    Google Hangouts Chatter thread

Anyone feel like joining me as I actually manage to paint some stuff this evening?

    Shh! You don't see me!
  3. Current link: https://hangouts.google.com/call/01uvpATfjyv_BtIQtxSxAAEE (Updated 1/24/18, OneBoot) If you are on an Android phone and get redirected to the Hangout app in the Google Play store instead of to the actual hangout, do the following to fix it: 1) Tap the hangout link, which will open the Google play store (for some reason) 2) Tap the three dots icon in the top right corner of the screen 3) Tap "Desktop site" 4) Ta-da! The hangout will open up in a browser window so you can actually use it. Chatter / "I'm here" thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69075-google-hangouts-chatter-thread/ Discord server: There is now an unofficial Reaper forum Discord server, called Major Mini Shenanigans. Link: https://discord.gg/QH5Fdq2 Rules for the thread: Posts in this thread should be only to share a link to a Hangout (or similar online chat option) No off-topic chatter! We have a randomness thread for that. To answer a few questions: Are these hangouts sponsored by Reaper? Reaper doesn't support or sponsor these hangouts! They're entirely set up and run by forumites on an informal basis. What is a Google Hangout? And how do I set one up? https://hangouts.google.com/ Short answer: They're a group video/audio/text chat option, available for free. See the link for more information. Basically, Skype through a Google link. Can do voice and/or video. Works just fine on a smart phone or computer, platform independent." What is Discord? https://discordapp.com/ It is very similar to Google Hangouts, except that there is also a chat room function. The unofficial Reaper forum Discord server is called Major Mini Shenanigans, and has several different chat rooms. It can be downloaded to either a computer or a smartphone/tablet; again, similar to Google Hangouts. Why would I want to join a hangout? Mostly just to be social Gives you a chance to chat with people while painting Also gives you a chance to ask for immediate feedback as you're working (if you have a decent webcam or camera phone) Some of us have found it really helps motivate us to paint more Sounds great! What do I need? If you're looking to set one up, check the link above. To participate, all you need is a computer with a microphone and speakers. If you want to send out video (e.g. show off a mini you're working on) you'll need a webcam. Many external webcams seem to include microphones internally as well. You can also participate from a smartphone or tablet! On Android and iOS, there's a Hangouts app available. How do I join one of these? Go to your computer or smartphone or tablet or other device that has a microphone and/or camera, and click the link posted at the top. It should take you to either the Hangouts app or to a webpage; either way, you should be given the option to join the Hangout. Anything else I should know? Look for options to turn off your video feed (in case you don't want to send out a live stream of what you look like) and especially for the microphone mute button. That way, if you're having a conversation with someone in real life, or yelling at kittens that are trying to eat figures, or whatever else, you won't have everyone on the Hangout listening in. It's also courteous to the folks on the Hangout - it generally doesn't work to have more than one person talking at a time, and if you're flooding the Hangout with the sound of you yelling at your kitten, it means no-one else can ask for help with their color selection or whatever else they might need. Since Reaper doesn't endorse, sponsor, or otherwise support the hangouts, the Reaper Forum rules aren't necessarily applied. This may mean that you hear inappropriate language. If someone's painting a mini with impractical clothing, you may see bits that aren't normally allowed to be shown directly on the forum. Etc. We try to keep the atmosphere welcoming and friendly but it's possible people will slip, especially if they don't realise someone new has jumped in. Although forum rules aren't necessarily applied, it's probably wise to pretend that you're still on the forums for the most part - try to avoid swearing, try to avoid politics & religion, etc. The forums are incredibly friendly and welcoming, it'd be nice to keep the same atmosphere when we're on a hangout. NEWBIES ARE WELCOME. Don't be afraid to hop on and introduce yourself!

Randomness XV: 'tis a silly place.

No comment on how much blood I've shed on and because of miniatures...

Hi all! I should paint minis and stuff again, eh?

