming items and how we play our games. Something more durable and lighter and cheaper would be useful to us. But i can understand how those who have the means and walls already wouldn't be as excited about Bones walls Hey I'm one of those Hirst Arts crazy GMs :-) I know Hirstarts is not for everyone, but fragility and price realy isn't a problem especially for 3d dungeon setups. 1-2 Molds are enoug for basic layouts and if you compare that to the prices of premade terrain pices.... Concerning the "fragile" plaster, just use a good dental plaster (there are cheaper alternatives then excalibur, merlinsmagic) and coat the tile with a good varnish and you'll be fine. I even base a lot of minis on Hirst Arts tiles or other plaster bases from custom molds. To this day not a single tile has been damaged during a gaming session, including some accidental drops on the floor and very clumsy players :-)
  2. You can use the bristles from an old brush, bristles from a cheap nailbrush also work great and are already grouped together nicely ;-)
  3. Yeah mine had some brown and red spots but only a few and spread over different packs. But nothing a good wash and a coat of paint wont fix ;-)
  4. Just did a Video Inspection of my Bones via Skype (my sister who lives in the US was so awesome to get me the Bones as a christmas gift) After 90 minutes I'm very happy every mini is complete and accountet for ! :-) Now i just have to wait for my Bones to get shipped to Germany.....
  5. That is a Hirst Arts Floor Tile, so it is most likely dental plaster or some other hard plaster like excalibur etc
  6. Some of us don't have huge collections of that super expensive miniature retailer. I do have 6 guard-like guys I from one of their intro painting boxes. At least two are already chipped and I'm not an extremely uncareful person. Seems like throwing your resin mooks in a bag to go to a game is semi-risky. Also the cost of getting a lot more is undesirable for me. I never played empire or anything humanlike ( goblins all the way!!! ) You can usually pick a few of them up very cheap on ebay if you dont mind repainting them. But you are right GW is way to expensive thats why none of us play anymore...
  7. The USA is the only country i know with such a ridiculous education system! While in germany University isnt exactly free like in our scandivian neighbours, I'll have to pay like 300 Dollars per semester ( and about half of that is for my public transportation ticket). My older sister who has studied englisch/psychology and religion with all necassary qualifications to teach in germany, including a scholarship with teaching position (for englisch and german) at US univeristy is still required to make her Dr. in englisch before she is allowed to teach at a US highschool..... So everybody who is fed up with the us education system is more than welcome in europe ;-)
  8. I've thought about it a lot but just don't do enough mail order from the states. Or at least that's my excuse and it seems weak at times. Every year or two I do a big order that would probably have paid for the $50 post office box. I'm thinking like araziel on this too. I fell into "woman at a sale" mode for these. So many, so cheap, gotta buy an extra couple hundreds of dollars worth because I'm saving money. Don't regret it though. The important difference is, that extra bones are a lot easier to sell on ebay etc , (even after a year or so in a box in the basement) than the usual "woman at a sale" items like shoes makeup etc ^^
  9. Are the townguards realy so popular ? i always figured that standard humans like this are already available in abundance, I always use some old warhammer fantasys empire or elves for those roles... I will pick up the gelatinous cube of course, and i'm currently running a module with an avatar of orcus as the bbeg so i'll need him as soon as they hit retail :-)
  10. Anyone else wants to see ReaperBryan battle it out in a snowball fight ? :-D
  11. A lot of us Canadians who live near the American border have services somewhat similar to that. There are companies who specialize in receiving packages on the American side of the border (free shipping) and store them for a small fee until Canadians cross the border to get them. It's a bit of paperwork, and most of the time you'll still pay for GST/HST at the border, and fuel costs, but depending on the items, it may come up to be far cheaper. I'm now realizing that this would've been one of those times. A lot of us Canadians who live near the American border have services somewhat similar to that. In my case the "service" is my sister :-) So no fees and no paperwork :-) The original plan was that she would bring them to germany over christmas while she was visiting, but of course that turned out to be to optimistic ^^
  12. Hearing all those horror stories about high duties and VAT charges make me realy happy that i have relatives in the us who were kind enough to act as a proxy for me :-) I'll have to wait longer then the rest of you, but by breaking up the awesome bones shipment into smaler packages and sending them from privat person to privat person I'll won't have to pay those exorbitant fees :-)
  13. to complicate things you'll need to factor in the ones that just locked their pledge in, at the start of each day there are a number of shipments from earlier waves, but i just dont know how many exactly... on a happier note, i just got the email with my tracking info :-)
  14. You will just have to explain to them how miniature painting works ! The more unpainted minis you have the more likely you are to find one that motivates you enough to paint right now. So a large stockpile of unpainted minis is essential to this hobby ! ;-)
