  1. Personally, I think the future of the Black Lightning group will be directly tied to whether or not they can fill the opening for a webmaster. This is just me, as I am not a Reaper employee, but the Black Lightning system is based on rewarding people for their efforts and for the new customer return. But, as a long time BL, I agreed 150% on taking it down since there was no real way to track either of those based on what was required under that previous version. It was way too easy for anyone to lie, cheat, and claim anything they wanted to just about and get tons of free stuff for doing so. This is not a finger point so i dont need to see 15 posts rebuttling me on whether or not you cheated.. I am just saying that the prior system in place was too susceptible to it since all it required was for you to do was toss in a name and email address and guess their age. Anyone could make up 100 different yahoos, hotmails, gmails, etc.. and no one would know the difference.

In my opinion, if I were to build a new system it would be something like:

The new system needs to be built around the end customer doing the reporting, not the BL. The BL gives the demo, hosts the PaT, etc... gives the customer the reaper "referral" website address, telling them that if they go to the site and register (and listing the BL as their referrer) then Reaper will SNAILMAIL them a code that can be used online to get free stuff. When they hit the submit button it will populate the database with their info, but it will flag both Reaper and also the BL so that the BL can attest to what they did and add any relevant info to the ticket. Then the BL will submit it and Reaper collects all of the data and then sends out the rewards. But, nothing to either without a mailing address and a way to validate the event.

Could possibly even tie the BL's reward to the customer's reward code so that the BL doesnt get points until the customer redeems their code.

Then there would also be a place in that registration website where that same end customer can login and tell about additional events, demos, etc.. that they participate in, and again can list the BL responsible if they so choose. And again, by including the BL, it gets flagged to require the BL to sign off on it so to speak.

Then the system can be built to include more items from there, more promotions, more in depth areas.. but that would be the basis for me.

Would that system be perfect? No. Could people still cheat? yes. But, this is just the base idea that could be grown upon. it makes it much tougher since it would require mailing addresses, and all rewards would be snail mailed to those addresses. The database would need to include some form of address validation checks and/or duplicate, fraudulent, redundent, escalating, etc... checks.

I could see that system eventually being tied to a system for the gamers whereby they can input battle reports and such and re-introduce the old battle map, but in a more robust way where players games affected the outcomes, the ownersihps, the faction banners flying on the map, etc... win prizes direct from Reaper for the local tourneys, etc.. But, that would be a later add on item, not a startup item...

But, in the end, none of that could happen if they dont have a website and database person to get it created. Kit is awesome, but he has said himself he hasnt had the time to even think about adding that kind of stuff to the current site cause the current site takes so much already as it is....

    Thats just my $0.02

  2. I placed an order thru my local store almost 3 weeks ago when the bones first were announced. My store told me yesterday that their distributors say that Reaper has still not released the bones to distributors. Its all good as I dont mind waiting a little, but was a little surprised by that.

  3. You left off one of your kulgurks from your list. and the armor of courage off my Chhaya.

You forgot to mention that although my Chhaya troop did 3 points of damage (after DR2) to the Herald, he killed and life seized two of those points back.. Then turn 4, the dragon turtle charged the herald and in an epic swing away both killed each other but again the herald made the successful life seize against the dragonturtle after it failed its tough check by 1. just as much as my successful casting of the iron skin on my broodmaster drove you crazy, so did the herald's continuous success at the life seize after it took me so much effort to kill him. He affectively finished off the broodmaster, killed the dragon turtle, 2 spear guys, 2 crimorian warriors, and a spitter by himself.

we both had several epic lucky rolls. your pinner getting the hit on my broodmaster (even though i made the tough roll after)... my spitter getting the hit with poison on both your worm and your grub... the fact that my krung was able to trample 5 gnomes while on his last track and they all whiffed on their defensive swings... my broodmaster making 3 tough rolls in one activation (magic, ranged, and melee)... and always have to love the Herald's built in "always get the last laugh..." Warlord ability. I am just glad that you had run him away from my other troop when you did, otherwise he probably would have blown up the rest of my models.

After the damage you dished on me the first turn, I was sure that I was toast. But, just another awesome example of why we always play our games out to the end.

  4. very cool paint scheme. Fits them well! and love the idea of the skin on the shields.

Only thought is, and it may just be the pic, but the white teeth look extra white considering the darkness of the rest of the piece. You might consider having more shaded teeth.

  5. Forgive me, I don't know what PT stands for. But, summoning is a special ability not a spell, other than a couple of very specific ones like the spell in the Death tome of Summon Spectral Minions.

