  1. I searched the forum and tried to find an answer to my question(s) before posting but could not. I'm not sure what the accepted policy is on quoting the rules in the forums so if I've broken a rule please forgive me.

In the CAV:SO book page 57 bullet point 3 under Field Notes says that a Target Lock is required before a Guided Missile is fired or it will auto-miss - [paraphrased]

The CAV: Errata says to replace the third paragraph (by which I think they mean bullet point) with a paragraph that includes this line:

"The target-lock action can be used by a model to acquire an active “lock” on a target as part of a ranged assault that includes guided missiles (see Guided Missile, p. 112). ..."

Does making a ranged assault with a Guided Missile require 2 actions (1 for the Target Lock and 1 for the Ranged Assault)?

Does making a ranged assault with a Guided Missile require 1 action that includes the Target Lock and the Ranged Assault together?

    Something else I've missed.

  2. I spent 8+ hours painting with Ludo yesterday and bought him lunch. He worked on 10 different miniatures and a Gundam model as he is want to do.

He seemed to have a good day.

Thanks Ludo! See you Thursday for more painting.

It's been removed from the model list for CAV:SO. It was formerly available to all factions, with Malvernis having access to a superior version as the faction linked with the Hedgehog's manufacturer, Mark IV.

That's odd, there is still a card for it in the list of units I downloaded.

  4. I can't find which faction uses the Hedgehog transport in the list of faction vehicles I downloaded from the Talon Games site.

Can someone explain to me who can use it?

  5. I only see 54 models available for CAV on the Reaper Minis CAV page. A casual search of the internet shows most second hand sources offering the same set of miniatures.

I'd really like to paint a Grand Order of the Temple force but there don't seem to be enough minis available to make one.

Am I missing something? Is there a source for the other models? Perhaps for the older metal models..?

Per the current errata we have removed Bulky from consideration when determining squad size. It only counts for transportation purposes going forward. The current version of the software program has already been updated with this change. As a result you only have to have 4-6 actual models in the squad. So you could have 6 bulky models in one squad should you so choose.

I genuinely appreciate everyone's responses but especially those of CAVBOSS. There aren't many games where the staff directly answer my questions in a timely fashion. My apologies for not checking the errata - I forgot the game had one.

  7. I'm trying to understand how the Special Ability (SA) Bulky applies to vehicles.

I have a primary attack squad which I built using the CAV Force Manager that includes:

    • 1x Naginato [veh]
    • 3x Wolves [veh]
    • 1x Talon CAV.

All of the vehicles have the Bulky rule in the print out that the software makes.

The rules say that an attack squad must have between 4 and 6 Vehicle/CAV models in it and that SA: Bulky models count as 2 models for squad size.

    1. So my attack squad can include at maximum 3 Bulky vehicles and no other models?
    2. My Talon CAV (Recon) is bigger than my tanks but it is not Bulky...?
    3. The software appears to let me build an illegal attack squad. I have 4 SA: Bulky vehicles and a Recon CAV in it but I don't see any errors listed anywhere.

    What am I missing...?

    Thanks for your help!

  8. Sculpt a set of blocks/stones from pink foam and use it as the ground layer to raise the building to what ever height you like...?

Just cut 4 strips of foam to match the building dimensions. Score the surface of the foam to make it look like field stones fitted together, drybrush with multiple shades of grey, stipple in a little green to represent some moss and Bob's your uncle. :)

Edit: Didn't see Mad Jack's post where he already suggested this. Looking forward to seeing your finished work.

  9. Can I still buy metal figures from Reaper? They still had a bunch when I was there at ReaperCon last year. I grabbed a bunch but not knowing much about the game I missed some figures I'd like.

I'm not sure how many of the metal figures got translated to Bones. I generally don't like the Bones figures - though the Simba model is pretty good.

I ... Don't think that's what likely happened. if you type in 3000, what you get is 2700/300/600.

you probably spent the 2700, the spent the 300 flexible points

Club is 100% correct. The program gave me 2700/300/600 I was too inexperienced to realize what was going on.

    Thanks for everyon'e help!

  11. Thanks for the reply!

So, in a 3000 TVP game 3000 is a hard cap. The software allowed me to add another 300 points of units and I didn't see any error messages. I probably overlooked it.

I found the rules about 'Force Specialization' on page 42 and 128 - 141 (in case anyone else else finds this thread with a similar question).

I have not found the flexible spending part but I'm still looking.

  12. Building a force in the CAV Force Manager and there is a category called Flexible that allows me to spend more than the 3000 TVP my starter force is set to.

I can't find any mention of this in the CAV:SO book. Is this legal?

I see a similar category called Bonus which appears to be for buying upgrades. I don't see anything in force construction for this either...?

From a noob's perspective the game could use some examples of force construction in a 'stickied' post or 12. :)

  13. Updated my list with more models I've puzzled out. I hunted through old 'Casket Works' looking for the CAV's feet. I feel like mechanical podiatrist. :)

I have 4 lower torsos I couldn't find amongst several issues of Casket Works, the current Reaper CAV page, and the Talon Games Youtube channel.

Later this week I'll post some pictures in the hopes that the vets may have an idea what CAVs these are.

    Thanks in advance!

  14. Finally got some work done on this and I thought I'd start with the vehicles since I had fewer and they seemed easier to recognize.

I have a few questions if anyone has time to answer.

    • 75% of my primary squad is required to have the '...model task of attack..." (CAV:SO pg. 40). What tells me a model's primary task is 'attack'? Do I find this info on the 'data card'?
    • I have a model that looks like a 'Whisper Missile' but is slightly bigger with more fins. I can't find anything like it in the Casket Works nor the active Reaper CAV pages. I did see a post that mentioned the Whisper and the Ripper missile. I see a 'Ripper' missile in the data cards but have no idea what it looks like. Anyone know the story behind this model?

Thank for your help. I'm slowly pulling this together in the hopes of playing Ludo soon. :)

  15. All of these suggestions are great. I have two I'd like to add.

    1. Thin your paints. Thin them way more than you think you need to. Even 'Air Brush' paint needs to be thinned.
    2. Check out these Twitch Channels. The painters there are talented and they paint in real time. When they make a mistake they don't get to edit it out in 'Post Production'. Instead, they fix it right there in front of you. They are friendly and will respond to questions in chat with specific examples/answers.
    3. Slow Fuse Gaming
    4. Next Level Painting

Both of the streams are NSFW and somewhat 'monetized' but they are super helpful and very good painters and they will interact with you in real time.

They helped me a lot. I am not affiliated with them in any way except as a Patreon supporter.

Oh, I thought of one more. You appear to be from Austin Texas go to Reaper Con. The artist there are STUPID good and very helpful. Plus you're likely to meet Ken from Badger Airbrushes and he may know a thing or two about your Patriot. :)

  16. Can you interpret that pile of poo they call a highway near the hotel...? :)

The Bride and I came to an agreement last night and I'll be coming for the full ReaperCon Experience this year... but I'll be flying solo, so I'm either looking for a room to share or I will make a reservation before the weekend is over.  My allergies prefer non-smoking rooms and if I end up on my back, I can snore, so light sleepers beware.  I will have a vehicle as I'll be driving in and I plan to be at the dinners every evening, so if you are looking for transportation as well consider it part of the package (if you are considering a lot of things being carried, let me know and I can negotiate with my Bride for her City-Terrain-Vehicle instead of my Truck).  I'm also from Texas, so I can interpret local lingo if needed.
