  1. Thanks, all. This guy perplexed and frustrated me for a number of reasons, but he came together better than I had anticipated. Kang, not sure if I will do a WiP of this guy. I like doing those. It helps me learn and do a better job when I reflect on the process with a WiP, but time is tight nowadays. I've been stealing hours to paint in order to keep myself from going nuts between working full time and being a full time grad students. I had thought that I'd have no time to paint, but then I realized that while I couldn't paint entire units, I could paint hero models. Having a creative outlet makes things a lot better!
  2. I like it quite a bit. It came out really well. Nice work on the muscles. I think the pig looks great.
  3. This was a real challenge to paint. Comments and critiques welcome. Linked for excessive Slaaneshery. Needs its Dull Cote, then it's done. http://www.davidsummar.com/warhammer/warriors/donebanner1.jpg http://www.davidsummar.com/warhammer/warriors/donebanner2.jpg http://www.davidsummar.com/warhammer/warriors/donebanner3.jpg http://www.davidsummar.com/warhammer/warriors/donebanner4.jpg Next up. Mount needs a saddle and reins, though. Me no know the Green Stuff. Head from a Cthulu pack I found at the Asylum, then the Fly Demon is from Reaper, and body from GW. This guy ought to look pretty kick butt. I hope to do him justice.
  4. Ooh, I like the denim. Looks like, well, denim!
  5. Thanks, LadyArgent. That's the basecoast. Here's what I got done today. Highlighted the armor with RMS Honed Silver and True Silver which did help. Banner is done. Only my third attempt at freehand, all of them banners, so I'm fairly happy. It's an improvement over my last attempt. Not terribly complex, but it's a good step for me. There are things I like and things I don't, but I'm to the point of cutting my losses on this model and calling it done. Will have to touch up the banner joint, paint the base, affix the boob monster to the base somehow, and then start the killing! He doesn't fit terribly great on a 25 x 50 mm base, but the serpent coils bend up so that it doesn't look too odd and should work ranked up next to another model.
  6. One to the banner. Went to the Asylum today to get some advice. The Paint Monkey gave me some tips. I don't have much freehand experience, so this is tedious work. I think the worm on the banner will be done starting with the boobworm's highlights and mixing snow shadow and ghost white in. So whiteish from the worm's highlights. The banner will dark, using the same colors as the worm mount which are the dark elf triad. The worm mount was glazed with indigo, red and blue mixed heavy on the blue. Maybe I'll tint it towards the red this time for some contrast. The black in the circle will be done with pure black and the stone triad, to match dude's cape-pants things. Hopefully I can do this thing justice. Tough paint job, really pushed me.
  7. Great job. I love the face and hair!
  8. There were some classes last year. Things are less formal, and you just show up and pay on the spot. It's a smaller event so you get to interact a bit more with people. It was fun, and for people like me who are mainly interested in painting and less on the games and such that go on at ReaperCon, it's a nice event.
  9. Long time, no see, Reaper dudes and dudettes. I need some advice on one model. I'll have to link it since it's a bit of a Boob Monster. There's also a Nurgle sorcerer I did last weekend. Firs, the book monster. This has been one of the toughest models I've ever painted. Color choice, handling the model, assembly, painting angles: a real challenge all the way around. I gave up trying to blend some areas and relied on over-applying washes to cover up bad brushstrokes. I do and don't like the fin on this thing. One side looks much better than the other, though in the end, it looks kinda decent. What do you folks think? I need some advice on this thing, it's been a tough one to paint. [linked for excessive boobery] http://www.davidsummar.com/warhammer/warriors/worm1.jpg She needs to watch her tan lines! http://www.davidsummar.com/warhammer/warriors/worm2.jpg http://www.davidsummar.com/warhammer/warriors/worm3.jpg http://www.davidsummar.com/warhammer/warriors/worm4.jpg And then the nurgle dude.
  10. Looks great as always. Have you done this mini before? I could've sworn I'd seen it and even remember a discussion about the plaster looking kinda thick and how you sculpted the door curlicues out of green stuff. Am I just going crazy?
  11. Thanks, all. This model was a real challenge, and I had a hard time with it. It was a bit of a rush job, something I wanted to finally get done for someone. I should've done the scarab beetles differently. Anyhow, I'm more or less pleased with it. I hope my buddy will like it.
  12. Yeah, just wash and rinse the models like normal, prime, paint, and enjoy.
  13. Painted this for a friend's Tomb King army.
  14. Shazam! Looks great!
  15. Nice work, Pez. Sorry to hear about the mishap. That must've really made your gut sink at the time. Hey looks terrific. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Denton resident here. Downtown Denton, on the square, can give you plenty to do in the evenings. Coffee houses, interesting restaurants, music. You could easily stay in Denton, drive to Reaper, and have fun in the evenings here. I35 traffic is the pits, but chances are you won't be driving in it during rush hour.
  17. I'll be there for classes Sat and Sun. Will drop off my painting comp figures earlier, but really can't hang out until the weekend.
  18. Thanks all. I really like the model a lot. Prep and assembly took about as many hours as painting did....whew! blakbuzzrd, I like the crystals, but I'm taking Angela Imrie's class at Reapercon so I can really spiff them up and learn what I'm doing, instead of making random lines. I appreciate votes and C&C. http://coolminiornot.com/248615 http://coolminiornot.com/248616
  19. Okay, here are better pics, this of the finished model. The movement tray is made from cork. I think having the cork extended over the side is a mistake. I'll break off from game play, needing constant touch up. Sigh...
  20. Ooh, I got four. I'm surprised they were still there. Painting with metallics, weathering effects, gems and crystals, and painting white & black. Ought to fun, looking forward to it after missing the con last year.
  21. I get a lot of mileage out of the stone triad. And all the liners, especially brown and grey. Tanned skin works great.
