Well I wasn't planning on pre-ordering Dark Imperium, but apparently I can get it at 20% off with release-day delivery and go in the draw to win a prize pack which includes a copy of each of the index books, among other goodies.
Wife says it's fine if I sell some stuff to help pay for it...

I'm glad it's Nurgle. If it had been Khorne I don't know that I'd have been able to resist...
I'm of the opposite opinion; there's been so much Khorne lately, from AoS in particular but also Forge World, it's nice to see Papa Nurgle get some love.
Having said that, an update to the Khorne berserker kit would be great.

That is a improvement on the old design, the jump pack have always been described as a modular upgrade to the standard power armor.
That said I still find the Inceptors (I know it is meant as, the ones who begin, but the one who introduces are funnier "say hello to my little friend") to look rather wonky. No, they had those kind of Space Marines ages ago.

I'd prefer Eldar or Orks. But I figure they know what is most popular. the longer this pre-release hype goes on, the more tempted I am to dip a toe back in.
They've actually done really well in building up the excitement for this release in my opinion. I've been seeing lots of ex-players voicing the desire to come back to the game, myself included, and that's pretty impressive in itself.
I would be willing to bet that they'll release more cool boxed sets later on that focus on different factions and warzones, like they did with Death Masque or whatever the Deathwatch vs Harlequins box was called.

Well that's a little more than half the box I want no part of.
also are the jump pack guys in 3 man squads?
Looks like. Fits with Primaris Marines being elite units, I guess.

That's a sweet-looking starter set. I'll likely just stick with the indexes to stay with, but I don't think I can resist the Dark Imperium box.

As for HeroQuest... my good lady started gaming with HeroQuest when she was a bit younger than 7 - so I would say try it before deciding the young folks won't get it.
Yeah, I started playing HeroQuest and Space Crusade when I was 6 or 7, the rules aren't particularly complex. Roll two dice to move, in your turn you can move and do another action, roll skulls when you attack and shields when you defend. Pretty sure most kids that age should be able to deal with that.
Maybe consider trying to get a hold of Heroscape as well. As I recall it had rules for simple and advanced play.

I had a lot of luck with my Escher gang back in the day, and I don't recall then being particularly squishy.
My leader, Venus de Mented, was a crack shot with a boltgun but unfortunately lived up to her name thanks to a nasty head injury.

I do want to visit the USA with her in the future, but I'm not sure if Reapercon would be an option, since she wouldn't like it.
She likes my painted minis, but that's it..I doubt she would love to walk around a whole day there..
But who knows?
Just need a bit of give and take. You do ReaperCon, she finds activities to entertain herself while you're having fun, then later in the trip you do something that she's more interested in than you are.
Basically it's what my wife and I did, she picked out several nature activities to do and I got to go to ReaperCon (but the nature activities were still fun, and she also had a good time at the con).

True, and yet ...
Last year or the year before, wasn't there a Reaper forumite from Far Away who visited the US with family and was given a lot of advice like Don't Underestimate Just How Dang Big This Place Is and Well, Yes, But There Is A Whole Lot Of Nothing Between Those Interesting Points and No, Seriously, You Do Not Realize How Many Days Driving That Would Be.
That could have been me, I certainly remember getting all of that advice. But I had a GPS in the rental car, and I'm used to driving pretty much the length of the South Island here at home, so I'm not a stranger to long drives. I really liked the drive up the California coast (excepting the last bit where I got into San Francisco at 5pm, that was poor timing on my part).
As for events and cons, I'd like to go to any of the PAX shows, or Adepticon, or Salute, heck I'd even settle for going to Southcon in my home town because I forgot to get the time off for it. But then it's mostly wargaming tournaments and I don't have an army ready anyway.

I'm considering putting magnets in the holes of the bases and in the balls. Then I would be able to completely cover the base with grass.

Question the 16th of May: What is one type of food that you wish was more available in your local area?
Pretzels. Nobody really seems to do big soft pretzels over here.
That, and buffalo wings.

I'm actually considering building up a Blood Angels force, myself. I have the terminators from Space Hulk, as well as a bunch of scouts, so not an insignificant start to an army. The only thing that might put me off getting some Primaris Marines is the price, but even then a single squad could look quite cool.

Oooh, I just remembered the relatively new bagel place called Beam Me Up Bagels. Lots of great filing options, each one with a sci fi themed name, and a variety of bagels. Last time I went I had the Men in Black (with Cajun blackened chicken, you see, as well as lettuce and basil pesto) on a jalapeno and cheddar bagel. Absolutely divine.

Question the 15th of May: What is your most recent, favorite place to eat?
Two places come to mind, the Prohibition Smokehouse which does southern American style smoked meats, and the Manila Grill which is a nice little Filipino restaurant with good food and low prices.

Seems more fitting that assaulting troops should be able to throw grenades before completing a charge.

For my Genestealer Cult army I've managed to repurpose some old Cadians I had lying around for some 13 years using the Genestealer Cult conversion kit, so I now have a couple of neophyte hybrid squads, a Leman Russ, a magus that I nabbed in an online auction, and the Genestealers from Space Hulk.
Nota bad start, and I'm going to try converting some old plastic Necromunda figures into hybrids as well if I can strip the ridiculously thick paint from them.
Quietly wishing I'd jumped on Deathwatch Overkill when I had the chance, though...

I've only played once since the new edition came out, but I do enjoy the game and have several teams. The new goblins look pretty cool.

And we get new rules for
- Twinlinked doubling the shot could mean that chaos twin bolters effectively are storm bolters at long ranges and putting out a whopping 4 shots at 12"
- Blast weapons now more effective against single targets.
- Combi weapons are no longer a horrible choice
- Melta weapons; not as effective as before but it works against everything!
Should be interesting to see what kind of carnage a unit of Chaos Terminators are capable of.

As it happens, the offer I mentioned expired on Friday. Tough break.
This edition is actually getting me a bit excited, to be honest. Slowly working on a new Genestealer Cult army...

I bought a Crimson Slaughter codex from Amazon. 2 days after it was delivered I saw the news that a new edition 40k was coming and that all codexes would be null and void. Awesome. Money well spent.
I'm not sure if it's still going, but GW were offering compensation for people who bought codex books and rulebooks, including from independent retailers.

Question the 9th of May: All things Bones KS edition! Did you pledge for any of the Bones Kickstarters? If so, which one(s)? If you are waiting on Bones 3, do you have a storage solution ready for their imminent arrival? Do you plan on pledging for Bones IV? Can you ever have "enough" Bones?
I've pledged for all three Bones Kickstarters so far, but not the CAV ones.
I ordered faaaar less in Bones 3 than in the other two, only picking out a handful of add-ons that I wanted - I think I'm just getting the frost giants, yetis, two sets of hobgoblins, the non-human undead, the dwarf king's court, a Sophie, a DVD, and Talin's art book. Not much to find room for.
Bones 4 will depend on what's available. I'll pick and choose again, but there's undoubtedly going to be something that takes my fancy, especially if that lovely Conan terrain is available.
I know that there's always going to be more Bones that I want to get, but I don't feel the need to get "all the things" like I did with the first KS. I think I have "enough" of some kinds of Bones, like assorted adventurer types, so the core sets in the KS don't really appeal any more. On the other hand I want to get another set of frost giants at some stage to make a diorama of the Conan story "The Frost Giant's Daughter". So... it depends.

GW Announces WH40K 8th edition
in General Sci-Fi

The good thing about getting all of the index books is that you'll have a complete set of army lists that have all been balanced against each other.
I know that there are some people whose preferred edition of WFB is sixth with the Ravenous Hordes lists for just that reason.
