  1. Any idea what these little cuties are supposed to be? (Not my paint job) Thanks!
  2. Everyone knows shoulders are a human's greatest weak point. They must be protected at all cost. Enthusiasm and Commentary thread :P
  3. Recently found this very exciting page about Reaper's planned "P-65 Heavy Metal" line of lead miniatures. But maybe not so exciting. The page says these will come out in "September", but there is no year listed. So I looked closer: the quote from Asia Pulse is from 2008, and check on http://web.archive.org reveals that P-65 miniatures were listed for sale as early as 2009. Then I found out that the page noting a release date of September has been up since at least 2010 :(. Does anyone know anything about this line, and if there are plans to revive it? I really enjoy metal miniatures, but I can typically only afford to buy old models on Ebay. I adore these old Ral Partha sculpts, but I also really wish I could have more Reaper brand minis. Also, I end up eating very few of the miniatures in my collection, so I'm not very worried about the health effects.
  4. Beasts of England Beasts of Ireland Beasts of every land and clime! Love it love it love it. Your color choices are great.
  5. Is it related to the transition away from physical sculpting? Perhaps the artists hired to do computer modeling are just more used to that style. I've been getting most of my minis from Ebay: really enjoying old ral partha and reaper models. I can't afford to buy old school Reaper models retail at the moment. There are still a lot of great Bones options in the old style that I plan on buying, but I'm feeling iffy about the number of new style sculpts in this Kickstarter package. Perhaps if these new Blizzard style sculpts are really what people want, as you suggest, I can get the Kickstarter, keep the models I want, and sell the rest on eBay. I tried using waybackmachine to figure this out, but the image is the same as the current version: not a lot of digital renders. Most of the Renders that are on the page look pretty good, but they're mostly of large monsters. The crusaders package looks pretty WoW-y though. [I can't upload an image at the moment for some reason - will try again later] Does anyone know how these models ended up looking?
  6. Can someone explain the below images to me? Anyone else feel that some of these sculpts are a little too WoW-looking? I was really enthusiastic about pledging in for my first Reaper Core Set, plus some extras, but looking closer I'm not so sure. Many of the weapons look positively cartoonish, and the big smooth features remind me of HeroForge, and not necessarily in a good way. Or are these just temporary images of incomplete projects?
  7. Ooo good idea. But I don't. Can I attach a toothbrush head to my dremel? But all the animals in the Park are supposed to be female... uh oh.
  8. 3 weeks. I've been taking them out and giving them a toothbrush scrub every weekend to see if I can make some scratches, increase surface area, but no dice. My tooth brush has gotten a little soft though - might need to try something stiffer.
  9. Really? What kind of brush do you scrub with? I see tiny bits flaking off at the edges, with the slightly darker gray of the plastic underneath, so I can tell the primer is still on. Maybe I got a batch using a different formula - that would also explain why mine look so much worse than the pictures and rave reviews I keep hearing. Maybe I'll give up and paint them as ooze-folk.
  10. Anyone have any ideas for stripping the primer off these things? A friend gave me a set of WizKids PC minis to paint but they all have pudding faces. Simple Green has not been doing the trick.
  11. This one? It has the right box, but the actual miniatures inside appear to be some sort of goat-folk. Not severed hand, but if anyone's interested there's a pretty good deal on Grenadier orcs ending in 45 minutes right here.
  12. That collar bone is an inspiration. I imagine it was very frustrating before you learned the eyes are closed! I've never even seen a mini with closed eyes before.
  13. Thanks Glitterwolf! I got into this because I felt like too many of my minis were ending up in various shades of earth tone. Or if a creature is a bright color, it's all one bright color with *maybe* a different tone belly. This is ironic because while I have a great selection of inexpensive, vibrant colors at my disposal, the pigments in these medieval works often cost a literal fortune. That's probably *why* they're so multicolored: a display of wealth. In particular, I like the last two pic. The colors are boring in one of them, but they both tell tales of forbidden love between griffons and farm animals. One shot inspiration?
  14. Looks great! I've been having a really hard time with greens lately. You should consider putting some flock under the pits: this looks like a guy that should have very hair armpits.
  15. [when there are just too many minis to paint] "Master Pochi. There are too many of them. What are we going to do?"
  16. I like the choice of oxidized green for the copper dragon!
  17. I recently ordered a dragon (Ral Partha 01-146) with a sculpt that looks closer to something out of an old medieval manuscript than an rpg bestiary. For inspiration, I started looking through some actual medieval manuscripts for inspiration and found some great stuff! Below, I have attached some of what I found, as well as a very nice 19th century (I think?) print. Finally, I've included some images of the famous 16th century Deruta ceramic style - we've had a Deruta dragon teapot in my family as long as I can remember, and I'm excited by the idea of doing a Deruta-themed dragon at some point in the future. Feel free to post similar images for use as inspiration below, but please no contemporary stuff!
  18. It's a sphamner: part hammer, part spanner.
  19. That lava glow OSL is unreal, and the little red eyes are super cute.
  20. Looks great! Definitely makes me want to avoid fire giant incarceration. If that mini had the albino skin you originally planned + a shave, it might resemble your avatar! Ever attempt a conversion Kill Face mini?
  21. Great looking base! Wow, the "evil acolytes" from that collection are... poor taste maybe?
  22. Those pants are absolute magic. Do you just free hand stripes like that, or is there a technique?
  23. [disclaimer: total novice here!] I've had some success using fun tack for masking on non-flat surfaces.
