  1. This is an extremely raw beginning WIP. Saw this and thought it was a beautiful mini, couldn't wait to try it. I am using just the new holiday collection of paints so far, but I am open to any suggestions for changes. I used the holly berry and it went down pretty well, and the Christmas Wreath green, then Golden Glow because I don't know what color that gold is in the website pic. I thinned everything down a lot (maybe too much) and the green went on horribly. I know the pics are blurry but I think you will get what I mean about the green. It went on very dull and muddy looking, almost like a wash that was really heavy. It looks better in the pics now that it has dried overnight, but it still looks blotchy. And the back looks pitted or something, I don't know what is wrong with it. I haven't finished laying down the yellow, so some of the green shows through because it was so thin. Any advice or suggestions are always welcome
  2. That would be really good. I bought some inks once by mistake and am not sure what to do with them. Several things I read on line said if you didn't do them right you could ruin a model with them, so I just put them in the back of the drawer and left them there
  3. Awesome, Thanks! I figured if anyone would know where they came from someone here would. I appreciate letting me know. Although they are ogres now, because I am not repainting them! :) Thank you!
  4. A friend of mine asked me if I would paint these for him, and as payment he said I could pick one to keep for myself. I have no idea where they came from or who made them, hence the title. I used Ogre skin from the new reaper bones set for the main color, with a wash of reikland fleshshade which didn't show up well in the pictures. For highlight I added flash glitz yellow to brighten up the contrast, which again didn't show up well in the pics. I Used flames of war "colors of war" (which if I correct is made by Vallejo) wool brown for the clothes and citadel leadbelcher for metal parts with a wash of nuln oil
  5. Thanks! Inarah, I took your advice about the lips, looks much better now. :)
  6. That sounds like some very good advice, thanks! I love the link to the picture of the lips, gonna try that tonight. Thanks!
  7. Thank you! I said I didn't like the lips, but the actual figure looks a good bit better than the picture
  8. Got this with my order of the new paint sets, felt inspired by Halloween to use only the new paints, along with the fresh blood and breast cancer awareness pink. Not happy with the lips, they stand out too much. I know it's not great, but it's pretty good by my personal standards :) I did use Citadel washes but everything else is from the new sets. I don't know what I keep doing wrong, but the colors always seem kind of dingy or something.
  9. That doesn't sound too bad, I think. Thanks everyone!
  10. That sounds pretty good. I appreciate the compliments! Yeah, I really need to base him. Kind of cheated with the bases for all these goblins. Painted the bases in just basic colors in groups of five and painted numbers underneath, so I could keep track of them for our One Ring rpg. Easier to keep up with a bunch of enemies when all I have to do is look at the base color and the number under it. "OK, you are attacking yellow number 3, got it" Good for big battles, at least it works for me
  11. Hello everyone! I have been teaching myself how to paint for a while, and am the first to admit I have a lot to learn! I have been watching these forums for a little while, and thought I would post here the Goblin King from GW LOTR strategy battle game and see if anyone would mind giving me some advice. It just seems...unfinished, or something. I have used citadel paints and washed it with Agrax Earthshade, but may another wash or something? All advice and opinions welcome. Thanks!
  12. OK, I figured out to change the size of the image, but it doesn't change the file size. I\Or at lest I don't think it does. Aha, got it! Thanks everyone!
  13. OK, downloaded Gimp. Boy that's a big program. But I can't figure out to use it to resize pictures BTW, I have windows 7 I have Paint, I think. Will try that one.
  14. Greetings everyone! I have a couple pics of a mini I am working on, but the file size is a little over 5 MB. I hate to ask because you guys probably get asked this all the time, but how can I reduce my file size enough to post? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  15. From everything I have read on these boards and facebook posts, and from my experiences with gaming, the very vast majority of people we interact with at these types of cons are very cool people and very considerate of others. We all know what it's like to put ourselves out there and find acceptance from people we like and respect. I am so looking forward to coming next year. It will be a very different experience for me, because other that Garycon, the only cons I have ever been to are Origins, GenCon, and Drgoncon, which are all huge. A con of 1,000? Sounds pretty cozy :)
  16. Being a total newb here I hope you guys will forgive me for jumping into this conversation, but it really hit something with me. KingMob I agree with what you say, but I think there is another way to look at how people act toward each other some times. it is possible that people who are saying nothing but nice things aren't really helping you and people who say things that seem mean may be doing it to help, but it seems hurtful because they use no tact. Let me use American Idol as an example of what I mean. During the auditions some of the entrants were, to put it mildly, terrible singers. But their circle of friends and family had always told them that they were great and wonderful and the judges should love them because that was what they thought they should say to show encouragement and support. Then when the person appeared before the judges, who had no vested interest in their feelings, sometimes they were absolutely crushed by the judges' responses. Sometimes those were heart crushing moments, but the judges were just being (sometimes brutally) honest with the person, maybe for the first time in their lives. So sometimes they took it as being mean and hurtful, and projected anger toward the judges. But if they were honest with themselves, which is very hard to do sometimes, they sometimes had to admit that the judges had a point, and maybe they should take singing lessons. Or maybe pursue a different path completely. What I am saying here is that sometimes people who are nice aren't always helpful, and sometimes people who seem mean aren't always trying to be hurtful. It's up to you how to take what they say and use it to your advantage
  17. Hello to all the good people on the forums! I wasn't able to attend this year but am very seriously planning to attend next year. From what I have seen online, looks like a really good time