In the case of any model with the "Summoned" special ability, it simply means that this model does not have to be deployed at the beginning of the game. You can instead elect to wait and have it enter the game at a later time by being summoned by the model type listed by the Special Ability. For the Sisterhood Angel of Vengeance, it is Summoned (Spellcaster). So, you would need to have a spellcaster inyour army list and it would have to use an action to summon the model. No roll is necessary. If the enemy killed your spellcaster before you summoned the Angel, and you have no moer spellcasters, then shame on you for not summoning earlier and the Angel would be stuck out of the game.

  6. Steve and I agreed that each battle of this little story would involve new lists, with the exception that I would involve the Broodmaster each time after he was provoked in the initial battle. I told Steve that since I was going to be invading his "subterranean home" with this battle he could set up the terrain and tunnels anyway he saw fit, as well as establish the deployment zones as it was his home. I admit I was fully expecting for him to have me entering in from the middle of the table and be surrounded on all sides having to turtle up against his hordes of minions, but Steve actually kept it fairly normal with standard deployment caverns at each end with lots of windy tunnels in between.

We also established before the set up that any of his burrowed models could indeed attack from burrowed as long as they came out of the wall enough to base me up. Again I expected to have more worms ramming me from all directions but that did not happen.

Lastly, we said that since the battle was taking place in the caverns that any flying model was relegated to hover instead, thinking that this would be fair.

Steve's list for me is a little off, but not by much:

    Reptus - 998 points

    Troop 1

    Broodmaster, Dragon Rider

    Troll Hide

    Pakpao, Clutchling Caster

    Couatl x 3

    Troop 2

    Somchai

    T'Kay, Reptus Cleric

    Gaan-Hor Warrior x 5

    Troop 3

    Chhaya

    Gaan-Hor Warrior x 5

    Troop 4

    Chhaya

    Gaan-Hor Warrior x 4

    Troop 5

    Chhaya

    Gaan-Hor Warrior x 4

Obviously, the theme of the group is using first strike against the 1 track gnomes. With the Gaan-hor's low DV and the fact that the gnomes can horde it up pretty good, I wasn't sure how it would fair for me. I knew the first strike would help with about half his gnomes but I figured to get swarmed and really negate the first strike a lot. It turned out that I just chose a good time to try that theme out as he did not horde it up as much as usual, going with the totem instead. I thought Steve's list was an excellent list for anything that was not first strike heavy like mine. With his Battle totem and spiked, he was hitting everything when he got a swing. Just fortunately for me, his DV was as low as mine.

What really won the battle for me was the hovering. I was able to send enough stuff to negate his totem for a majority of the game.

That and Steve put both of his casters in the same troop. I didnt have to worry about back to back spells.

In the end, it was a great back and forth game thru the midway point of turn 3. Steve actually won initiative quite a bit on turn 3. I survived his charges with his lowly soldiers doing quite a bit of damage on the Broodmaster and then on my activations I got a lot of really cripplinging hits in to end turn 3. At that point he had to choose whether to attack my soldiers or do the suicide swarm of the broodmaster. He chose the broodmaster and then his fearsome and nauseating rolls failed him. He only got about half the guys in that he had intended to charge in. We traded a bit more and then we called the game as I had him down to 1.

Next game will see the Broodmaster leading his skullbreakers into the royal chamber of the gnomes....

  7. Gus and I built the one in the playtest section and then he moved it over to the Reapergames site. I have continued to tweak the one on the playtest site since after all that is my site. But I dont have access to the Reapergames one. I will see if Gus (or probably more likely Kit) will allow me to have access to it and see if I can at least get it to where my site's version is. and then see if I can implement some of Jeff's requests too.

Obviously, there are a ton more features that I would love to implement, just haven't had the time and I admit I am not as strong in some of this as Gus is. He is the better builder, I am more of a tweaker. But hey, it would give me the excuse to learn more too...

  8. Well, I would have told you to check out that Briangles on the metal version of the same model (02747) but it seems that it does not have them.

I have one but am not at home to be able to look at it or take a pic. But from memory, overall, I can say that it is large enough that it probably wont go on a 20 mm. It might fit a 25 mm corner to corner.

  9. They just posted the new BONES series plastics. With the gnoll in there (granted its not the Reaver but that is where the PRoxy rules and the ability to more easily modeify plastic minis come into play) it made me want to make a list that was gnoll heavy. So, here is what I came up with:

    Kargir - 996 points

    Troop 1

    Toghra the Despoiler

    Familiar

    Venomspite, Gnoll Sniper

    Gnoll Reaver x 5

    Gnoll Raider x 3

    Goblin Sticker x 3

    Troop 2

    Yenkrak Boneflail

    Familiar

    Venomspite, Gnoll Sniper

    Gnoll Reaver x 3

    Goblin Sticker x 3

    Troop 3

    Yenkrak Boneflail

    Venomspite, Gnoll Sniper

    Gnoll Reaver x 3

    Goblin Sticker x 3

    ---------------------------------------------

    3 troops +1 spy +1 tactician

    31 models (58 DTs, 43 MAs)

This list does not have any real big hitter model that would make a good exploding / resurrecting target. But, still looks like it would be fun with all of the vampire running around.

