    scrapbooking

Most of the big name craft stores carry that stuff, Michaels, Joann's, Hobby Lobby... in a large metro area you may have a dedicated scrapbooking store. There happens to be one in Overland Park at Metcalf and 119th. Also, those three chains offer 40-50% off coupons regularly if you get on their mailing list or email list. I would suggest hitting a sale, as that stuff can get expensive fast. Also, Michael's and Joann's move stuff into clearance on a regular basis and it pays to look around for the corner where they've stashed it. Any of the stores is likely to have classes or scrapbook nights, just ask.

    Travel/airline question

Yeah, remember that you get 2 carry-ons free generally. A purse or "briefcase" (my husband has gotten through with a backpack also) plus your suitcase. I carry a large tote-style bag with my much smaller purse inside that. Then when I get to my destination it serves as a carry-all (I toss my paint case into it at Reapercon) I tend to pack a bunch of t-shirts and one long sleeve shirt or sweater in case it gets chilly. It's easy to change t-shirts as needed and they are thin and pack well.

    Travel/airline question

You might also play around with departure times on Monday. I have noticed that early flights (6am) are cheaper than flights at 9am or later. While it sucks to be up that early, if you are concerned with cost it might be a savings.

Yes, mixing them would be fine.

Getting in the mood for the Holidays...

Very nicely done. As for the eye, it appears that the one eyeball curves more than the other, making the dot of the eye show at a different angle than the other. Since we're seeing more of the dot, it looks bigger.

    Christmas Sophie '09

Very nice. If it is Bob's work I am sure it will be lovely. 28mm, 54mm or 72mm?

Very nice shading. You picked the perfect shade of pink too, lovely, and not garish.

Rough paint texture (and other) problems

A crust around the rim is normal. It will happen as the level goes down and the paint dries out from use. To find out if it is lumping up on you, get a brush full and spread it as thin as you can on a sheet of white paper or inside a plastic blister. Spread it around until you can see through it. Look for small soft strands or lumps.

Rough paint texture (and other) problems

Did you use the pro paint for the flesh? It looks almost like the paint has started to age. I have noticed the yellows are particularly bad at getting grainy, and that' what seems to be happening with that golden flesh tone you used. Everything else is smooth, so I want to say it's not your primer. The good news is, for tabletop use it will not be noticeable.

    Winter Contest?

As I posted in the halloween thread, I'd be ok with this taking place in January, so folks don't have to feel rushed through the December holidays.

    Halloween contest

Yeah, lived in San Antonio for a while, their seasons are 'Hotter than Hell', and 'What is this wet stuff coming from the sky?' For the record, I'm ok with a winter contest in January rather than rushing everyone through the holiday season.

    Halloween contest

Does that mean there is no winter contest planned?

    What do you use?

I'm fond of Magic Sculp. I find it easier to work with than green, and it air dries. http://www.magicsculp.com/

    Is Christmas coming too early?

Yeah, I like to wind down the season during the week after, too. I leave my lights up until Jan 6. The whole concept of Epiphany seems lost on people these days, what with the barrage starting in September now.

    Is Christmas coming too early?

    Local stations are now playing Christmas carols. Never heard them this early before. I'm sure they've started other places too. }} SHUDDER{{

    The World needs Heroes! OOC

And yet 3/4 of the group is dead. This is a sign to me that something has gone wrong with the running of the game. I think the spider group got enough from the first encounter, it left them with 1 dead, poisoned, and at low HP. They were running to get back to the road as fast as possible. It seemed pretty evident they'd learned their lesson. Those of us on the road are aware that we are in a dangerous place. And to make it worse for us we have no fighters in our group. Two mages, a bard and a thief and we went into combat , it's a wonder any of us lived because those chrs were not built to be the front line. To throw another encounter on them would have been cruel. I think you need to see repeated stupidity before chrs get punished. Killing them in the first encounter of the game, before the story has started, is pointless and makes everyone unhappy. You put so much effort into getting this game set up, why let chrs die before the real adventure begins? The GM's job is not just that of referee, but that of storyteller. It's a balancing act between making it challenging and making it entertaining, keeping the PCs alive (barely) and letting them reap what they sow. Like most things, it is something you learn through experience. And I admit I'm not a great GM, just fortunate to play with one who is. We went through this same issue a few years back with our group, deciding where to draw the line. I'm good with that. I hope our comments have been helpful, and that your games go better in the future.

I agree with points everyone else has brought up. I'll add that as a GM I thought you did a poor job of adjusting the game to character actions. I've never seen any rpg game go as planned, players always walk off the path, split up, and take actions you had not expected. A good GM can handle this and get the players back on the story line without making them feel railroaded. Now I know we split up and we deserved what we got, however, when it got to the edge you should have backed off (that would have been not throwing wolves on an injured party). I was ok with "challenging", it's no fun when the PCs get killed en masse, even if they were stupid. At this point (actually a while back) I'm ready to quit the game. It has not been entertaining watching characters die, and I'm not having any fun. On the positive side, I was fine with you going strictly by the rules, as I knew what to expect and how to play most of the time. I appreciate the opportunity to brush up on the 3.5 edition, as I was not very familiar with it. I also enjoyed gaming with the other PCs. Would be happy to game with them again.
