  1. Hmm, so which Goblin is Karyn attacking?
  2. My "first" was the Shadow Corps Dwarven Mortar Crew (minus mortars)...
  3. The swear jar works pretty well. While I do have some "customers" who refuse to pay up (oddly enough, the ones who spend the least, hmm...), it has even cut down their swearing. I also haven't had to defend it, other customers have done that for me - a little peer pressure works wonders. I do have one kid who is on the edge of getting the boot though, but then he was skirting the edge before the swear jar. I don't enforce the swear jar for random new people, it's more for people hanging out so that my store doesn't become a clubhouse. If they're new and swearing up a storm, I take their money and usher them out as quickly as possible. And I did have a couple of random new people in this weekend who I swear were baiting me to shake the swear jar in their face...
  4. The thing is, I actually talked to someone who told their kids to avoid the store without knowing anything about the store... I'm sure not everyone who pulls their kid away from the window thinks the store is "evil", but I have had people tell me that this rumor is constantly spread about the store (and admit that they themselves helped to spread it). Oddly enough, if they actually knew about Magic, it would be offensive to some people, since in Magic you "are" a magic-user. The thing is, the woman I talked to who thought my store was "evil" thought that because of D&D, which is noticeably absent from my front window... And in another ironic twist, it IS a new video game... And I also sell video games, just not new ones.
  5. Why is keeping someone from swearing in my store akin to some idiot who doesn't care about customer service? I'll argue that at least trying to enforce a code of conduct makes a store a more welcoming place to hang out. FWIW, swear jar, day one: $6.25. And it cut down on the swearing IMMENSELY...
  6. To be fair, as a parent, I've pulled my child away from many a shop window for more mundane reasons - like not having to hear "Dad, I want that?" or some variant, often followed by whining and screaming. It get's old hearing the whining, real fast. True, but it happens quite a bit... I used to have a CAV and a Warlord poster in my front window...
  7. If no rules are posted, people you crack down on will complain they didn't know the rules. If they're going to be a jerk with posted rules, they'll be a jerk without them. I think more people appreciate posted rules, since I've been thanked by people for posting mine. Sure, people will complain and try to skirt the rules (or whine after outright breaking them and getting yelled at), but they know what is expected of them. If you try to skirt the rules, I'll be even more harsh with you when you do break the rules. I actually forgot the last lines of my posted rules: "In other words, don't be a jerk or you will be asked to leave. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated." Fine print for the Rules Lawyers...
  8. I'm lucky if I can make it a couple of days without needing to shave again...
  9. If only. I've only had one person mention it to me, but I've also seen people drag their kids away from looking in the window...
  10. It's just a stand in for a gun anyway. I had a player who used one and it may as well have been an carbine - right down to the "ka-ching" he used to denote he was out of bolts and "ejecting his magazine"...
  11. People have been spreading rumors that my store is satanic, all because I carry D&D. It's still out there - and I live in New York, not exactly the Bible Belt. Part of the rumors started because the guy who owns the antique store across the street wants to buy my building (he's a "pastor"), but it didn't take much for them to grow a life of their own. I ran into a lady walking her dog the other day who had been spreading the rumor, she was surprised to find out that D&D was created (partially) by a Christian and based on books written by a Christian (so she said she would research it on the internet to see if what I was saying was true)...
  12. FWIW, my posted game area rules are... I should institute the swear jar thing, since too many of my customers are foul-mouthed heathens who fail to even realize they are swearing half the time (or they just play dumb, I get a lot of "Really!?" or "What!?" responses). I'm also thinking of adding "with soap and water" after "please bathe", but "the same day you come to the shop" would probably be a good addition as well. Did you manage to get enough M10?
  13. That boy needs therapy... The #4 song on WBER back in 2001, beating out Weezer's Half Pipe (yeah, we edited the title of the song) by 2 votes. Weezer's video has Sumo wrestlers...
  14. Actually, even though this one is sometimes referred to as M10, it's replacing 10th Edition as the core set...
  15. Maybe you can wait them out? With such crappy advertising, they may not be in business long. I once had a phone number which transposed the first three digits with a drug use hotline...
  16. Although I knew about minis and had a few from back in the day, as well as some (including a couple Reaper minis) that my gaming group used, I wouldn't say I was really hooked when I first "came across" Reaper. Then this "kid" (he said he was in his late 20's, but after he left the group most of us figured he was still in his teens) that I met from the Wizards boards and started up a D&D group with brought some minis his sister had painted up to game. They looked pretty sweet (at least at the time, no primer and not even basic blending and shading on them though) and he said she had just painted them up quickly, so I figured I would give it a try. Luckily, of the few that my FLGS (Comics, Etc) had on the shelves, some of them were Reapers. Thanks to my addictive personality, I was hooked - eventually joining Froggy on the local BL team and now running my own store selling them (Dragon Snack Games, naturally). Now if I could just addict more of the locals to painting... What's the product number of those!? I see what you did there...
  17. There is no such thing as "too many hot wings"... Happy Birthday Bryan, gorge thyself with wings!
  18. Meh, it wasn't even a year old, that's nothing. You've got a ways to go before you beat out FranktheDM for the title...
  19. As a player in Froggybrothers game, I like what I've seen of Sundered Skies so far. Of course, as a player, I haven't digested the whole enchilada just yet (we just made Seasoned last session).
  20. Since you want to get technical, you didn't even say that... Which doesn't change just because there are cheaper DDM goblins and bugbears. If you're not buying the line because of price, then you were never the target audience. There were plenty of cheap DDM goblins and bugbears (or rather, Orcs and Skeletons) out when the line was announced and at the time DDM was coming out on a regular schedule of 60 sculpts every 4 months. WotC was more of a threat to the LE line then than they are now. But that ignores the main point of my reply then, doesn't it? Reaper knows what they are doing. I wish they had gobs of cash to throw around and could risk kick starting LE with 50-100 sculpts - including Townsfolk and Dragons (while they are printing the new Warlord book), but the reality is they don't. My collection is full of DDM goblins and cheap toy spiders (in other words, this release isn't for me either), but I know that Reaper reads the Minis We Would Like To See threads and I know they produce minis from them (the Bathalian Pirate was probably my fault). I'll be satisfied with slow and steady growth of LE, I've gone without Townsfolk for this long that I can wait for the line to mature.
  21. http://index.rpg.net/pictures/show-water.phtml?picid=1174 There's also this article from the WotC site about Gygax mixing stuff up... Just because he wrote a line in the DMG about not mixing it up doesn't mean he followed his own 'advice'.
  22. Thanks for the ideas, hopefully I can find someone decent. But keep them coming if you know of any more!
  23. Did they break you or have you always been a Cardassian? Fixed it for you (relevant lines at 3:15)...
  24. I say include them, but make them rare. Satisfies those who want them in, while allowing those who don't a way to ignore them (usually). Expedition to the Barrier Peaks?
  25. Apparently, but I may be a little bitter... Haha, I had a friend that this happened to! He ended up marrying her though...
