  1. Quick yet Deep.... i know how to peg Sci-Fi for Sci-Fi...the fiction element is obviously a huge consideration, as opposed to 'real' events, but see here. we have these following sub-genres: Ultra Modern Near Future when comparing that to some of the advances being made today, here, in the real world, it's kinda hard to reall say "is that undoubtedly the realm of Sci-Fi?" you see, compared to Jules Verve Sci-Fi, we are pretty much there. no Laser Guns or Heat Rays though...unless you want to count Microwaves or Neutron Bombs (theoretic n-bombs: no one is sick enought to actually build one...yet) and we've yet to conquer our old adversary Time. Compared to Star Trek, well we have Communicators (cell phones), but not much else. the source question being: how soon do you think our Modern Reality will have parallel elements enough to be considered a sci-fi type setting? (and at that point, will we have to post Modern in the Sci-Fi section? )
  2. to say the least, i do not post all heores here.... gracious thanks for another addition to the list. King David, yeah, that guy can clean house. but i dunno how historical he is...i know a cross reference of history would be good....
  3. Comfortable? let me say that at your level of skill you are not some 'noob who sucks but at least gets stuff painted'. you are good, and have potential. that gold-cloth worked rather well....i like. some consider me a good mini painer, but i produce alot of tabletop quality stuff unfit or public display. all in all, good show!
  4. WAIT, Wait...you are doing SWAT type dungeon crawlin', and he's got a bard? (LUTE PLUCKING, FRU-FRU PONCIE...?) bards are purely a roleplaying type class, with limited use in "The Crawl" (yes, one of you forumites may object, but tactically, there are better clases...he should have taken monk or melee-ranger for swashbucking...) it sounds like you guys don't have a roleplaying type game, more 'dungeons and mashing' than 'plot and drama'...so, the bard class he picked to be...funny? i dunno....sounds like he needs to play some other game than DnD... (Which is why i Roll L5R...best multi-use RPG in the world...but you gotta play an Asian Human.) hmmm... did he take combat related feats? if so...buy "Swashbuckling Adventures" and show him the feats, if GM says 'yes' to them. does he know when to take up a flank vs. take center? has he thought about being a second-row pinch hitter to your healing-possible cleric? ...situation can be salvaged...
  5. here is an answer from me, the alternate-realist: 1) any price is good, as long as your market is willing to pay. 2) as long as it is cheaper than 80% of the competition, you will still sell. 3) so long as mini-games don't go outdated...hey, any Japanese gamers here? any Koreans? no, and we all know why...Table Games have phased into very-limited niche in those countries... the U.S. is undergoing an interesting trend too...we are getting more technical savvy as a whole, and it's become common for EVERYONE in the new generation to be at least part geek...heck, i picked up my ex at the last matrix movie...and i would have placed her in the trendsetter crowd, despite her love of Robert Jordan. Video games are coming in as a fashionable alternative to being a TV/Movie junkie, and often parties enhanced with VGE compete in popularity with the typical fare of movies and strip-games. (yes, i'm talking about games AND parties not just in the same sentence, but in cohesion...) now, if anyone can pay $250 or so for a Game core system, and 20-50 bucks for game discs on a typical gen game platform ...and can play wargames for $50 in rules, $20 in dice and measures, and $200-500 dollars in miniatures, plus $50 for a full crafts set up on the bargain side... pick your poison. oh, and which has the better visuals? easier interface? but which one is fully customizable? easy to mod or change the platform it works on? yeah, pick your poison. right now, craftsmanship and fan base keeps mini games competetive with other forms of entertainment
  6. I die all the time..i have quite a few that were memorable, but one that is burned into my brain wasn't mine, but two of my players who decided to PK in a FREAK LEGION game PS: FREAK LEGION is an adult rated spinoff from the World of Darkness, so it's sick just to warn you all... the setting was post-apocalyptic middle east, and several packs of Fomori had coalesced on a trade camp iused by agents of the Wyrm. all was going well, until a certain pyroknetic redneck import (named Char the Napalm Boy, of all things...) decided to pick a fight with the mate of a Black Spiral dancer. the BSD got P.O'd and took on the Pyro Fomor... three combat rounds later one of the other PC's had decided to get into the cupola of a nearby technical and get the .50 cal Heavy Machine Gun locked and cocked, while on the ground said Fomor had coated the BSD in napalm. But, in Blind fury and about to die anyway, the BSD shredded his arm, threw him, and then proceeded to bugger the Fomor once he hit the ground...literally. having had enough our other PC opened a serious can on the pair with the .50 cal.... So, yeah....napalm covered anal boogie ends one full belt of ammo later. every one at the table was laughing, and a few didn't know if they were gonna make it after that....
