Sorry for the delay. Work has kept me busy, and this is my first time creating a Mage character.
Suggestions definitely welcomed.

Jeff Mason studied martial arts as a kid for self-defence and fitness, and later became interested in the philosophy behind them. He wound up switching from history to philosophy as a grad student, although his main interest became more focused on relatively modern Western thinkers. He went on to begin his doctoral studies, but didn't get very far.
The Ice Age interrupted.
Almost immediately Jeff had to intervene to keep a store clerk from being killed for his supplies. Despite being unarmed, Jeff defeated three desperate criminals with uncanny ease.
Jeff was put in touch by his sensei with another teacher, one who could help explain what was going on. Jeff quickly agreed to join the Akashic Brotherhood, realizing he might need whatever he could learn in order to survive this cold new world.
He is caught between traditional Akashic philosophies and his more individualistic way of thinking - a conflict that has disturbed his thesis work. And of course, fewer people have time or money for school, and since he's only employable as a university teacher his standard of living has plunged.
Increasingly, Jeff feels caught in a rut. His normal life seems meaningless, and he isn't getting anywhere or accomplishing much of anything. Can he make more of a difference to the world as a mage, without being exposed as a 'psion?'
