    You're correct.

Since Italy, Japan and Hitler's Germany formed the Axxis Alliance it was inevitable that they would be drawn into the conflict.

I'm not sure it was inevitable, (after all, Japan didn't declare war on USSR,) but I'm utterly thankful that things went the way they did.

I recommend Ian Kershaws' "Fateful Choices" to understand how these decisions were made.

It was also the reason the USA joined the War against the Axis, A certain Austrian man with a small mustache who ruled Germany at that time, wasn't really pleased with this.

I for one am grateful that the US came to our aid and the Allies liberated us in the end.

Not exactly. Roosevelt declares war only on Japan on 8th. December. Hitler then declares war on USA on 11th. December. It is one of the great "what ifs" what might have happened if he had not done so. There was a strong desire in America (particularly in the high ranks of the military) to deal with Japan before intervening in Europe.

February 26th Question of the Day:

Who was your favorite teacher in school and why?

Jill Tweedie, my History teacher for my last 3 years of secondary school. Only 5'3", but fierce enough to keep any class in order.

She didn't teach me mere facts. She taught me how to study, and then get what I had learnt down in a coherent form on paper. How to construct an argument so that you will convince your reader. (And thus how to demolish an opponents case.)

This made me a complete pain in the behind to my other teachers as I practised showing up the fallacies in whatever they were teaching, But it won me several debating prizes in my last year, and a rapt audience whenever I got up to speak.

February 27th Question of the Day

Furry, scaley or feathery friends - Show us a picture of your family member.  Past or current is fine.

    I still miss this lad:

And my wife was so cut up at his passing that she refuses to consider a replacement.

What 3 Famous People, Living Or Dead, Would You Want At Your Fantasy Dinner Party?

Douglas Adams, P.G. Wodehouse and Terry Pratchett.

Oh and ManvsMini: You'd better lay in a good supply of food, Prince Otto is reputed to have had a gargantuan appetite.
