  1. I think it’s Monday, but honestly, losing track of the days stuck at home. Here’s some creepy pieces from the Bones 4 core set. A foreboding monolith and a tomb of souls.
  2. It happens a lot. Open them, wipe off the overflow, then it happens again the next time I use it.
  3. Howdy folks, I have a question I hope you can answer. Often when I open my paint bottles they overflow, like a big bubble of air is pushing the paint out the top. This is causing me to waste a lot of paint. it happens with all my bottles, reaper, army painter and Vallejo. I have mixing beads in them and store them upright. It happens when I shake them and open them right away or even if I let them sit. It seems certain paint ado it more, Metallica are a particularly bad for it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Got some chores out of the way and finished this owlbear from the bones 4 core set. I was instructed to use the 5e colours by my daughter, that d&d target audience marketing works.Enjoy, but please don’t try and pet it.
  5. Definitely getting more painting done with not much else to do. An ogre smasher sculpted by Bobby Jackson (hence the initials on the shield). Lots of character in this mini. Tried a darker skin tone with this mini and happy with how it turned out. Will definitely be using more variance in skin for future minis.
  6. Thanks for the kind words all. I only started with Bones 4 unfortunately, but looking back through previous ones it looks like they are in the Bones 2 core set. I ordered mine after, the sku numbers are listed in the thread title.
  7. Received this fun trap door mimic in a box of minis as a gift. I was informed it was from a KS by Galladoria Games.
  8. Howdy folks. Been busy with other life things lately and have not painted much in a while. Finally got round to finishing up these bugbears that have been in progress for far longer than I care to admit. Happy with how they turned out in the end and it was fun to paint again after a break. Enjoy. The whole gang. Definitely seems the leader type. Acting tough and pointing out stuff for others to kill. Really like the maul sculpt on this mini. I almost swapped out the axe on this one because I thought it might be undersized. Glad I didn’t in the end. Shiny gems on the belt. Still trying to improve on painting gemstones. great shield sculpt on this one. This guy had a slightly deformed mace and I didn’t think it was as imposing as the others so he got a weapon swap.
  9. Happy New Year! Here's some goblins to help you kick it off in style. They're a day late, but that is early for goblins. Individual selfies in the thread. Enjoy! I swear this guy is half-orc, half-goblin. He is huge and rather imposing. Lots of great little details on this mini. I'm assuming this gut saw a monk once and decided he was a samurai. Pleased how the armour turned out. Looks (to me) even better in person. Tried my hand at NMM on the sword. It is actually MNMM, don't tell anyone. The casting on this lad's eye was weird, or maybe it was meant to be like that. Either way, I decided he needed a cool scar more than his eye. His catchphrase: I shall spear ye no mercy. I like the gladiator look of this one. The only issue I had with all these minis was the chainmail on his face though. I just couldn't get it to where I was happy with it. And the last one. I think the swords turned out well on this one.
  10. Howdy! I decided to paint all 15 unique goblins in the Bones 4 core set. These are the first nine that I have finished. Still working on the armoured goblins. They were a lot of fun to paint and I was pleasantly surprised about the amount of detail and character they have once painted. They are some great sculpts and poses, but it was hard to tell from the unpainted mini. Group shot... Here's the the pudgy commander, or at least he thinks he is. The shaman and his pet spider. Fun to paint the spider and the robe. This goblin feels adventurous. Or he is just running away from home. An archer hiding in the (am)bushes. Had fun with the quiver detail. For the other archers in the same pose I think I will try and make some notched arrows. Goblins with shields, adds 5 minutes to their life expectancy. AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH! And finally, I call this one Rob Halford. Sweet, sweet studded leather for breaking the law.
