  1. A request from an observers PoV:

Be very aware of your participants and possible disabilities. Participating in a Sophie Says where I have to crawl under a table or bend a weird way would be impossible for me. I understand these things are supposed to be fun, but seeing the things people have been asked to do puts it in my mind that I can't participate in such fun and games. This pushes me away from this aspect of the con.

The first two cons I would take the punch card and buy stuff at the smaller vendors.  Spent a lot more than I do now when i take daughter and let her do the card....and I give us a limit on how much we spend. I tell her $100 and we usually hit it or get close but she will walk around looking at stuff before she decides. :)

I need to learn and tell her no at times because the most expensive thing she bought was a $25 custom kitten thing made from those pearl beads that stick together when heated.  Not sure it was $25 worth BUT she loved it a lot until she won the Sophie blanket the next day.  Now that thing is with her as much as it can be.  At her desk watching youtube or playing Minecraft today and it was on her lap.  Sitting on couch playing XBOX games with me or watching some cartoons...it was wrapped around her.  She is a Sophie fan now. :)

@knarthex won me my Sophie blanket last year and I've slept with it every night since.

    Thorsday, August 30:

What non-hobby related trophies do you have?

I have a blue, first place ribbon from my first, and only, motocross race.

Numerous first, second, and third place ribbons from photography contests in highschool.

One third place ribbon from a night stand I built for a UIL contest in 7th grade. My aunt ended up using it as a plant stand. <_<

Patches and s few medals from competative ice skating in grade school.

i do apologize in advance to people i friend

i get out of hte house once or twice a week, and often only get 1 or 2 presents on those outings. With the 3 friends i have already, i still struggle to send a gift every day. once i add more, it'll be more difficult still, so i apologize in advance for not being a daily gift-giver

Same here. I have a pokestop near my desk at work, but some days I spin all day and get no gifts.

edit: No links! Bad @Pezler the Polychromatic! Bad!

Got to agree with GW. Not sure I have a Most Hated song.

My youngest absolutely despises Diggy Diggy Hole to the point of screaming/violence when it is played. He also intensely dislikes Dwarves and the "D" word.

Met the most formal, snotty elves ever in our spelljammer campaign last night. Almost ruined everything when one of them asked my character if she was "the babe" (meaning child, dude was seriously stuck up).

Hubby said "the babe with the power" was not an acceptable response

Perfectly acceptable response in my estimation.

Calling a huge dog Fifi or Frou Frou or something like that.

Or vice versa calling a chihuahua or a similar smal dog Wodan, Thor or something like that.

When I lived in Rotterdam I knew a guy who called his dog Gozer, this means Dude.

So when he walked the streets you would imagine him calling GOZER! ( DUDE!)  every time the dog ran too far.

Guys would turn their heads to see if he meant them.

So... when the Ghostbusters are fighting the BBEG just before it turns into Stay Puft, they're fighting...

Dude The Duderian, Dude The Destructor,  Volguus Zildrohar, Dude The Traveler, Lord Of The Sebouillia

Best name for a large mastiff: The Keymaster of Dude!

  8. A thought of concern for those attending. This post comes from Mercedes Lackey, the author, who was at GenCon this year. Spoilered for length.

    So, here is what happened.

On Wednesday night we checked into the Marriot for Gencon and were given a newly renovated room.  What did not occur to me was that this was a newly renovated room and everything was outgassing.  Paint, carpet, furniture, everything.  In a room with no way to vent the gas building up.  And I am incredibly sensitive to that stuff.

Thursday night we went to bed after a day of con work.  I woke up to the alarm at 9 after 9 hours and sleep and felt like I hadn't had any.  I reset the alarm for 10, same.  I reset it for 11 and got up, still feeling the same.  As I was getting ready, I realized I was getting more and more unsteady, dizzy, disoriented, losing my balance.  I began talking to myself and heard myself slurring words.  I realized I was in trouble, tried to dial 911, got 977 instead, hit the 0 on the house phone, told them I thought I was having a stroke, and please call emergency services.

By the time they got there I was halucinating.  When I opened the door to the paramedics, and the hotel manager, I saw the medics, the manager, and standing between them a beautiful woman with long sandy-brown wavy hair in an astronaut's orange jumpsuit.  I explained what my symptoms were as best I could and THEY were convinced I was having a stroke.  Meanwhile, Judy Chambers who had been gofering for me had arrived, with Bill Fawcett.  Bill took over in his usual efficient manner (and he is literally my guardian angel in this).

By the time we got to the hospital I could barely talk and was hallucinating like it was Woodstock.  Bill and Judy were with me every step of the way, as I got EKG, EEG and MRI.  I'll tell you all about the hallucinations some time, they were doozies.  Bill stayed with me until I got a room, and the hallucinations and slurred speech started to clear.  That was when he told me about the conversation he and the hotel manager had had about the outgassing.  Bill stayed with me until about an hour after I fell asleep.

By this morning I was absolutely my old self.  By 10 AM I had convinced the GP, the Neurologists and the Toxicologists that I was good to release, and they turned me loose about noon.   Charles Borner, another friend who was in the loop (and scheduled to stay with me when Bill couldn't) brought be back over to the con, and I managed to do my scheduled signing.

I'm fine.  And incredibly grateful to all of you who were so worried, and even more grateful to Judy, Chaz and especially Bill.  I've been moved to another room, one of the first renovated, which had a 3 hour deep clean and an inspection with gasometers before  we were allowed to set foot in it.  We'll be going home Monday.

Larry has been home all this time because he has a bad shoulder injury that exacerbated some upper spinal problems he had.  Which is ultimately more serious than what landed me in the hospital.

The hotel for ReaperCon is new. Be aware of Ms. Lackey's symptoms in case you or someone else is sensitive to off-gassing. Hopefully by now it won't be a problem, but you never know.

Stay safe and healthy and enjoy the con.

Question for Tuesday, July 31st: COIN CHECK! Do you know what a challenge coin is? Do you have one? Share your picture of it (them) if you do.

If you don't, or can't show it off, suggest a question for the next Quisitor!

Yes, I know what they are. I don't have any.

Quisitor question: What would you rather be doing right now?

Question for Monday, July 30th: Fancasting! Who would you cast to play your favorite comic character? (if you don't have a favorite comic book character, cast Wonder Woman or Superman)

Not my favorite comic book character, and this can't happen , but I always thought Raul Julia would make a fantastic Doctor Doom.

I always loved Psylocke and Raven.

    Psylocke: Gemma Chan

    Raven: Lupita Nyong’o
