Frustrated Father

Actually, no, we're really not. I welcome all sorts of miniatures on the site and in the contests and although I can't speak overall for the general crew there, I know from the judges (that would be myself and two others) that Reaper makes up a nice portion of their painted hobby product and more than a few special pieces have been done by them and showcased here (EricJ's Darkmaiden comes to mind off hand ..). Either way, the folks put on a good show and unfortunately as with all contests there are those that continue and those that don't and more than a few which I hated to see go, that includes ya'lls own special gal, PaintMinion. In this case though, Stub gets a pass through, which is great, as he manages to do 'big' pieces which really tell a story such as his first with the Dragon and the this second.

With the Halloween and Harvest season right around the corner, it is once again time to kick things off with, to date, our most popular contest, The Rotten Harvest! We've decided to return to a popular theme that we had last year about this time and will be making this a return event for some time to come, along with some other fun themes here later in the year. Fillet of a fenny snake, In the caldron boil and bake; Eye of newt, and toe of frog, Wool of bat, and tongue of dog, Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting, Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,— for a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble. The contest will run from September 24th through October 31st and during that time competition entries can be submitted. At the close of the contest, voting will commence for one week where you will be allowed to vote anonymously through the Wyrd forum software as well as leave comments and critique which we have found our previous entrants have greatly enjoyed. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest. The specific rules for the contest can be found on the Wyrd Miniatures website on the forums under 'Wyrd Painting Contest: Rules and Information'. I would really like to stress folks to read the rules, as folks tend to miss them for some reason and they end up misunderstanding the contest, the theme or disqualify themselves. Due to the sheer number of people that have entered unedited photographs in the past we will no longer do any editing for you. There are many free photo resizing programs out there. Wyrd staff will attempt to notify anyone who's pictures were deleted due to size or for any reason, but can not guarantee notification. The categories for the contest are: Witches and Warlocks: Spellcasters of all sorts, from high fantasy, modern day dabbler to the far sci-fi future. If they carry a wand, cast a spell or even have a hint of mysticism to them, this is the category for them. Not Quite Dead Yet: Still stumbling around after all the major organ functions have shut down? Have a beef with the living? This category is for the Undead, or as they like to be called 'Living Impaired'. Things that go Bump in the Night: Creatures, critters, monsters and other things that have a tendency towards anti-social behavior and prowl the night looking for victims. Caution, here be Monsters! The Trick or the Treat: This is our catch-all category as there are some miniatures that are just right for the theme but just don't seem to fall into any other category. Zombie Hunters, pumpkin characters and I'm sure several miniatures I never would have even contemplated. The Harrowing Harvest: A diorama with two or more miniatures locked in combat, or something as equally disturbing. Much like our last contests 'Deadly Duel'. Again we have been very fortunate with the number of sponsors that have chosen to provide support packages for the contest. Package came in Wednesday night or Thursday morning, wife wasn't sure when it showed up. She could have had it send out Thursday night, it would have arrived Friday sometime, and I could have had it for Saturday/Sunday. Frankly, for the cost of the POS system that I was picking up and for what was going on with it and the cost of getting it there and then having missed it for two days already, I didn't feel the need to have it. It was a rather nice little gemgaw that I was after that did everything right then and there, no entering in info late at night in the hotel, etc. Cost me some sales certainly, but in the end, that was how it was. Sales are done online as well so they can be picked up there just as easily. Next year I don't anticipate this problem, particularly as I'll have it months ahead of the convention season instead of the promissed ten days or so before we left (that was an interesting conversation I can tell you).

I've seen you hollering about this in several other forums Joe, sorry we couldn't accomodate you with the credit card, believe me, I would have rather have had it as well, but frankly, overnighting it and going from there was as much a bother as anything so the service was canceled. There has been a demand for this since I did the first TT contest and since it started up almost immediately again after announcing it again, I've made a change and added another category for you monster lovers. MONSTER'S BALL: Due to demand and the fact that we just can't seem to get away from folks want to enter male monsters, we've added this category. If its a male, and a monster of any sort (this will include everything from centaurs to wanged demons), then here he goes.

You cannot enter anything that can be defined as a critter or monster (no remote resemblance to a human), and that includes badgers, dragons, stone trolls, demons, skeletons (even if they have the proper amount of ribs!), etc. Although you could argue that the creature is male, that is for another contest down the road and I don't wish to mix themes. FANTASY: Sword wielding barbarians, magic casting magicians, deadly muscled assassins ready to draw you blood. If the miniature is pure fantasy, this is his category. SCI-FI: Gun blazing street samurai of the deadly future or weapon wielding aliens dancing a song of death or perhaps a steampunked necromancer plying his disgusting trade. A wide range of miniatures will fit nicely into this category. Once again we have been very fortunate with the number of sponsors that have chosen to provide support packages for the contest. HEh, great post Rabbit. Still, love the Dwarven Forge stuff - would have killed for it ages ago when I gamed (just started to hear about it when I got out of gaming).

I like this one. My only question is, are those scales/plates on his knee's part of his body or armor that he puts on? That's the only thing that seems off to me a bit. Like the albino look, pulled it off well.

It's amazing that ever got sold, much less part of a box set! I can't help but think someone was snickering the whole time when the box sets were going out going 'heh - they bought that!' I think with the right paint job you would have a stunner there! :D

Heh! It never ceases to amaze me when you hear about people trying to crawl up or down chimneys. What in the world could possibly possess you to think "Hey, I can crawl down that ..." Wonder what the statistic is for folks dying yearly due to this Darwin move.