  11. Howdy, My nieces and nephew have been asking to come over and learn to paint one weekend instead of playing D&D. This weekend we had our first painting lesson. I am by no means a pro, but I was able to help get them started with some basic techniques and everyone had a lot of fun, even Niece 2 who wasn't that interested in painting had a blast. I decided to use some old Blood Bowl orcs as I find the old GW minis have some nice simple surface areas for learning to paint. I did a weapon swap from some other bits I acquired to make them more fantasy and less football. There wasn't much on the mini to practice dry brushing, and their spiked underwear looks goofy, so I added some quick furs. We did the skin first, working on base coats, building up some highlights with glaze medium, and then washes for the shadows. For the furs, some dry brushing over a base coat and wash. And for the gloves, I had them experiment with the GW contrast paint just to see how it works. Considering 3 of them had never painted before, and Kid 1 has only done a few minis, I think they did an amazing job. In an effort to show them not to use too small a brush for each task, I painted my example mini entirely with a no.8 brush and no magnifying glass I normally use. Definitely out of my comfort zone, but surprised myself with the results. Kid 2 was having none of it of course. She still thinks minis are too small and annoying to paint. So she painted a pepper... I'll post an update after the next class. Not sure yet what to work on. I think I may get them to paint the shoulder pads in a colour, then do edge highlighting and scratches/expose areas with metal highlights and black shadow edges.
  12. One of my daughters, Kid 1, decided her next mini to paint was one of the yuan-ti from Bones 4. I think it turned out great. In related news, I like having all our minis on round bases with the black border for consistency. Was torn with this on, because it had the round 25mm (actually 26ish mm) base already, but was not very deep. I suggested she add another base, but I think it is too high now. Personal plea to Reaper, please, with any models that have incorporated bases; - make them in standard increments (25mm, 50mm, etc.), - make them the same height as your standard base, and - make them round, not oval. Thanks
  13. Can they add more to the pledge manager after the KS? I thought they did this with the barge? If so, no harm in keeping the $12 elemental scion pack (with 3) and creating another elemental pack with all of them with a different name at a different price point.
  14. Howdy, I painted up two beholders, one for a giveaway to one of my social media followers, the other for me. Decided to paint them as twins and I think they turned out well. Got a lot of practice with blending, and of course eyes, while doing them. Some thoughts on the beholder, as this was my first every WizKids mini after painting mostly Bones, GW plastics and metals, and 15mm metals back in a past life: Pros: The sculptor did a great job on this mini. Dynamic pose, some nice detail. Casting is decent, not too many mould lines. Cons: Preprimed. Ugh. The primer was really thick and a hid a lot of the fine detail, especially on the spikes. I would imagine on many of their smaller human-sized minis a lot of face and other detail would be tucked away under the primer. You can read about my process of depriming these minis here. The mini also came partly assembled. I would have rather glued it all myself and saved myself some of the putty work to fill gaps. This goes for all my minis. I am hopeful Reaper will continue the trend of less glued minis, like they did for Bones 4, and take it further and not glue/assemble anything. E.g. some of the batch of 24 goblins in Bones 4 (with the shields) were glued at the factory, and they are atrocious. Verdict: Removing the primer, only to have to reprime the mini, was a huge headache I don't want to take on again. It made me appreciate Bones minis even more. I don't plan on going with WixKIds again unless it is a 'must have' mini (like the beholder) or they stop priming them. Also, need to say thanks to @Doug Sundseth for his advice on taking photos of minis. Since I painted over the white background in my little light box with some grey tones, taking photos has been so much easier with better results. I'm planning to try some different greys and textures, but for now I am happy with the results. Hope you like them after that big ramble...
  15. Yes, I counted the dice as individuals. They (to me) are roughly the equivalent of a small mini each, maybe less, but figured I should break them up for counting, same as the 5 goblins, etc.