  7. on the OKAMI figure: i like it...very inspiring , as i have a spare 'cullen and ashe'....we can then get the spiked chain pack and some bald athlietic guy with swords to make a figure for Kratos! staying on J-games, i should perhaps convert a Rikimaru... EDIT: just read th e full post (i insta replied upon seeing mini) You MIX your own enamels? dude, hardcore! thsoe things mix very unreliably. i've been a scale modeler since age 9. i know. mixes his own. yowza.
  8. Tre! your should'a sculpted that 2 years ago when i got a chance to play him! (seriously, didn't know either...!) and yes, it looks just like my old Gnoll Ranger PC...seriously! ...Edzir of Kagu pack of Nugent tribe! the old Chainmail mini had the hood, which my guy did not, and they didn't actually put armor on the archers. mine had a pair of chain shirts, which this guy does! (all i gotta do now is buy it and get some red for that mohawk....)
  9. Nazi Zombies? Reaper said something about possible Nazi Zombies..... Yes. I like what i see. and i think i may have to get a wolf for the hell of it.... Moose: miniatures, do you know where to find a gallery? i just see the four they have images of, and Wolf...
  10. yeah, i did a Corgi-models thing at one time with a dude who had several hardwire-networked Apple II's running a PC assisted flight combat game...pretty much our own system, with help from GDW/Twighkight 2K. our play surface was a 8 x 12 black hexboard, with plenty of undertable storage... ahhh..... good luck on getting game, i myslef plan to hit utah, montana, and colorado when i get a new (read: super-roadworthy) car, and game with nearby groups....and i'm in freakin' Idaho. the West...heh...
  11. i know we have afew fantasy players in Omaha, but i dunno historicals.... how far are you willign to travel for game? (this is why the US West sucks for some games...travel is often the biggest cost!)
  12. Hello all, Anyone have a big insight to the game scene (primary interest beig historicals/modernesque) in other countries? I know you find GW and MtG in every fricking place you go.. DnD is almost so... I know England is the grand home of Historicals Wargamming, and alot of H/M wargamming was either inspired from such or originates there. don't know how CCG's/RPG fare there..i know every video game i ever played thta originate din England bored me. (not Killzone. They're Scottish anyway:;):) Germany has a large denomination of Advance Boardgame Players and quite a few LARPers Does LARP still rule Scandinavia? i saw several LARPG sites for scandanavian game groups in the late 1990's most were fantasy based, but a few had historical side"games", more like mini re-enactments w/o specific battle I was told that, oddly, historical PC sims MMORPG's are very popular in the People's Republic... yeah, i can imagine it... or somethingb to that effect...it would actually be fun to play MMORPG's not based on click-and-level but skill...i mean, what would you do, have 7 generals get together to rush the palace at Xia Pei? why worry about leveling when you can just go kick some?...historical based would be the place to start that, eh? *floor is now open* *curious ears are listening*
  13. Polish folk do have a creative streak in them, willing to do what others have not! Cherrios to them for making the thing! PS: i once had a Polish pseudo-galfriend...she showed me alot of their modern culture. and progressive it is! i've also checked out their gaming scene. though GW does own a large chunk of it, you'd be suprised how many love Monster-Hunting RPG games and black magic medeival horror!
  14. Agreed! the manner of this man's death makes me rue the ease of this modern age... what a way to go! 1- throw precious phylactery among the enemy. 2-we all go see who can get it! majestic brass balls! *you have located a hero!*
  15. light a candle....hmmm...i like that..... yes, take the time to make the one-color areas into flowing fields of color...letting the light itself do the trick is non-recommended. shadow, tone variation, highlights, all of these things make single-color areas fun to look at. especially when topped off by a design...
  16. Whoa! i have seen more artfull stuff, but this is the essence of bad-a$$es!! i like how the clean execution and simple color scheme comes in synchrony with their attitudes! "Welcome to the Band of Iron. The first rule of the band of Iron is..." i also love to see this many fighter types! (be they fighters, monks, paladin, ranger, knight...whatever...) y'know how sick i am of 6utt-buddying with mages and thieves!?
  17. beautiful, lovely, vastly appropriate nomenclature for such a beastie!! all he needs is a few riders and a ballista and he's good to go!! Gold Star!
