  1. Thanks for all the tips and help, I ended up getting these triads... Should be set for a long time. :) 09714: Dark Skin Tones 09715: Medium Skin Tone 09723: Rosy Skintones 09787: Bronzed Skin Triad 09731: Golden Skintones 09755: Dark Elf Skin Oh and I'll get others if I feel I'm missing something along the way, like 09716: Fair Skin Tones, 09792: Vampiric Skintones or 09750: Undead Skin Tones.
  2. Hi, been getting back into painting my minis and was wondering which paints I should get for flesh tones. Ease of use helps me paint more, which is good, so maybe some more triads? Or any tips how to use what I have currently as "triads"? My current "flesh/skin" paints: HD Suntan Flesh HD Caucasian Flesh HD Maiden Flesh HD Elfin Flesh HD Dwarven Flesh Ebony flesh 09440 Barbarian flesh 09443 Scholar Flesh 09444 Dusky Skin triad Looking at all these and trying to figure out how to make it all work: 09714: Dark Skin Tones 09715: Medium Skin Tone 09774: Olive Skintones 09723: Rosy Skintones 09787: Bronzed Skin Triad 09792: Vampiric Skintones 09750: Undead Skin Tones 09716: Fair Skin Tones 09755: Dark Elf Skin Thanks for any help or advice!!
  3. Thanks for the reply, helpful info. On this current mini I did it after and some of the dry brush flakes seemed to land on nearby areas. Some of them I was able to just wipe off with a clean brush but a few did stick. I touched up those areas to cover them up. I think next time I want to dry brush some armor with metallic paints I will probably try and do it first so that if the little flakes pop off and stick to the surrounding areas it's no big deal because I will just paint over them. As for 2 waters and cleaning brushes/having separate ones, yeah totally doing this now just in case. :)
  4. Sorry to necro this thread, one more question. I wanted to dry brush some chainmail with a metallic paint, but of course this will lead to little dried flakes all over. Any advice how to do this? Like do it first before all other painting or, is this pretty much something I should avoid, and use non-metallic metal colors for this? Thanks for any advice!
  5. Yep I bet it was a combo ... dry paint on the brush and using the same water. Lesson learned! I got some of it off using a larger dry brush. Luckily it's very subtle and actually looks ok in context but I wouldn't want it to happen again where it could be a real mess. Thanks for the info and advice.
  6. I was using Dwarven Gold reaper paint and I noticed I was getting some metallic micro gold flakes all over my mini. I assume that it dried on my brush too fast and kind dry brushed itself into the air. Any way to get it off? It's not super bad because it actually works as a subtle effect on some robes, but it's not something I'd like to have happen again. Thanks.
  7. I'll check those out... I realized I also have: MSP 9053: Honed Steel from the starter set. Also, from doing some homework I think i'm gonna give those Pigma Micron 05 ink pens a try.
  8. Couple more questions: 1) Paint pen - I have a mini with a scroll and I want to use the paint pen to "write" on some runes, any suggestions? How about these? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00161NK54/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER 2) I noticed I will only have 1 metallic color for armor and weapons: MSP 9054: Polished Silver. Any recommendations (MSP triads?) for a good few for armor and weapons. Thanks!
  9. Thanks for the advice, very helpful. I think I'll go for the HD sets to match up with my Starter set and see how it goes. Also, I know the hot/cold water trick from using all the D&D plastic prepaints...bent swords everywhere! :)
  10. Quite a few of us jumped back in with the Kickstarters. For paint sets, I found that the HD paint set #1, #2 and #3 give you the best bang for the buck, and they come with their own carrying case. Yeah the Conan set is kinda like getting a Bones KS.. a zillion minis!! So you think the 3 HD sets would be better than either of the 2 MSP sets? https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Paint%20Sets/sku-down/09952 or https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Paint%20Sets/sku-down/09951
  11. As for paints I'm pretty much starting from scratch again minus the Bones Starter set, so I need a big new set to get going. Yeah I could use some primer advice, I've been reading but though I'd ask directly. Especially since the bulk of my painting will be Bones (not needed) or boardgame plastic (new Conan KS boardgame). Thanks.
  12. I've painted off and on through the years, getting the bug again. Couple questions: 1) I need a new big set of paints. I got the Bones starter set. Hows the Master Set #1? Or is the Basic 54 paint version "enough"? 2) I'm going to be painting a lot of minis from the Conan boardgame, they are plastic. Any primer recommendations? Thanks!!!