  16. Good morning folks! That was a wild weekend and great finish to the KS. Just wanted to start by saying Reaper are AWESOME! Such a great company, listening to everyone's ideas and requests, and making cool minis at an amazing price. I think there is something in there for everyone. Here are the final graphs for backers and pledges, and the latest value rating spreadsheet. I can update this once in a while over the next year plus as we get scale images and such. Adding the disclaimer again from before that this is all best-guesses. For those interested in the spreadsheet breakdown of the KS options, a few things: I made this to track what I wanted from the KS and started playing around with the relative value and value rating numbers. This is merely a rough estimate, and actual retail may (will) vary. It is also not indicative of each set’s worth, everything in this KS is a great deal, the true value really depends on what minis appeal to you. I have tried to parse out the minis by retail cost, and rearranged them by the D&D terms for base size. This is far from perfect, but gives a close approximation. Some of the larger minis are very hard to put a price on, the add on dragons could retail for 25, 30 or $40 in the end. The Value Rating is pretty straight forward, it is just the Relative Value (estimated retail) divided by the (Kickstarter) Cost. The higher the number the ‘better’ the deal. Again, the best deal are the minis you want, everything here is a great deal. If you see any errors, or note discrepancies in sizes I have assigned minis for each set, please let me know.
  17. I have not updated my spreadsheet yet if that is the one you are talking about. It has been a busy weekend with family and the little time I had I finished up some painting. Hopefully I can find time later tonight. If not, tomorrow I will get it updated.
  18. Latest relative value spreadsheet. This includes everything up to the 5 extra goblins in the core.
  19. Good evening all. Kicktraq seems to call it a day at 11pm EST, so here is your day 32 recap. We pushed passed the Bones 1 backer record and are looking good to easily surpass 18,000 backers. Let's hope that turns into a record last day, because we are going to need it to beat Bones 1 for pledges. Outside of the more unique late surge Bones 1, we need to eclipse the Bones 2 record last day of $590,727 by about $1,500. Not out of reach, but it won't be easy. Updated the value rating spreadsheet. Now includes the unlocked loot golem (Looks great!), chronoscope 1 and the ghoul queen pit. Here's to a great last day (19 hours)!
  20. Updated value spreadsheet. Please let me know if you see any errors or sizing discrepancies.
  21. Howdy folk, Here is the Day 31 update. Only two(ish) more days of chaos to go. We finally got the start of the late surge we have been waiting for. Hopefully this will alleviate worries we were too front loaded and we will beat all previous records. The backers record looks like it is sure to fall, possibly today. If past trends hold we will also break the pledge record of Bones 1, as long not too many people sit on $1/low pledges and wait until after the KS ends. Here is the latest spreadsheet for a;; the sets, add ons and boosters. For those interested in the spreadsheet breakdown of the KS options, a few things: I made this to track what I wanted from the KS and started playing around with the relative value and value rating numbers. This is merely a rough estimate, and actual retail may (will) vary. Ugh, don't get me started on them again. (Too late) Imagine Daimyo with: Goliath sumo barbarian Human/elf samurai fighter/paladin Tabaxi ninja rogue Human/elf/tiefling archer ranger Half-orc ronin ranger/fighter Dwarf/halfling ashigaru that could cover multiple classes. ...or just all human. And I'm sure others have even better ideas for race/class mixes.
  22. Ok, we're nearing the end, so here is a mid day 31 update, including adjustments to the core (+2 minis) and Brinewind 2.
  23. Good morning all. Day 30 is in the books. Less than 3 days to go now, things should start to move. Day 30 was ok for pledges, though we still fell short of Bones 4. Better news is we had more backers on this day than last KS. Hopefully a lot of new backers just putting in the base amount and getting ready to see what else they will add over the last few days. Based on previous Kickstarters we are still on track to beat the backers record, maybe even the total pledges if we can get this thing rolling a bit faster. I also reassessed the relative values fro Dark Depths and Greek Odyssey. Really hard to gauge the sizes and costs, taking my best guess. Edit: I should add, the Dark Depths expansion, even if I am off a bit on the sizing/pricing of a few minis, is an extremely generous deal. Rivals the core itself for value.
  24. Here is your day 29 and a half-ish update. Yesterday saw good growth and the best total since day 8. Late backers are starting to come in now. Gap in dollars to Bones 4 has diminished, but we are still on track to do very well. The day 30 graph is a bit misleading since we have more to come today.
  25. For those looking at the size of the ship, I did a rough estimate of overall dimensions based on the renders and the provided scale, and compared those to the Falling Star by WizKids. It is going to be HUGE. I also did an overlay of a picture of someone holding a WizKid ship versus a Reaper estimate...
