  1. In fairness to both thoughts, the Datacards were being constantly tweaked from the inception of CAV 1.5 on. In fact, those of you who have been around long enough will remember the great Ace/Ace pilot debate in CAV1. Point being, the best way to balance a game is to play it. I personally don't see the rules themselves changing much at all (thus the comment of the "game" being balanced), however, I'm sure the cards will be tweaked as hundreds of people play as opposed to the numbers that put it through it's paces. Everybody just breath deep
  2. That's what the last 2 rule book authors thought too. Both versions had glaring holes in them. edited to whom I was actually referring I thought that you were a play tester? Have things changed so dramatically in 2 years that the play testers don't know how the factions play? . The playing testing was very Terran and Rach focused, as far as models, to see if the mechanics were sound. The Datacards have always been in a bit of flux as things were tweaked.
  3. All direct fire weapons can be fired at once (GM having a Target Lock), All Indirect fire weapons can be fired (GM still requiring a Target lock) "Target Lock on CAV 03 (AP1) Then Firing GM's and both Mac Canons (AP1)." Roll for the GM, Roll for left side MAC, Roll for RIGHT side MAC. that is a total of 3 rolls. "Target Lock on CAV 01, then Indirect Fire with GM and R10" [using the GM as a indirect fire] Roll for GM, Roll for R10 Total of 2 rolls. Wait, so a Halberd could theoretically make up to seven rolls in a direct attack? For some reason I was under the impression it worked differently than that, must have misinterpreted a comment somewhere... In theory yes. In practice the RAV is kinda low on those lasers so I find I like to Salvo fire them for the extra bang.
  4. What mix do you use to thin the MSP from Reaper?
  5. Also, many of the special type abilities function differently so to balance forces some juggling needed to be done (IMO).
  6. Sweet. Those little bikes are tight. What is the significance of the funky bases?
  7. The issue I think I had with the glaze is that I was unsure of the recipe to mix it myself. I just thinned my original base color (dark elf flesh) with airbrush medium until it was about the consistency of water.
  8. So this is only my third fantasy fig ever. I have been painting for quite a while but it has always been battlemechs, CAVs, tanks, etc. I've been enamored with Song of Blades and Heroes and intend to use this for a warband. At any any rate, I'm fairly happy with it given my experience while at the same time realizing there is certainly room to improve. Thoughts are more than welcome as I want to grow. Some of this I posted in Show Off so bear with me if you have heard it before. Things I think I learned: 1. Eyes are a pain in the backside. These turned out OK I guess but I felt like I was more lucky than anything else with where my green pupils ended up. I'm not sure how I will manage on figures with smaller faces. Need to find a good tutorial. 2. Glazes need some work. Not sure I had my recipe correct. I felt like it helped the skin transition some but not to the extent I was hoping for. 3. If I want something to look rusty I can use a lot more ink. I used an orangy burnt sienna on the armor to tone it down and you can barely make out the difference. When I was putting it on it felt just right but after drying, meh, not so much. 4. The camera is unkind. I felt like this looked pretty good from a tables eye view but when I look at the pics I find a great deal to be critical of.
  9. I've used them as kind of an ink/wash.
  10. Update. I have almost finished this guy. Needs a dullcote and I think that's it. Things I think I've learned: 1. Anyway, as before any thoughts or critiques are appreciated. I want to grow. Thanks. *I can't figure out how to add an image to this post so the updated pic should be above on the right.
  11. OK. Help me out on the glaze. I used Reaper MSP Dark Elf Skin and then GW Badab Black wash, Dark Elf Highlight and then worked up to Dark Elf Highlight with a little white. What color would you suggest for a glaze and how do I mix it? Oh, and any examples of the rust technique?
  12. Oh, and the base isn't done. I just wanted to make sure all the painting was finished before tackling it.
  13. So I have recently become attracted by a Song of Blades and Heroes and decided to paint some fantasy Bones for the game. I really liked the Black Orc minis and thought they would play a good foil to my son and daughters warbands. That said, while I have painted battlemechs, tanks, and terrain for years, this is basically my 3rd fantasy mini ever so I thought I'd get some critiques. So let me hear your thoughts. I'm a big boy so don't worry about hurt feelings. I'm going for a little above average tabletop I guess. Additionally, I have no idea what color I should paint an orc's eyes so feel free to share. Thanks.
  14. Thanks for the help all. Managed to get a pretty good deal for one from the UK off ebay.
  15. IMHO Heavy Words is the best long fiction available for CAV. If you can get a copy it's well worth the read.
  16. I don't know if "fun" is the adjective I'd use to describe The Big Dance.
  17. Just as an FYI. I use Design Master floral paint to spray the bones minis and it works great as a primer. Lots of colors to choose from as well. You can buy it at Michael's.
  18. I find I'm fascinated by the Black Orc Bones figs so i plan a Warband using those. I'd also like an Elven one. Undead. I guess the typical tropes. Then I also plan to do an adventurers one. Then maybe a Fellowship with nine members.
  19. Am I dooming myself to failure if a warband only has a single shooter?
  20. Can anyone point me to or post some examples of their warbands? I'm just trying to get an idea of some balanced forces.
  21. So I'm basing some figs for SoBH but maybe want them to work for Warlord as well. What are the standard base sizes?
