Didn't we get enough cool stuff from them? The only thing about the auction and not enough RBs to do much for me is the 40 min drive I take on the last day to hang out for 2 hours. Other than that I enjoy watching the bid wars on some of the items and feel like I got plenty of stuff from Reaper in my VIP and Swag bags....plus any goodies given out in classes.
Given the choice of getting more paints and getting nothing, wouldn't you pick MORE PAINTS?
Yes, we get a lot of cool swag with our passes, especially if we get VIP passes, but there's still the fact that we have all this currency that goes unused. And some people are expressing unhappiness from not being able to spend them at all. Yes, Reaper & generous vendors can choose not to do the auction. They can also choose to not give us any swag. I'm not complaining about that. This is awesome. The auction is awesome. No other con does this. But it could be improved with just some simple consolation prizes. It's just a suggestion.

Could there be a prize section available all throughout the con where you can buy some cheaper stuff with the Reaperbucks?
Single Bones (there are extras from classes too), melt table credit, the $1 mis-labeled paint bottles, pencils & pens, notebooks, Chinese finger traps, snacks & candy, etc?
That way people who don't have very many Reaperbucks can still get something, people who aren't going to be there on Sunday can still get something, and it's a way to spend leftover Reaperbucks from the auction. It would help deflate the auction too, since if person A could just buy some stuff from the prize area for themselves, they wouldn't be giving those Reaperbucks to person B on auction day because person A can't afford the auction anyways. People who REALLY want the auction items can still get them, but people who don't have enough funds can still get some cool stuff :)

Maybe have "LFG" tables clearly labeled or sectioned off where anyone can plop down in an empty seat and socialize or paint?

Cool thanks :)

Is there a "friendly faces" thread with pictures of forumites? Just so newbies can match faces to usernames? I met some really cool people with amazing art, but neglected to remember their names/usernames...
Also, seeing work too would be awesome, since I might remember someone's face but not what they painted, or vice versa.

Some folks got free meal tickets at the Hilton; other's didn't.
The Fairfield is now an alternative. I like the Hilton and its staff, but the price difference and the free breakfast may have changed the scales.
The Fairfield was great, but the shuttle didn't pick us up so we had to use Lyft or bum rides. Also, nobody really hangs out there. I was really glad I went to play ub3r's D&D game at the Hilton on Saturday night, it was so lively there compared to Fairfield! I'll definitely go hang out at the Hilton after hours next time.
The breakfast is pretty great though. I actually really liked the turkey sausage. The coffee was pretty decent. Plus you can bring some extra food to the con if you get hungry :)

Making those custom ribbons looks pretty pricey! It's such a cool idea though.

A critique session would be amazing too on Sunday. I learned a lot just following instructors around listening to them give critique to other painters while waiting for them to look at my pieces. I learned what to watch out for in certain things, what works, what doesn't, what judges like to see, etc. To keep it short and get to everyone though, no excuses allowed.

Maybe longer or combo classes? I took two NMM classes but didn't feel like I have complete knowledge of it. More in depth 3 class set would be great, especially for more tricky parts like boots and buckles. Also for bodies; combo skin with hair, and maybe clothing color.
Beginner techniques class that covers all different types of blending, glazing, washing; most teachers use different techniques, it would be good to know what they are exactly and try them out.
Track classes that are grouped together maybe at a discount... Beginner, intermediate, advanced. With specific requirements (like you need to know what a color wheel is, or basic techniques for the intermediate track, and advanced track will be stuff like free hand, competition quality, etc.) It's nice you can take any class you want but beginner students take time away from more advanced ones. The teacher shouldn't have to take time in a 2 hour class to explain basics to one person.

Ah I'm doing D&D Saturday night. But let me know if you need people for DCC, because I could probably drop out of that one, the guy had a lot of people on the waitlist. :)

My friend is actually GMing a DCC event on Friday night! Depending on the day, we will probably want to join.

D&D after hours! Players who told me they definitely want to play and who I’ve put down in these lists:
Wenesday Night - 9:00pm to 11:00pm
Saturday Night - 9:00pm to 11:00pm
I had quite a few “maybes” so I’m sorry I couldn’t put you on the lists if others definitely wanted to play.
The two two sessions will be for level 6 characters. I will have plenty of pre-generated characters on hand. You can roll your own characters up and bring, but nothing super-powerful with tons of magic items.
A bit bit of a lead-in for Wednesday. You are a group of adventurers who are all part of the same Guild of adventurers called “The Scarlet Rogues,” it’s made up of people from all walks of life and they send out small groups to check out areas of possible great wealth and/or power. The guild leader has selected your group to investigate a rumor that came to her less than a week ago. A tomb of a great emperor was uncovered a couple of days ago and she wants the guild to get the prime pickings!
A lead in for Saturday: a rival Guild called the “Grey Daggers” who specialize in high stakes jobs such as assassinations and “recovery services” has encroached on Scarlet Rogue territory and stolen an item of great value from the Guild master, she wants it back and she wants to teach this rival guild a lesson!
Any questions, please PM me.
Awesome, thank you! Looking forward to playing with you all :)

A bit more info on the D&D after hours games I’ll be running.
9pm-11pm in the HGI lobby where they have tables and chairs.
I will get a list together tonight. Some want to play Wednesday, some Saturday and some both days. So I’ll get a little matrix together and post it up.
Will this be premade, adventure league, or new characters? :O
I'd love to play if you have room.

Heck, I've even heard that there are people who have just started new projects this close to the convention...
I just started one, but I think I can get it done if I no-life it until 5pm Friday next week. I'll sleep when I'm dead.

I bought the Golden crackle paste medium instead of going out to buy the GW crackle paint... but so far no crackles in my test swatches. I'm hoping some people here have tried Golden before and have any tips. Do I need a base coat? Glue on the bottom? Thicker layers? Does it need the full 3 days to dry & cure even for small terrain pieces?
I'm hoping to be able to just use what I already have, but I might be able to buy some Agrellan earth this weekend if the Golden doesn't work. Or if there are any good crackle paints for a dry desert texture I could find at Joann's or Michael's or Blick.
Thanks! :)

Looks great!
What kind of crackle paste did you use? I'm currently trying to create a desert diorama, and I bought Golden crackle paste from Michaels. The test swatches (painted thin, and a little thicker) didn't seem to crackle much overnight. :(
I might have to shell out for GW dry earth paint, but I'm hoping you have some tips!

Horror is the theme.
I think it's so you can't wear three costumes in one day and get credit three times.
Sweet, thank you for the clarification!

So the site says "themed costume" but I didn't see a theme for this year anywhere... or is it the Factions/Dreadmere? Could we wear just any type of fantasy inspired costume?
The Faction page says "30 points each day you wear a costume," and on the Reaperbucks page it says "each day you wear a qualifying... costume to receive these ReaperBucks. No repeat gains." If I wear the same costume every day, can I get 30 Faction Points & 100 Reaperbucks? Or can I only get the 100 Reaperbucks once? It says "each day" but it also says "no repeat gains."
