  1. Probably, but she only has a couple of Varisian tattoos and doesn't wear the extravagant dress either (in fact, she usually just wears her armor). She also prefers city life over a nomadic existence, but has been kind of forced into it until she can make some money "adventuring"...
  2. You beat me to my "Elven Hunting/Phase/I'm not a Displacer Beast" Cat...
  3. I've been bad. I'm in the middle of moving, so I'm eating lots of fast food and drawing down on some of the bad foodstuffs I had at home. However, I am down to 210 pounds (according to the scale at my new place), so busting my butt moving stuff must have worked...
  4. Its hard to look tough driving a diesel VW beetle. I know this for a fact. You know, VW did make diesel Jettas...
  5. Glad I haven't painted up my RotD minis for demos yet. Procrastination pays off! Will the new bases will be available for those of us with the old bases?
  6. Good point, get yourself some editing software. Even if your husband has been having trouble grasping it through reading a book, he may have an easier time learning it by actually doing it (and even if the final result is not exactly what you want, you still have something). There is cheaper editing software available other than FrontPage, if you're not sure you want to drop that much money just to try your hand at it (I like the cost of free myself, I used free HTML editors to teach myself and get basic coding done). Ah, I was always taught to avoid frames as much as possible, but I'm pretty sure she is looking for something in the style sheet vein. I didn't think it would be very hard to do, since I've seen things like that on some websites.
  7. You could have let some rampant speculation happen before throwing a wet blanket on it...
  8. YIKES! While I wouldn't immediately balk at the $500*, it sounds like he only knows some basic stuff and still wants to charge you the big bucks. I used to make websites, only the "always on top" thing sounds remotely complicated (but probably isn't really, if I had kept up on coding). *A real professional should code the page so that when you want to do more with it in the future it will be easily updated and cost far less money then (and unless the newer versions have gotten better, FrontPage was notorious for bad, BAD coding). They may also have suggestions and options that you have not considered. That is to say, you should get "value added" services for the premium price...
  9. I'm surprised none of our resident photoshoppers have worked their magic on it yet...
  10. Having worked as a delivery driver, I can tell you that "real maps" can shaft you as well. I had to replace my exhaust after taking a shortcut that turned into a "Seasonal Limited Use Highway"*. With no place to turn around, I certainly wasn't going to drive in reverse for 5 miles. Hyundai Accents are not off road vehicles... *Yes, as a matter of fact it was the middle of winter.
  11. Well, if your perfect rating is important to you, he can screw it up if he wants to get back at you for calling him a thief (even if he is one). You're probably better off trying to see what the Post Office can (will) do for you (but don't hold your breathe). Consider yourself lucky, I got scammed on eBay in one of my first transactions (as a buyer) and have been scammed a couple of times since then. eBay doesn't really care, unless you can raise a real stink...
  12. Nice. Do you have a side by side with your Previous Toolbots? I seem to recall them being at least slightly different...
  13. Excellent work as usual, Mr. Lettucehead. I hear tell something called Leather Deglausser works without melting them, but I've never been able to find it - much less try it. After an attempt using Acetate on an Axe Sister (you newbs!), I have given up trying to get under the skin of DDMs...
  14. A shotgun should take of that problem though... I've always thought an underground house would be cool as well.
  15. Stupid quote limits... Despite the tactic of redefining a Drawback as a Hurdle, they are still Drawbacks until they are overcome... It's easier to shatter the current establishment. That involves hurting the people who have been supporting you. This seems easy enough, except that the current publishing formula works for a lot of companies and, more importantly, most programmers would probably rather work for a company that can afford to pay them a better salary than most game companies can. I agree that POD could be used to a much higher extent than it currently is, there is a long way to go though... I think you are underestimating the costs for high quality POD printing presses... For Miniature Games or RPGs? There are still players in Rochester, but it was much easier to find players when there was an actual Warlord rulebook. You can't just walk into the store and find a game anymore (unless you get VERY lucky)...
