Pete left Smallville to go with his mother. He was tired of getting beat up just to save Clark's secret.

But will we see the data card before the faction book comes out? Maybe a little clearer. Will we see a Reven unit data card from the Reven Faction Book before the Reven Faction Book is released? Was talking with some others about this and while is was assumed so by some it was never clearily stated one way or another by the Official Reaper Gods

Maybe I'm taking this wrong, but it sounds like you want no responsiblity of your player base. There should be more to it then just getting people into the game and hoping they have fun with it. You should most definately care what is happening with the game that you are representing in your area. It's not my job as a local player to go find the local rep so I can play him because he can't be bothered to see what is happening outside his favorite game store. Nor would I respect a demo rep if the only time he pays attention to his player base is when they are standing across from him at his demo at his favorite store. I would hope that the BL or whoever is trying to push the game would do anything and everything to get the word out about the game, be that if it's tournements or leagues or events or painting classes or demos. You can't just demo once and expect all to have complete knowledge of the game. and do whatever, you need follow ups. If that means going to another game store that isn't your favorite then do it, if it means going to someone's house and meeting with a couple of people and playing there, do it. If it means driving 40 miles to another town to get people involved then do it. I'm not trying to be a butt either. I would hope that Reaper will do whatever is needed to get the word out.

One is a very impersonal setting the other isn't. An example. Origins; Columbus, Oh. very big thousands of people wondering around. People from all over the globe playing and watching. BL/Reaper sees a LOT of people over the course of the 4 days. Not much chance for personal attention(yes there will be some). I completely understand the concept of give'em a demo let'em buy product and get'em playing at the Reaper Tables in the miniature room. Be that tournements, pick up games, whatever. Capcon; Columbus, Oh. Very small Couple hundred at most. Now you're talking about people who live close by. People who as a BL rep you will most likely come into contact with. You only do 1/15 of the demos that was done at Origins. It's a more personal relationship. I'm not saying that doing a tournement at the end of the con is wrong. What I am asking is what preception of Reaper/Warlord are you wanting to promote. Is Warlord going to be the once a month tournement style of game, dont bother me til next tournement...if that is what ends up happening, then you are only seeing a fraction of the people that may be playing. Not all people like the tournement circut. Have any played wizkids? This is what wizkids has done I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen people playing a pick up game of a wizkids product. But there is tournements going on every week for a wizkids product at the lgs. I see huge numbers of people buying the product, yet only 2-3 people from the lgs actually play in the tournements. Where are all the others at? I guess what I am saying is, only a small percentage of people like playing in tournements. Most end up playing at their houses or place of play. It's the big reason of the love/hate relationship of wizkids. Either you love it or you hate it. You'd be surprised how much the idea of playing in a league or tournament will inspire folks to play. It gives them a goal. I've been playing ttg for a couple of decades. In a number of different states. I have a firm grasp of how people play. The lgs groupies(for lack of a better term), the ones that are always at the store on game night. are just a small part of the people that actually play the games. I would be very surprised to find that a tournement draws a large percentage of the people that do play a particular game to the lgs. It really doesn't. Or atleast I haven't seen it.

I'm all for having fun, which is why I asked. Friendly competition though is a whole different animal. It's such a vague concept. The big cons i.e. Origins, genocons, etc I completely understand the idea of show'em the game, get'em over to the miniatures area and get'em playing concept. Because you have people from all over the globe at these types of cons. For the most part you'll have the people that are already into the game playing pick up games and what not at the Reaper section of the miniatures room. When you're talking about a more localised regional type con though the concept should change. Now you're only getting people from a select area, say a couple hundred miles give or take. They end up being a bit more personal then some bloke you demoed for at gencon. Here is a person who you may very well be doing a game store demo for in the upcoming coming months. I guess what it really comes down to though is what is Reaper's stance on how they want the game to be precieved

Because it means different things to different people. To say the Warlord is a skirmish game, will be taken differently by different people. I'm not afraid of options. I prefer options actually. I'm not understanding how this is going to be working, hence my questions. Why I asked. It's just noone really is giving any straight answers. I'm getting pieces from 4-5 different threads here and am trying to understand, but it seems all I am doing is making some mad and others would just rather ignore me. Not all here are 'in the know' we need some leeway when we ask questions about how this is going to be working.

I look at skirmish as two different animals. First you have skirmish from the historical standpoint of block formations, where skirmish is an idea of non-formation using units ala American Indians vs English regiments. Then you have the modern/scifi version of skirmish being an engagement of small units who usually act indpendantly of the other members of the squads ala the Predator movies The problem comes in when a game like Warlord is played both ways.

What are you trying to accomplish, that is a big question that needs to be answered before you even start doing demos followed by tournements.

That doesn't really make sense. Warlord and all the other RAGE games are just that; games. The game is more then just pewter, it's also paper. Or they wouldn't be publishing some 10(at last count) different books for the game. Maybe it's just me, but I would think that publishing 10 or so books would be a significant investment to any company. Okay I'm really trying to grasp this idea. I feel like I came into the conversation about 3/4 of the way through it. Let me get this straight, hopefully I am understanding this correctly. Reaper will be releasing X number of new units for Warlord. They will also give the information on new rules for these units. We as the paying public will then play with these new units and give feedback to Reaper. (through this forum and other mediums) Then they will publish a faction book with the new units adjusted to the feedback that was given. They'll also add in some other ideas into the faction book as an incentive to buy them. Is this the way Reaper will do it?

Since it seems that there will be new units released(other than the core book units) And it seems that the stat cards dont give full ability defintions other than; Tough/1 Will Reaper be releasing the rules for the new abilities and such? Or will they wait for the the respective Faction Book to be released?

Maybe your idea of skirmish is different from mine. 15 miniatures or less is the typical underlying statement for skirmish and some purists would even say it has to be under 10 to be called skirmish. Can Warlord be played like that? Sure, will it always be played like that? No. I would a further explaination on what you mean by I would rather not read into what you are trying to say and misinterpet.

There is a camp that does think that way. The only problem I see in it though comes from the lack of people knowing about a game. You dont start with the March Madness then play a regular season. Advertise the product first. Get people interested in it before you start serious competitive play.

How about waiting for the ink to dry on all the rule books before everyone starts jumping for tournements. Get the word out about the game first.

After doing some checking just to make sure I got my facts straight, the stats cards wont do much good if they something like belch/2 Everyone will be wondering what this new ability is and how it will be used. Will they release the new units before the faction book is out? Or will they wait until the faction book is out to release the new stuff? Stat cards are a great idea, however there is only so much that you can put on them. They can't replace the rulebook/faction books which from the looks of it they haven't. Can they release the rules for some new faction ability? Sure, but that undermines the sales of the faction books. I hesitate at the idea with new models, new SA's, new Faction Abilities, new Spells, new Items, New Upgrades, New types of Rosters, enhanced just about everything, ...You dont have to... if you like what you have already, don't...As I said, your Core army will still be winnable...Sure, you can, and you would still win just as many games, but the Faction books give you more variety than the current Core book offers.... follow this with Will the Factionbooks introduce new depth and tactics? YES Okay trying to understand here. Core armies will be just as effective at taking on and beating faction book armies. Faction book armies give you new models, new SA's, new Faction Abilities, new Spells, new Items, New Upgrades, New types of Rosters, Faction book armies give you new depth and tactics. Even with all the new add-ons to the core armies by way of Faction Books, the core army lists will be just as capable of winning as when the faction book didn't exist.
