  1. I you want to keep an animalistic theme in a freelance army: Ragers Minotaurs Beastmen Centaurs Archers This army is, IMHO, cooler than it is effective. But it would look great on the table.
  2. While I don't believe that Warlord is not so complicated to warrant the Star Fleet Battles Treatment , I certainly wouldn't object. If there was a deliberate attempt to keep sections even numbered pages, and references made only by rule chapter and section, you wouldn't fubar the index when rules got modified. The reason to keep even pages (even if the last page reads "This page blank for notes") is so the book correction copies can always be inserted without losing the first page of the next section. The reason to refer to rules by subsection is so the page count can change. If Chapter 4, section 3 is close-combat, it will always be easy to refer to it as "Please see Section 4.3 for details". This would actually probably add to the cost of the rules, as you'd have about a dozen 4 page sections, or so, with a few extraneous pages. The efficiency would be much higher, though. This is similar to how contracts are built in my job, so that when a portion is replaced, it can be updated easily.
  3. I thought that as a reboot of "feathered sky" it would be appropriate for Elves to not take the max range hit on an indirect shot. That would replace our pie plates of doom, even with the -2 penalty to hit. That would make us quite tough in our element (wooded battlefields), but give us much less benefit in open war. The reboot of the game has reperked my interest. Now, I feel as if I have a chance against the undead horde of undeadiness that my opponent takes.
  4. For reference, what should we call the next update? 1.4 seems the most likely, a little small compared to the difference between 1.0 and 1.2. It might be more properly Warlord 2.0 There seems to be two major issues with next update to Warlord - the change in release format, and the changes to the rules I'm basically happy with release format changes. To require players to have only the rule book and one "latest and greatest" Rage update seems to be quite fair. I'll probably pick up Kruger's Journals, though. I love me my elves, and they seem to be languishing. If Reaper were to include instructions involving getting the rules update by snail-mail in the core books, I'd be happy. While I'm online at Reaper often enough to get the updates, there are those in our community who aren't. The rule changes, while they make me nervous, are IMHO necessary. While my army is probably bottom third competitive (I take some models for fluff and attractiveness), the Crusader player who loves cavalry and archers is sunk. Correcting the long-standing problems in the game balance away from hordes is needed. I will have to play with the multi-wound grunts before I'm comfortable with the change. From a Scadian point of view, one-hit one-kill made sense to me. I fear the game becoming too cumbersome to play well for large scale combat. Bottom line (except for the signature) is I'm cautiously optimistic.
  5. I would be prone to put Eawod and the archers together, although I understand the desire to have as many activiations with good archer ability. The exercise that makes me want to have an art group y like Eawood + Archers + (Ceawyn if taken) is simple. Draw the rectangle that is a 24" by 12" deployment zone. Draw a 5" radius circle within it. Imagine all those dead undead. Give much thanks to bauhaus. I love Ceawyn's model, but I tend to avoid using her. She and Eawod are individually quite expensive. Together, they are a good chunk of your army. Is Ceawyn worth 5 archers? Probably sometimes. Most times, though, give me the multiple angles.
  6. "By G'Quon, I can't recall the last time I was in a fight like that! No moral ambiguity. No . . . hopeless battle against ancient and overwhelming forces. They were the 'bad guys,' as you say, and we were the 'good guys.' And they made a very satisfying 'thump' when they hit the floor!" -- G'Kar Okay, there may be ancient and overwhelming forces in Taltos - Vengence, but G'Kar pretty much sums up how I feel about playing in dark fantasy games right now. I don't want to play Crusaders, but still want good guys Warlord has, IMHO, enough diversity in the factions to satisfy everyone's tastes. You have some vary effective bad guys (I really, really want to pound Overlords into the ground. It's just a thing), some truly white hats, and a decent mix of in-betweens. I will say that I think the Reptus need a few good models, and a special ability to allow their faction to overrule alignment. The Reptus, IMHO, were the old good guys. It is just that they are so old, that good has evolved to mean something else.

  8. I think that this is a great suggestion. The exact location should also be mentioned in not-yet-published books. I'd also suggest (though it'd be a huge pain for someone) that all published, but not yet sold books have a sticker inserted saying somethings along the lines of: "Please see www.reapergames.com/warlord/updates for the latest improvements and clarifications of the rules" I believe that Reaper's rep is rock solid for minis, and sketchy yet for rules.
  9. I see him as Herne How about Sean Penn as Eredain, and David Sedaris as Nirondel. He has experience as an elf already. Besides being allergic to Halle Berry, I'd like to see someone with more mest up internals as the Witch Queen. How about Helen Bonham Carter or Christina Ricci? Now, where to cast Jennifer Connelly? Senet Net'merew? Since this is a geek casting, how about Wil Wheaton as the voice of Fishrender? And Darthiir, sorry about the back
  10. Ah, for the time to do something like this. My idea of a lot of gaming, now, is one game in three weeks. I think it would be fun to mix up the scenarios. Once in a while it might be cool to toss in a week when all games are the parlay scenario, for example. I think it would be fair for players to play you if the following conditions are met: You are essentially a "bye". If a person does not have an opponent, he gets you A person can only play you at the same rate as any other player (only one bye per turn). A player can't rack up the points just by playing you.