    Hell hounds from Bones 4

Getting into more Bones 4 goodies. (For once being in Canada is to my advantage when it comes to shipping!) Doing some frankly ridiculous hell hounds from the Fan Favourites expansion. Ridiculous because of the colours I've chosen, to be clear - the sculpts are delightful, if a little more explicitly male than I might have preferred... This first one is going to have a pink glow in all the cracks. The goal is to look sort of like lava only weird and magical. Not sure how well it's going to look but we'll find out! First step was to paint the poor beastie pink... Really only the cracks needed to be pink but there are so many cracks and I was so tired when I was doing this that I just slopped pink everywhere: Then tonight I started to go back and make the dark plates: Hopefully more tomorrow!

    Hell hounds from Bones 4

Ask and ye shall receive! ... Yeah, I'm slow, and I have very little time to paint. But at least it's progress. Going to be reducing the width of the pink cracks, especially on the face... Right now I'm focusing mostly on getting the shapes blocked in, but the colour is starting to hide the sculpt rather than enhance it... Still having fun though.

    Hell hounds from Bones 4

I think I found the one angle where that happens. It really is a lovely sculpt. Thank you! Oh yes! I'm having fun painting these. It definitely helps that I've given myself permission to fail - if they end up looking like garbage, oh well, it's still an interesting experiment. Takes a lot of the pressure off!
  9. I love that shroom shaman

I have a pepto-bismol-pink hell hound sitting on my desk right now. Just thought y'all would like to know.

    Isobael the Bard

Starting in on Bones 4 already! (It's impolite to ask how I'm doing on Bones 3.) And I had to start with Izzy, because Izzy. Just roughing in some colours, and sadly had only a couple minutes to paint tonight and part of that went to cleaning up some of the disaster from the last time the kids painted. Suggestions on colours for the rest of her would be greatly appreciated!

    Isobael the Bard

Calling her more or less done... There's a lot more I COULD do but I think if I push it I'll stop having fun, so I'm going to quit while I'm ahead and come back to her at some point to give her a real base.

    Isobael the Bard

Getting close to the limits of my skills, but I'm having fun in the meantime. She's a super fun figure to paint.

Outside of studio models... maybe? I think I win for first person to post about putting paint on a Bones 4 figure, anyway!

Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

Quick update... Decided to dig into the Fan Favourites expansion and pull out this lady. The one from the KS is on the left, the bonus mini from an order is on the right. The bonus mini from last month is much darker but otherwise it seems to be the same material, or at least very similar in terms of density and hardness. Gonna take some boiling to get the KS one to go together properly... Right now it's got ridiculous gaps. Actually, "going to need boiling" is definitely a theme so far in the minis I've examined...

Not assembled, but... Argent has a significantly smaller body but larger wings. The heads are similar sizes. And yeah, Argent is going to take some serious boiling to make him fit together. My order was 26 pounds.

Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

Yay! And y'know, it never occurred to me that this would let more Reaper peeps figure out who I am IRL. Not that I mind. It was just a consequence I'm normally way more aware of. Nope. I went in for the morning (a coworker was finally back after missing almost a week because his wife was rushed to the hospital and ended up having surgery, and I wanted to say hi and welcome him back) and then rushed home as soon as our daily pre-lunch meeting ended.

Hang out and paint - Discord and Google Hangouts

I found a way around it, kinda... I copied the link, opened a new browser window, checked the Desktop setting, THEN pasted the link. It kinda went wonky after that though because it wasn't letting me let the site use my camera and microphone and I had a heck of a time convincing my phone to let it.
  20. Ooh... Nice. Excellent use of spare parts! It really works for that guy.
  21. As always, a visit to your world is good for my soul. Admittedly my soul is a little warped and demented... But still. I love it all, of course, but for some reason the conversion on the Bones Black troll really stands out for me, and the leprechaun on the owl. The whole gang of mushrooms all gathered together is impressive as heck, and beautiful too. And worrying. But mostly beautiful. Hey! I resemble that remark! When you get carried away, EVERYONE wins. (Apologies for the continued absence, aftercare from surgery continues to eat the majority of my spare time.)

    Gnollblins

Calling these little maniacs done. Not the greatest paint job ever and I should probably have done something - anything - with the bases, but oh well. They were a ton of fun to paint. For those who hadn't seen the WIP thread, these guys are old Night Goblin bodies (sent to me by the ever-amazing @malefactus ) with heads from the Frostgrave plastic gnoll kit.
