funded Reaper Bones 5: Enthusiasm and Commentary thread
Grumpy Gnome replied to ladystorm's topic in Kickstarter
Ah, thanks for that. I noticed there were a few sketches of larger models in the Bones 4 Kickstarter art book that never got made…. any rumor of those coming in Bones 6? -

Is that Dragon anticipated to be in the Kickstarter? What does the lighthouse signify? More Brinewind? Dreadmere? -
Great work, you really brought them to life!

Beautiful work Lord Dave. What make is that blue boat?

Lots to love in this thread. The campaign sounds like a great fun. Your Stygian Barge is inspirational. Your Firelock Games ship looks brilliant as well and I envy you getting it looking that good in only 3 hours. What model is that you are using for the Lich looking NPC with the Stygian Barge?

Brilliant painting! I have been looking for some giant wasps for Ghost Archipelago, looks like these will do the job nicely. -

I really love the sloop. It is an excellent kit that should do well in retail. Great details in the sculpt. Your painting of it shows off that excellent sculpting. And I would echo the compliment on the sail… nicely done!

It would seem you got lucky in Spain. Mrs. GG and I got a 50 Euro tax bill here in Germany. The quality of the sculpts generally exceed our expectations and we will likely add some things in the Bones 5.5 pledge manager opportunity. However, some things are more warped than we expected. I am hoping I can sort these out with hot water. And I think the ship would play better if the hull walls were connected to the lower decks rather than the upper decks. However, modifying it to do that is beyond my current modeling skills. Overall Mrs. GG and I are very pleased and look forward to Bones VI. -
Once I saw the teaser for these I knew we would want them but they far exceeded our expectations. Mrs. GG and I love the quality and character in the sculpts. Hopefully my brushwork does an adequate job of bringing them to life. More information and photos in my most recent blog post… https://thegrumpygnome.home.blog/2021/08/24/review-kromlech-dark-forest-scatter/ … but the TLDR is that we highly recommend these pieces if the aesthetic suits your project.

Your opinions on Dwarven Forge Terrain?
Grumpy Gnome replied to Grumpy Gnome's topic in General Fantasy
We were hesitant to buy unpainted originally because we read it was a fussy material to paint but we found it to be ok once we tried… and buying unpainted saves a lot of money, even if it then costs you more time. -
Our thoughts on the Battle Systems Fantasy Roads & Rivers set, although they could be used for more than just fantasy. https://thegrumpygnome.home.blog/2021/08/06/review-battle-systems-fantasy-roads-rivers/ We like the roads, especially after a couple minor modifications. What are your thoughts on them? And Battle Systems cardstock terrain in general? Mrs. GG and I quite like the Sci-Fi terrain but the Fantasy terrain has not caught our imagination the same way the Sci-Fi has.

I have not played Zona Alpha but I have heard a lot of good things about it.

I would suggest looking into Stargrave for the rules familiarity but if you want something different I would recommend Core Space from Battle Systems. I am a big fan of Core Space.

Your opinions on Dwarven Forge Terrain?
Grumpy Gnome replied to Grumpy Gnome's topic in General Fantasy
I have had only one problem on the DF forums (a personality conflict with another user) and it got sorted….eventually, and without mod support unfortunately. But other than that it has actually been pretty supportive towards my numerous questions. Ah, wait a moment, yeah there was that thread where I tried to get mould lines addressed and that was not the most helpful either. Still, the DF forums have been largely helpful although confusing to navigate. The delays on the Wildlands KS are painful but that is the state of the world these days. -
I really appreciate all the positive feedback, thank you!

Thanks for the kind words folks. I will admit I like how they came out but it is nice to hear that others like them as well.

I finally got my GW Fell Bats finished. We will be using these as War Bats in our Middle Earth gaming. There are more photos information on my blog if you are curious. https://thegrumpygnome.home.blog/2021/07/24/paying-full-price-or-nearly-anyway/