  11. Ah yes, but Druid River, the water-aspected caster, can kill him with her brain.
  12. Welcome headache62. Of the factions that have multiple warlords, at two have 2 Warlrods - the Necropolis and the Reven. That these were the first two faction books may or may not have something to do with it. If the elves do get a third warlord, a spellcaster seems likely. It would be possilble for us to go the way of the Crusaders, with a dual class Warlord (Gerald and Prince Danithal), a specialist Warlord (Jehanne and Eawod), and then a caster (Kristianna and Ecwodidapsaatp*). * That's "Elven caster warlord of death, indigestion, dustruction, avian poop, slowness, and all things painful"
  13. I seem to recall E^2 saying that the new multipacks would provide a cost savings compared to the 3 pack blister. If the 3 pack generally broke down to $4.50 a model (A little less for Necropolis Grunts), the new packs would have to contain at least ten to make that true. For 40 to 50, I like to see 12 miniatures. There's no reason for this other than to be able to say "They're cheaper by the dozen".
  14. I love the name. I wonder if they were calling him "Eawod" before it was put here, on the boards. Love the stats.
  15. with edits The elves are our "high elves", wood elves live in the Woodspike forest, and grey elves (the ones that are left) don't have a homeland. Taltos is basically equivalent to Adon's middle east. Now that could be cool. Perhaps not a full faction, but a Leader, elite and adepts of grey elves that have adapted to a nomadic, almost Khermi-like lifestyle. I see them as Neutral, with the ability to integrate with either the Elf or Nefsokar factions. In terms of game use, I'm not so sure. Perhaps something like a deathseeker/dervish with throwing knives?
  16. I can see a special rule on the bottom of the Ealwod's (that's E.A.W.O.D.) card (or a faction SA) saying "This model may combine scrye shot and volley", if the rules are normally mutually exclusive. It seems clearly the case that the intent is for Ealwod to be able to lead a group of archers in indirect volley fire, without LOS being an issue. If it takes a special faction rule or card rule, I'm okay with that.
  17. What do people think about the Elf Archer Warlord of DOOM? In the general discussion topic, E^2 has put the cost at the low 400s. He'll have both Scrye Shot and Blazer, making him plus a cadre of archers the closest thing to artillery we'll ever need. The only problem is this is easily around 1000 points without warrior screens. I think that against my Crypt Legion horde enemy, it might be interesting. I'm not sure I'd win against his 4:1 troop advantage, but I might be able to demoralize sufficiently him sufficiently by dropping the pie plate into his deployment zone. I need to reread how cover applies to Volley. I'm pretty sure we don't have to worry about it because of sure shot, but I need to double check. I think that the bottom line on this guy will be: @ > 2000 points - very useful model. @ 2000 - borderline. @ < 1,500 forget bringing him. He is, therefore, appropriate to the title. Archer WLs of Doom shouldn't be cheap.
  18. I wouldn't like to see an increase in the number of siege weapons or similar added to the game. A human will in a turn will move ten inches at a full run. If ten inches equals about 60 feet (10 inches @ 25 mm=6 feet is 60 feet), and that a person moves at a full run at 4 MPH. This would be about ten seconds of time. A musket would get a round off every 6 turns. A catapult would be slower yet. On the other hand, I would love to see chariots, and Dingo Appledimple's cohorts. Or halfling chariots. :)
  19. I've used it infrequently to shoot around a corner.
  20. Since this battle report, I've gotten better with Lysette. I bounce pretty freely between her and Nirondel. To be honest, I think that the addition of Lighting bolt has greatly improved mages along a line. I've also decreased the amount of spells she carries. My opponent has gone the way of the pure horde. His typical army consists of Arzaphan, 3 or 4 Railors, and then skeletal warriors and breakers to get to exactly the point total. While I loves me my Death Seekers, I think they would get rolled against odds that overwhelming.
  21. Given the advice above, you may consider not having elves be one of your demo armies. While they look great, they are very fiddly. Undead and Crusaders will look good with much less effort. Full disclosure - I love me my elves. Just that I find painting all the vine work slow.
  22. I used an earth elemental, painted and flocked to look like a trent. (Actually, I use him as my tree-man. I've never painted up my tree-man).
  23. This seems a fine idea to me. It is refreshing to hear of a company making decisions that make it easier and / or cheaper for the customer.
  24. Interesting -- the model can't CDG, attack, and maintain the bonus. I gnerally like the idea behind the model, but I'm not sure about "Mob" as a SA. I don't picture groups of 20 of these fighters running around. It would also limit the disadvantage we have against Cav. Heavy forces.
