  1. I wanted to do clear bases, so I probably won't use balsa wood, but that does remind me that I could use it for another mini-related project I needed to build something for... I actually already have some for wood carving.
  2. Thanks for the idea, but I think I want to use clear bases - coins, washes and cork would take away from the effect (and I could just buy regular bases for a little extra) and epoxy stickers are usually sticky on one side, domed and too flimsy if I remember correctly - they probably wouldn't be stable enough even if I could stick them to something transparent and connect the minis. I think I was able to find a supplier of just regular acrylic discs elsewhere - more expensive, but I can at least justify the cost.
  3. Thank you very much for the picture! It looks like the feet would probably fit on a 20mm base if needed. I did plan to remove the broccoli (?) base from them. From what I can tell, it looks like they will all fit in the box I was thinking about getting, and that they should fit on 20mm bases if I can't get my hands on 25mm. Thank you very much for posting those and digging through your collection, I really appreciate it, it helps that I got a visual.
  4. Not in Canada. Nothing will ship to Canada for under $12 shipping and anything close to what I need is selling for about $30 at least. :/ I've checked craft stores as well - nothing in an hour's driving distance that's not ridiculously overpriced. I'm not sure where you're looking, but I just searched EBay Canada for 1" clear plastic discs, and found a seller offering 100 for $10.02 Canadian, with &4.50 Canadian shipping . I found one that had that price, but it's actually $19 shipping to my location though, because I'm rural. :/ Or $8 + $11 s/h for the 7/8. Thanks for letting me know though, its still cheaper then most. You may be looking at a different listing, but its not showing up when I look. EDIT: I may have found a different listing that will work, I'll look into it. Still more then I wanted to spend, but at least its under $20 and 25mm.

  6. That's good to know. I don't aim to decorate them - I want to build up a set of PC minis that players can use if they don't have their own (I am a DM and usually host for new players), so I wanted to focus on bases that would work with indoor, outdoor, grassy, snow, dungeon, etc, etc, maps. I love the decorated bases, but I feel like they lose their appeal if you switch maps. Low-impact all the way. I hadn't really considered casting, but I think it would probably be pretty expensive. Resin here is fairly pricey (I have some for jewelry making) and it'd end up costing me about $20 per 15~ bases when I could get 50 20mm bases for $7. Thank you - I plan to buy more, but I thought those were pretty good starters. The $2 add-on is 10 20mm bases, with $5 for 25 and $7 for 50. Thanks for offering - out of curiosity, do you have any that look to be similar in size that you could measure (if it isn't too much trouble)? I don't think 20mm would work for most, I just need to buy some to start off with, for a lack of a better word. I'm somewhat broke at the moment.
  7. I am aware of their scale, its more the width that I'm wondering about. I didn't see the triangles before, thanks for pointing those out, that helps a bit. I can't really afford to. I want to use clear bases to work with my maps and the only cheap option I've got in Canada is 20mm, not 25mm. I know what people are recommending, but I'm wondering if the alternative would work (regardless of whether or not its what people prefer.)
  8. I've never bought miniatures before and I decided to go with Bones, as they fitted the most for what I had in mind. But I am having trouble trying to figure out how large the figures actually are. There's nowhere within a 5~ hour drive that sells them (75% of stores in the area don't sell minis at all - hello rural Canada) so I can't see them in person before I order online (I also don't know anyone who has any). I honestly don't get the 28mm scale - I get the size comparison thing, but then I see pictures where people are showing them to measure at 35mm or 40mm and none of the online stores have size measurements either. This comes into play for two reasons - I need to buy storage and bases, and it will be cheaper to do this at the same time I order the minis. So I've got two questions; How large of an area does the average PC / NPC mini take up? Would they fit in a 1.5~ inch square space? (The box I'm looking at has compartments that are 30mm tall, 47mm long and 41mm wide.) I am only looking to buy PC minis at the moment, so most are of the same size or smaller - I know the bigger, more dramatic ones would be larger. Would narrow stance PC / NPC minis fit on a 20mm round base? I want to use acrylic / clear bases, but the only size I can find for a reasonable price are 20mm. (They are a $2 add-on to mini order vs 25mm at 10 for $15 from the states or 25 for $70 from amazon) I really would appreciate if anyone is willing to bust out a ruler and show me some measurements. I've been looking all over, but I can't seem to find the exact answer to my questions. I can't really afford to order something that won't work. If it helps - I am going to order these first; http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/erick/price/77197 http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/arran%20rabin/price/77209 http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones/price/77068 http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones/price/77011 http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones/price/77167
