  1. I hope I don’t sound negative (because I appreciate any company that gives away free stuff) but:

    1. as someone new to the miniature painting hobby, I was planning on spending literally hundreds of dollars on paint sets and kits and figures and so on at reapermini.com over the next few months; but

    2. I only became interested in Reaper because of their Bones Black products; and

    3. I thought those products would still be available with the promotion this year (otherwise I would have tried to buy some stuff last year); so

    4. I’m disappointed that the promotion is now solely limited to items that don’t interest me; and, perversely

    5. I have started wondering if I need to get as much paint and figures up front as I’d originally planned.

So even though I hate myself for it (It’s free stuff! What do I have to complain about?) I think I’m an example of what PaganMegan was sort of alluding to in that a promotion can backfire and either slow or even cost sales.

I wish they’d at least have kept the last few months of Bones Black items in the promotion until they were rotated out. That’s what I thought was going to happen.

  2. Question regarding booking the hotel and classes:

Do you have to pay the full amount for each up front (at time of booking) or do they just take a percentage or something until a later date? If so, how much?

    Thanks.

(On the slim chance I am online if/when they reopen some rooms and classes, I’m concerned I won’t have enough in the bank until my next pay check.)

  3. ^ That’s what I don’t understand. How does something go from selling out over the course of a few months in 2019 to selling out in less than an hour the very next year. That’s an increase in popularity of about a million percent!* Has Reaper really gained that many new fans in the past 12 months?

I must admit though that I had never even heard of Reaper until I saw their Kickstarter for Bones V about 2 months ago, so I actually AM one of those new fans. LOL So maybe there are a lot more people like me out there than I realized? Curse us all! LOL

    * Maths may or may not add up.

  4. ^ That’s definitely the case for me. If it happens, this will be my first ReaperCon; but between the classes, VIP pass, travel and any on-site purchases that might tempt me, I need to get one of theses discounted rooms for it to be affordable.

  5. Has anyone from Reaper actually confirmed that there are plans or discussions to open a new block of rooms at the Hilton at the discounted price? Or is it just speculation among forumites at this point based on things that might have happened in previous years?

I need to know how much time I have to devote to monitoring these forums and Facebook and so on for a possible announcement or whether I should start trying to think of another accommodation plan.

  6. Well, I’m another who missed out on a room.

Did Reaper book a smaller block of rooms this year or has ReaperCon just shot up so quickly in popularity that what took months to sell out last time now takes an hour?

I’m also wondering if someone who’s stayed in the hotel before could let me know what goodies/freebies are in the bag/package that ReaperCon hotel guests receive?

That said, VIP swag bag is 125 extra and included the Meet'n'Greet ticket (could be purchased individually by 4 day passholders for $10).

it also included one of the pathfinder paint sets (Which one was random, but $99.99 value)

Wait... Wow! A whole Pathfinder Paint Set is included with the price of a VIP ticket for ReaperCon?! Was that a one-time thing or are Paint Sets (Pathfinder or otherwise) always included?

I had only intended to get a regular ticket but I might serious consider a VIP one now if I can get a Paint Set too.

(Are the contents of the Regular and VIP Swag Bags usually revealed to ticket purchasers ahead of time or are they a surprise on the day?)

@StarFyre You can add products to purchase to the pledge manager as many times as you want and pay for them as you do so.  Shipping costs will adjust for you automatically, too.  Your first purchase, no matter the amount, locks you in, so to speak.  Some people like to lock in early while others will wait for various reasons.  I believe for those outside the US, the lock in does not affect when their items are shipped.  In the US it does, or at least that's the way it worked last time.

Does anyone know how this works for late backers? Should I pay for something now (even if small) so that I can secure a spot in a Wave? Or will us late backers have our items shipped last no matter when we pay for our stuff.

The first set of "new" colors includes at least one color that has previously been a limited edition color at conventions (Carnival Purple); I'm not sure about the rest. I think the second set is entirely existing colors.

As to whether you should buy through the Kickstarter? You can get them (the second set, anyway) now at full retail or you can wait until 2021 and get them at less than half retail. Since many of the colors in that set are in my regular rotation of most-used colors, I'd say pay retail and get them now, but that would depend on what else you have already.

There are 2 paint sets.  Those two are in the "Foerster's Favorites" set, which are all regular production colors.  All of them are fantastic colors and I use about half of them regularly (I would presume Anne does too which is why they chose them)

Only the set titled "New MSP Paint Colors" are not currently for sale and actually 'New or previously limited edition' Those are

Carnival Purple - Believe this was a reapercon color

    Bruised Purple

    Ashen Brown

Black Indigo - these three paints were the reapercon 2018 triad

    Rich Indigo

Wild Violet - Not sure on these, think they were made to go with black indigo for another triad.

    Yellow Ochre

    Oxidized Red

Oxidized Brown - These three are brand new. Clear Earth pigments. Very excited for these.

    Orchid Purple

    Lotus Orange

Leafbud Green  - I beleive that orchid purple was a previously oopsed or urban legend paint Anne called 'Sexy Purple'.  Not sure if the other two existed before.

    Thank you both so much!