  16. Well, you said it yourself - "some" want it. Is that enough for it to be profitable? It hasn't been yet. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Army Builder for planning? That is completely different than what you have proposed. You did notice I said I was going to be overgeneralizing? The fact remains that once you head down the primrose path of using computers to do the 'dirty work', some people won't want to stop... I don't agree, but really this point is moot since nothing currently exists that fits the needs of gamers. It bypasses the costs of printing, holding, and shipping. There are still development costs and the need for profit. What it mostly does is transfer the costs to the consumer (for the electronic device or the printing). See above, but also note Heislers list of PDF games that didn't encourage more mini sales. Again, I don't agree. I've used a laptop for gaming (both D&D and while playtesting Warlord), it's not any easier or faster to me. Once I know where a rule is in the book, I can find it with relative ease. Is this a big issue? Is this really going to get a lot of use? With all the paranoia about 'big brother' watching you, I doubt that people will want their program phoning home and telling developers what areas of the rules they have accessed. If it's not automatic, I don't really see many people emailing in during a game. I can get behind this, but it could just as easily be something posted on the companies website to be accessed before game rather than during a game.
  17. The first thing that comes to mind is "This way leads to madness". Bear with my gross over generalizations here... Tabletop Miniature Gamers are tactile. We like holding and moving little metal (or plastic) men (and women) around. We like to turn the pages of books. We don't "trust" all electronic formats. After all, if an electronic rulebook is better than a print rulebook, wouldn't it follow that electronic minis are better (and cheaper) than those that you have to actually paint? And easier to store than the ones that are already painted for you? Sorry, I apologize if I just sent shivers down your spine... The second thing that came to my mind was, take away "mini games" and this sounds somewhat like the DDI. Considering the fiasco that the DDI is currently (missing most of it's promised functionality months after the launch of 4.0), what makes you think smaller companies could work together to make something better? The DDI is focused on promoting a specific game, by an industry leader. If it was being produced by multiple companies, how many chefs would there be trying to add their own "special ingredient" to something that was supposed to be an "Industry Standard"? Industry Standards are hard to set unless you're the big dog and (while I'm sure there would be some) I don't see many smaller companies cuddling up to WotC (who is already attempting to kill their own 'industry standard' OGL for RPGs - and has killed their d20 license) or GW. That leaves this niche market waiting on the rest of the computer world... I see very little upside and a large potential downside for miniature games going to an electronic format. Going the POD route is also fraught with issues of it's own. What about the hapless FLGS? Sticking yet another dagger in their hearts doesn't do much for building the future of gaming (or is "support your local game store" just lip service?). Something needs to be done to include them in the 'supply chain' of POD products if there is a real concern about saving them (I have suggested allowing game stores to print out PDFs to sell before). Quality issues can raise their heads, I've seen a mixed bag of POD products (additionally, the "flash" that Gimp talked about was lacking). Lulu seems to be the current "industry standard" for gaming POD, but they are a joke (or not even on the radar, not sure which is worse) when I talk to my fraternity brothers who work in printing (i.e., professionals with degrees in the printing field). POD has potential, but needs to be done a lot different than the way it currently stands. I had hopes for a POD service set up by gamers for gamers, but both of them I've heard about had serious issues (and one was apparently near criminal).
  18. Where does the expression "Bon Chance!" come from? I had never hear it until a couple of days ago and now you're the third person I've heard use it... Yeah, I looked it up, but it still strikes me as odd that suddenly people are saying it left and right. To stay kind of on topic, I give you this...
  19. Well, in addition to this being a family forum, he did say they tried - indicating that they apparently failed to actually show anything...
  20. Dr. Who? Nice job. Jim, according to the title of the thread, it's a Heresy Mini...
  21. Since the new Gnolls are Tre awesome (pun intended)... Have I asked for an unarmed Gnoll Monk yet?
