Getting to know you: January 2019

True- I am talking about movies, while I'm sure there's something in print that might engage me more, superhero as a genre is still not hugely appealing to me. I have to admit I don't do a huge amount of reading- my free time mainly being d&d prep or miniature painting- so when I do dedicate time to reading it's not likely to be a comic book over a traditional (usually adventure/fantasy book) The only reason I have seen as many of these superhero films as I have is OH and I have "Limitless" a cinema loyalty program where we pay a fee per month and can go see any film at all, so OH often wants to see everything that comes through!

Really unpopular opinion; I am totally burned out on superheroes. I used to really like x-men, though I wouldn't call myself a mega-fan or anything but if I'd had to pick a few years ago, it'd be that. But now I really just cant be bothered to see any more superhero films, I'm really over it. The hero saves the day, there's probably a love interest, if it's edgy they might kill the love interest... even Infinity Wars with it's darker end wasn't different enough to really hook me into the next film, because there's always a next film.

I've been pestering OH to put a similar plan into action- we live in an old house and the pipework that goes into the loft has big gaps around them- and I'm convinced that's where all these monstrous spiders appear from!

I can smell swarfega just by reading the word! My dad used it everyday when he came home from work- I remember that huge bucked it came in too- glad it comes in smaller sizes now! He must have switched products now because he’s still working but I never smell it or see it out when I go home to visit- but it certainly takes me back when I do see (or smell) it!

    Unpainted Minis from Wizkids

Interesting, I wonder is that shark a pre paint? I don’t think I’ve seen an unpainted one like that listed anywhere- not that I need a shark, but, well look at it!!!

Yep, bap is a generic term for large soft bread rolls, best served with more carbs inside such as chips or hashbrowns!

Veggiesaurus, and then add British to that, so I eat almost nothing except boiled veg smothered in gravy, chips, baps, and a combination of the 3. I've been totally veg-based for about 4 years now, before that I was an omnivore but I never really ate pork, beef, lamb etc, I've never liked them.

Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

Every day closer to Bones arriving I get more anxious about how little space I will have to store it. To be fair I have accepted that I'll need to be putting my pokemon card folders into storage (I gave up collecting a few years ago, basically at the same time I became interested in D&D- but I dont have it in me to sell the cards or anything, so storage boxes it is!) This will free up a few shelves on my bookcases, and I'm less worries about my unpainted minis storage as I'll probably leave them in their original packaging until I paint them; it's painted model storage that's starting to become a bit of a challenge for me...

Congratulations to all affected! I'm glad you're getting paid, and hope your government stays open, amongst other things. I'm curious about the "Houses" is there a way to see how many members are in each team? Is there some sort of competition between houses? Enquiring minds want to know!

Reaper Bones 4: Enthusiasm and Commentary Thread

The latest Reaper Live has me really excited to get my box o' bones in the post! and I'm starting to regret not getting a few of the bits like the cobra and elephant king, at the time I had no real need for it (still dont actually but that's not the point) but seeing the actual models on the table like that makes me wish I'd got them anyway! The same with the paint sets, can't believe I thought I had enough paint, what was I thinking?! XD

Sounds like your Dad has a similar situation to my parents, they're the 2nd from last house down a very long(miles) lane with <10 houses, so no internet company thinks it's worth putting in a "green box" to connect the last few houses. The lane is also downhill as well and the surrounding area is lightly forested, the combination of which means phone signal is pretty rare. I think satellite is probably their only option, and even then the trees around the house might rule that out, but yeah the price isnt great, and there are data limits, which I thought had become a thing of the past but seemingly not!

Hmm, understandable. That sounds pretty annoying, I haven't had any experience with it myself so it's good to hear from someone who's at least used it! I think it's probably worth them trying it for a while anyway- it's not like it could get any worse! XD

Oh yeah? My parents are looking into satellite internet at the moment as they live literally in the middle of nowhere- what kind of problems can they expect? I'm lucky enough to live in a fibre area, but their current broadband they get about 0.2 which isnt fast enough to do anything really!

Nice! You've got a few of my "wish list" rollers there, can't wait to see what you make with them!

Fair enough! I've been in the miniatures hobby <2 years, I hope one day my collection can look this impressive!

*wiping tears away* It's.... Beautiful... I am insanely jealous of both your organisational ability, space available, and quantity of painted miniatures! Well done!
  19. 1) yep, the website. 2) the HD paint line was discontinued in August, no new paint was made after that, and most if not all remaining stock was bought up in the Black Friday sale. To the best of my knoedge no other paints or paint lines produced via reaper will “disappear” though “sample paints” are one-offs and Limited Edition / Seasonal colours are a thing. 3) upcoming paint colour releases aren’t announced super far in advance, but are included in forum news posts shortly prior to their release. I anticipate most of the next batches of paints to be released will be those featured in the bones 4 Kickstarter being released a few at a time at some point after March.

    Reaper paints and Professional Painters

Some excellent points being made above, but one that I don’t think has been mentioned with regards to Vallejo, is they send out TONS of free stuff to painters they like, or are popular, so that they can be seen using it- anyone follow Angel Giraldez on Instagram? His sponsorship, is a massive endorsement for Vallejo. To my knowledge, Reaper doesn’t send out as much free stuff, or if they do it’s not done strategically for advertising purposes to YouTube, Twitch or instagram “famous” painters. Painting is hard to make pay the bills- people use what is most readily available to them, if it’s high quality and free, even better.

    Unpainted Minis from Wizkids

I love that silver dragon sculpt, though there are a few very hard to reach bits and mine came with some NASTY mole lines running right across the scales. I’d buy another 2 in a heart beat though, to paint one silver and one gold. My first one is blue- as I thought I might run the HotDQ module first but changed my mind to Dragon Heist!

Don’t have one yet. Theory being that we want to move in a year or two and will have more space then, things are a bit cramped now- we could get one now and I probably could make the space for it- but if we wait a year or two I think the quality of any printer we got would be significantly improved too Same! We have a black cat too (see my profile pic) named, very creatively, Shadow. In my area for the charity I volunteer for we have so many black cats come into our care, way more than all other colours combined, and they are much harder to regime it’s so sad! A lot of the ferals around here that we TNR are black too!

Yeah luckily for my school this was before the real rise of social media, so it was an outraged 1/4 page in the local paper not an echo chamber of angry mumsnetters! I doubt they do the same thing now, probably just cancel school if snows even predicted! We were right on the coast as well so the weather was even less predictable (I'm not sure if that's scientific or anecdotal- but I definitely feel the weather is less predictable the further to the coast you get!)

I remember several times where they "snowed off" school halfway through the day and sent the kids home- resulting in very angry parents because kids couldn't get into their houses because the parents were still at work or couldn't get home from school after it closed because if it's too snowy to keep the school open, guess what? It's also too snowy for the buses to run!

I refuse to choose XD I love dogs, and I love cats. I've had both my entire life. While I dedicate my free time to helping cats for charity, that is partially because there are no dog charities in my town, so that was a proximity based decision. I also have 2 cats and 0 dogs, because I live in a masonette with no direct garden access and over the past few years have grown increasingly "houseproud" so cats are definitely less messy compared to the sort of dog I like!