I get it now. I had been thrown by the listing that called them both “new” (and since I’m brand new to Reaper myself, everything is new and confusing to me anyway!) but now understand that:

    1. one set is “new” colors (or previously released limited release ones anyway); and

    2. another set is someone (a professional

painter?)’s favorite colors that they’re making available as a special group for less than their retail price.

    Still both tempting options then.

  10. I was just looking at the Reaper Bones V Kickstarter (for about the 500th time in the last week alone) and got confused by something:

Some of the “New MSP Colors” in the Options section seem to already be available for sale on the Reaper website. 09137 (Blackened Brown) and 09188 (Ultramarine Blue) are two examples but I’m pretty sure there are more.

What gives? I had planned on buying both of those “new” color sets through the Kickstarter but would I be better spending my money on something else if I can already get those colors now?

Yes... well... after few weeks averyone is asking for elves renders and they keep doing everything but elves, I'm starting being a bit nervous ::D:

I'm with you there. Why do they keep ignoring the elves when everybody wants to see them? Glad I've been holding off completing the pledge manager.

And even when you finally see the renders of the elves, you can’t be sure that they won’t just arbitrarily change them the next week anyway.

Not that I’m still bitter about the Halfling Sorcerer or anything. lol

I was hoping more to split the cost of a set,  but the lack of elf renders Cicciopiu points out has me concerned.

Ohhh. Sure. No problem. Sorry for the confusion.

  12. ^ I was actually thinking the same thing.

I’m getting some Elves (Golden Guard, Slayers and Shadows) with the RPG Booster set and would be happy to swap some of them for some of your Halfling Bows and Swords and maybe a couple of your Elves (Spears, Hexes, Crossbows or Swords) too.

I’m also getting some mummies (Shambling, Classic and Halfling) in that set and one of those crocodile men (can’t remember what they’re called) in the RPG Oasis Monsters set that I probably won’t have a use for, if any of them are of interest to you.

  13. ^ That reminds me, has there been a ranking of people’s interests in the Expansion Sets in this thread yet? I’m interested to see which ones are the most and least popular here.

    Here’s mine:

    1. Dungeon Dwellers: I’m new to Reaper and mini-collecting so this is a great opportunity for me to get a big selection of popular and useful figures all at once.

    2. Greek Odyssey: Greek mythology is a big interest of mine and these will be super-fun to have even if I never get to use them in a D&D game.

    3. Dark Depths: I’ve always wanted to play a heavily sea-faring based game and these would be perfect for that.

    4. Brinewind: Similar to above but loses points for having too many skeletons.

    5. Fan Favorites: A pretty much 50/50 mix of stuff that could be useful and stuff that I’d never unbag.

    6. Daimyo: I want to like this one more but it just doesn’t seem to have enough variety.

    7. Chronoscope: Cool stuff but I don’t think I’d get any use out if it.

  14. I don’t know if it’s just because it’s my first Kickstarter or not, but I’m having a lot of fun following this one!

It’s racing through the stretch goals and has a couple of really fun-looking ones coming up. I really hope it gets to a “A Dozen Shocking Betrayals”.

Here’s the latest update if anyone’s tempted to jump on:

    After lots of searching

    the base RPG pledge:

has enough elves to create useful encounters, has enough mummies to make my battle sphinx (current pledge)  less lonely

a few of the cool concepts like anubis & gorgons that would be fun to have.

add-on 1 elf hero riding a raptor of flying mount. 10/20$

    - but so many of each army unit I don't want.

and it would really tear into my bones budget.

leaving this here for further reflection.

I had the same thought process as you but ended up choosing the below set. The price and number of figures was more manageable and it offered a better selection for my D&D table. I just wish it could have swapped the halfling mummies for some gorgons or jackals or something.

So, I can understand about a concept changing being disappointing. Back during the original Relic Knights kickstarter, the one ran by CMON, they had a Candy miniature wearing a karate Gi. I liked the concept. It was simple, I had a plan to make a monk character for my pathfinder game..., Half way through the campaign, the concept art was taken down. I did not think anything of it as there was no reason to change the concept and nothing had been stated about a change... towards the end of the campaign they started showing a concept of Candy dressed like Chun-Li from street fighter. which is what they ended up going with... not what I wanted... But, on the bright side, all the minis came out mostly crappy anyway so I would have been disappointed no matter what... :(

As far as the halfling. I don't really see an issue, but... if you no longer like him, contact the creator. They may let you switch him out for something else.

Haha I’m glad you could find the silver lining with that Candy figure. I’ve bought a bunch of the other figures from this campaign though so I hope it doesn’t come true for this one.

I think I’ll wait and see if anything changes by the close of the pledge manager and then decide about this Halfling Sorcerer figure. As things stand though, I’m leaning toward asking for either my money back or a change of figure. They seem friendly so hopefully they’ll be OK with it.

I just wish Halflings were more popular characters for either/both players and painters and then there might be more people speaking up. Imagine the comments if the ‘Elf Queen’ figure suddenly looked like a 70 year old woman.

(Not that there's anything wrong with more aged figures. They’re great as NPCs. I just don’t find many players want to use them.)
