  1. BTDT. You want to take it as easy as possible for a few days. Trying to push too hard or too fast can have long term consequences. So stay as chill as possible. GEM
  2. The problem isn't the length of Reapercon but the time required to get there and back. If it was just me I could do the trip on the cheap, similar to being on the road as a long haul trucker. But mama needs certain amenities that I learned to do without every day, such as a bed in a hotel/motel etc. It adds up, quickly. Flying isn't an option because of my TBI [traumatic brain injury] and the residual problems I was "gifted" by the drunk driver that ended my working days. So, I'll save up for the Reapercon box after the Con and hopefully log some painting time in my new office/hobby area. GEM
  3. Whelp. It looks like attending ReaperCon isn't going to be feasible this year. Setting up the new house, along with moving expenses is going to soak up too much of our ready cash to make a 10 day or longer vacation trip realistic. I has a sad. Nick Anything is absolutely inconsolable. GEM
  4. You win today's Rube Goldberg Award for the interwebs and are now qualified for the next monthly competition. GEM
  5. Thanks. Found out who the "Keeper of The Keys"is and she will be in custody of our house-keys until we do the initial walkthrough. Unfortunately, with Cathy having a broken arm she isn't up to traveling until at least the middle of the month. GEM
  6. We have closed Escrow! Got an email an hour ago that our loan funded, and just received a confirmation call from our loan officer. Next question: "Where's our keys?" Now for the hard part, actually moving. GEM
  7. If you're in an unincorporated area the city has no jurisdiction. You need to be talking to the county level offices. You probably also need to applying to the state for a business license that will allow you to buy wholesale without paying sales tax on items you will be using for resale or as part of something used for resale. This also gives you an "account" where your sales in state [and via internet if that is the statute for your jurisdiction] get proper accounting for any sales tax you are required to remit. Something you may find useful is a trip to the stationary store to check out the Dome bookkeeping publications. When I was actively in business these pre-formatted accounting books were a big help in keeping track of everything that had to be accounted for come tax time. They will have things set up so that you can easily track items you didn't even know were going to be important when starting out. Good Luck. PM me if you have any questions. GEM
  8. Ever have one of those days where it feels like you got up in the wrong universe? GEM
  9. I just learned that this is National Grilled Cheese Month. I think I know what I will be preparing for lunch. GEM
  10. I can only imagine the jam up that this virus has caused for your agency. I've heard that filing season has been extended by a full month, to May 15th because of the problems being dealt with. Good Luck and know that some "good vibrations" as well as positive thoughts and prayers are being sent in your direction. As for the "office politics", just keep your head down and let the GS double digits worry about that. GEM
  11. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!!! Just received word from our Loan Officer that we are ready to close on our home loan. The docs will be in the hands of the Title Insurance Company first of the week. Happy Easter! Not just for us, but for all! GEM
  12. Congratulations! It sounds to me like management is trying to give you an "inside track" when it comes time to officially fill the position by pre-qualifying you with experience that can go on your resume of already having worked at that level of responsibility. It will make it easier to show "on paper" that you are the most qualified candidate and therefore the correct choice for filling the position. GEM
  13. Especially if it's a Garfield Class Maine Coon, or similar. I would advise against moving or picking up this particular embellished rock. It is most likely the marker for a pressure sensitive trigger for a Glitter Bomb. GEM Report is out on today's measurement of the Sierra Nevada Snow Pack. As suspected, it's a low water content report for the second year in a row. Which means Cali. is heading into another drought cycle. GEM
  14. New technique for dealing with spam callers who want to be all friendly: "Hello, sir, how are you today?" "You tell me what you want and then I'll tell you how I am." - Consistently derails them as their script book doesn't have a page for dealing with that response. GEM And yes I am in an ill tempered mood for various reasons, mostly involving incompetent medical front office staff and broccoli phone systems.
  15. Received a call from our sales agent at Craftsman Homes letting me know they took a water sample and it is at the lab for analysis and report. The Water Quality Report is the last piece of documentation needed to complete the loan docs, which means we are agonizingly close to our journey towards a new home to reach a successful conclusion. GEM
  16. So if it's food that comes in suitable sized boxes it gets top consideration? GEM
  17. Comic Con has announced there will be a "mini-con" this year over Thanksgiving weekend. GEM
  18. No, No, No! The proper course of action is to now subscribe to a print by mail service while you save up to buy your own printer. GEM
  19. There is a spring tide running today. It is projected to put an additional 18" of water under the keel, which will hopefully be enough to float the ship enough for the available tugs to completely free it from its current position. I sincerely hope that it works. GEM
  20. Being the slightly crusty old curmudgeon that I am I would impress upon the manager the inability of the hardware store people to supply such an item because all of the materials available for this purpose are accordion fold opaque materials. Therefore, if they are going to insist on a clear one, they are either going to have to supply you with the manufacturer and part number information for an item meeting their specifications, or, the actual filler piece in a clear material. This is a "show me" situation where I wouldn't expend any further effort until the apartment manager shows you installations in the building meeting this "requirement". I have never in my entire life seen such an installation where the filler panel was made out of a transparent material. It is usually an opaque plastic engineered as either sliding panels or accordion fold to fill the gap and the fill piece usually butts up against framing pieces to make for a more secure installation. Should the apartment manager be unwilling to accommodate you by supplying the information or materials to meet their specification, which they obviously know since they are insisting on an item meeting this specification, then your lawyer should request the information in a Louder Voice by way of a letter on official letterhead. If the manager can't supply either the filler panel in a material meeting their specification or where to obtain such a panel then their "demand" is unreasonable on its face. It is additionally unreasonable in that a clear panel [unreasonably] removes all privacy from the room where the unit is installed, because you can't have drapes or other window coverings blocking the AC Unit. 21. This has yet to be determined. According to the reports I've read it is resting with the prow buried in one bank and the stern in the other. They don't know how much of the bottom it may have plowed over sideways or what the level of support is under the middle of the keel. If there isn't enough support under the middle of the keel it may have suffered damage, anything from minor and easily repaired up to major structural damage to the keel itself. In any case, it's going to require significant lightening of the ship before it can be refloated. Even if they pump off most of the fuel and liquid ballast it won't be enough to lighten ship sufficiently. Which means they have to remove cargo. As quickly as possible. GEM