And the three VenomSpites would definitely add to the fun.

  10. Like I said, I love the idea... and am very interested. The only question for me is whether the future releases will still be "old" sculpts relative to the metal counterparts. That was the biggest hit on the LE line for me. That is, every mini in the LE line were minis that were already available in metal for more than a year at the time they came out in LE.

  11. Well, here is my conundrum.....

I love the fact that these are coming out! I love the fact that I hear "we have an ambitious roadmap"!

I just hope that it does not fall into the same trap as LE did. That of only releasing models that have already been available in metal for a long time.

But, I don't want Reaper to think that there is not interest just cause I cant see myself buying any from this particular grouping (I already have a bunch of each due to LE). I very much am interested and would buy just about anything that is in the Warlord game and is NEW.

  12. I agree with that philosophy most of the time, especially when facing Damage reduction models. In fact I had started out the list that way. But, I went this way this time for one main reason:

The Smite spell doesnt help ranged attacks and my build maximizes the number of people that get to take advantage of smite.

  13. Mercs - 998 points

    Troop 1

    Deckard Nightveil, Death Priest

    Mika, Samurai Heroine

    Assassin's Blade

    Okuran x 3

    Mercenary Spearman x 2

    Troop 2

    Deckard Nightveil, Death Priest

    Mika, Samurai Heroine

    Assassin's Blade

    Okuran x 3

    Mercenary Spearman x 2

    Troop 3

    Deckard Nightveil, Death Priest

    Mika, Samurai Heroine

    Assassin's Blade

    Okuran x 3

    Mercenary Spearman x 2

    Troop 4

    Artemis

    Magic Ranged Weapon

    Mercenary Crossbowman x 6

    ---------------------------------------------

    4 troops + 3 spies

    28 models (75 DTs, 46 MAs)

This list revolves around the triple samurai wielding their assassin blades on offense and having a parried DV 14 on defense. Deckard helps everyone out with his smite spells.

The crossbows find good shooting lanes and just start focused plinking.

The spears are there to both provide support and also roadblocks to help keep the samurai from getting completely mobbed.

And who can forget the Okuran with their cleaving....

  14. Here is a list that is centered around one of the faction doctrines to turn an elite into a soldier to get a bunch of tough /3 soldiers out there.

    Kargir - 998 points

    Troop 1

    Kavorgh

    Helm of the Tundra Beast

    Onslaught Bracers

    Warbringer x 9

    Goblin Sticker x 4

    Troop 2

    Hrodash the Painmaster

    Warbringer x 2

    Goblin Sticker x 4

    Troop 3

    Hrodash the Painmaster

    Warbringer x 2

    Goblin Sticker x 4

    ----------------------------------

    3 troops +1 tactician

    28 models (63 DTs, 47 MAs)

Again fairly straight forward list. Warbringers use their provoke to try and keep the defensive swings on them. Then use their tough/3 to stay alive.

Gobbies pair up to give support bonuses to themselves and other models.

Hordrashes use their disable to limit the enemies ability to damage the arbringers that provoked.

    KAvorgh just gets filthy around.

And 16 out of the 28 models have a pretty good tough value.

  15. This one has nothing to do with your piece specifically, but overall I noticed that like 60% of the entries for round 1 seemed to be people with chainsaws... at least yours was one of the few that were incorporated into a scene. Although you didnt give any close ups of your zombie.

As far as critiques go, I have done the IP before so I know how tough it can be to get stuff done in the time alotted. And I know your level of painting. So, I know you will not be too offended when I say that this was not up to your normal level that I have seen.

Overall, the thing I noticed is that my eyes are continually drawn away from your models and to the building.

I think you will make it thru to round two past the scrubs in your group, but you will need to step it up when you get there.

  16. The main difference between the Reven and Kargir is that the Reven had the highest model choice count of all the factions with 44 models. Kargir, while having one of the highest counts from the Savage North, they still only have 26 models. So, many of the people that are used to having a high number of choices with the gobbies, just dont have as many with the frozen gobbies.

And their doctrines don't immediately jump out at you like some of the other factions.

Just like with the Reven, their main weakness is against archery. While their non soldiers as a whole have the second highest average DV in the game (second to Kragmarr), their soldiers have the 5th lowest average in the game.

Lastly, they are a horde army by nature. Yes, you can build smaller groups, but overall they tend to be a horde army. And even withthe original Reven, people seem to love the idea of the horde army, but they dont seem to want to get all of the models necessary to actually field it on the table.

So, those items combined is probably why we have not seen as much from them, cause it does take a little more planning with their builds. But, having said that, when I have played them, they have been very affective for me (except the one time I played them against the Tembrithil machine gunners).