  18. True, these guys had some ruckuss in 'em... however, McClellan? as in, sat on his a$$ for a few days near encroaching hordes while he "tried" for a good strategy McClellan? as in, lost a ton of battles and had little problem doing so McClellan? as in, what Union general cound't have pounded his arse with harsh criticism alone...? Lars, do i have the right guy? no hero is this poor example of Union Prowess! Shibata Katsuie could kick his 6utt. PS: anyone know of any non-general/nobleman heroes...from any time period....how many Commonfolk/Less-than-General warriors come up as heroes? just a thought...
  19. that good? let me find Elrond, then i'll head over an' check it out.... Isildur
  20. unless you know of a dead one...very funny! ...especialy if ol' jack started having wierd dreams and splitting headaches...along with odd phrases falling out of his mouth at the oddest times...
  21. this man knows his stuff....a veritable fount of info and one helluva hobbyist!

  22. might as well post ... My Eldar have been aching at me for some time, especially after their serious facelift for 3rd edition...at this point, all i own is a squad of Warp Spiders (my color scheme is fluff acurrate, you HM think-you-are-so...who am i yelling at anyway? errgh..) , Exarch thereof, my Rangers, and Wa-De, the custom re-done super exarch my bud Dedros had when he played 2nd ed. Eldar....it's a rouge trader model too, not WH40K... it calls to me, but then again, all mini's do. sure, i'll buy Perry Miniatures or Reaper before i buy GW (i think i lost my LOTR addiction), but in the end, what kind of toy soldier do you want on your shelf? and do they look good? if you mentioned a thing and said yes, you are most likely gonna buy. i do like Citadel mini's post 2000ad. and some of the new units that were put out just look good on a shelf. one 'Ehrmintraut' once had a carnifex he kept just for show... Autarchs...hmm...... their minis, i can see. but i have long since given up being a slave to their rules! so, Lemme go check out this "Defiance"...
  23. I have it kinda sad, actually... 1st PC: a gold dragon fighter in "Council of Wyrms" 1st Monster: the ogres that invade the hatchery in the module... yeah...i know...it's like loosing maidenhead to the high school tool. my second PC was a fantastic display in a different group: Black Matthias: an Elven Psion (back when they were limited to 7th level, the ADnD rules...) i took him from 1st Lvl to 6th...very good days there. never thought of multiclass (he still deserves a miniature..) ----no monsters involved until a few sessions passed... they were Githyanki, and they acted less like mosnters and more like a raiding party...they actually ran from me once i attacked! after that PC i degenerated into RPG Killfests.... didn't actualy roleplay again until 1999, when i started my own group...
  24. argh, yes, you are right.... Richard the first was lionheart. see how much euro history i do? EDIT: I have also decided something: For list eligibility: truly agressive heroes must be at least 100 years dead or so by 2010, AKA 1910 at the earliest ones who fit the standard bill must have been dead at least 220 years by 2010, AKA 1790 on down famous yet somewhat peaceful- minded folk can be included as long as they have been dead at least 700 years or so, so 1300's or less would be the minimum requirement generally speaking, Older the Better....
  25. Rouge Trader got morphed into WH 40K so in a sense, it is still around.... of COURSE the rules are far swung gone! EDIT: lemme add this: i see alot of folks opinions seeping in as well as Reaper patriotism..not bad! i like to see this stuff, as your opinions are fun and patriots do us all good, but...it is a tangent. honestly, updates are good, stasis is bad in general. but as far as the game market and th elif eof games itself, let me say my two bucks: "do not undersetimate the power of the emperor, or suffer your father's fate, you will!" GW and WotC are churnign out tons of mediocre product and makign bank on it. their target audiecne has widened so that i really can't pin down a demographic, but i can tell you one thing: people listen to pop becasue that swill is what is on, so... being that it's what's on, they like it by HABIT. same goes fantasy that is well advertised and easily available. you can get DnD at Waldenbooks or Hastings, same goes YuGiOh and magic... GW is more limited in availability, but i have only ever seen one gamestore that DIDN'T have it... (Excalibur Games, if you are reading this, *smooch!*) in short, if you are loud and obnoxious, you will still get attention even if you are a fool. these guys are the pimps of the gameworld, and rule because of their advertisement to all takers... (PS: if you want life by fan loyalty, play historicals...) Reaper lives because it has been passively attached to WotC and the RPG market in general...good call! RPG's are not yet dead, nor is mini painting, but inflation and agressive capitalism can throw a rock in the lake of special interest markets...Change is coming, i can see a trickling in parts unseen by the average consumer...and it may be a lifestream or a destructive flood, all things depending. my advice: spend your money wisely. This company will only stay around as long as a multitude supports it.
