Thoughts on 4.0 now that the fervor has died down a bit
Dragon Snack replied to SIGIL's topic in General Fantasy
Then don't give this poll credence (notice my number didn't match up with this poll). EVERY poll I've seen runs the same 60% approval rating for 4.0. It's easy to write off a poll if it doesn't show what you want it to, but when every poll shows the same thing... BTW - What happened to 'no wrong way to game'? Why does everyone have to play 4.0? -
Thoughts on 4.0 now that the fervor has died down a bit
Dragon Snack replied to SIGIL's topic in General Fantasy
Speaking as someone who not only played a Teifling in 3.x, but also has a Teifling in their current group (that I DM) and is considering playing a Dragonborn-esque character in the next campaign (it will be Savage Worlds Sundered Skies) - I totally agree with kristof about not liking Teiflings and Dragonborn (not to mention Eladrin) in the "core books". When everybody is "different", nobody is... As for my thoughts on 4.0 itself, it didn't disappoint. It looks like it turned out exactly like what I thought it would be. That's not a good thing for me or, it would seem, 40% of other D&D players (judging from other polls and ignoring people who said they would play other systems in this one). Tell me how splitting the base is a good thing? This is where I think WotC made their real mistake though. IF D&D tanks, it will be because of the DDI (not the ruleset). Huge development costs, making it so you don't have to buy the books themselves, and only one or two players per group signing up - OUCH... -
Wal-mart worker crushed beneath bargain hunter stampede
Dragon Snack replied to Frankthedm's topic in Off-Topic Rampancy
Well, since the "actual retail price" of my TV was $798 (what it sold for after BF), I basically "made" about $100 an hour by waiting in line for it. I wish I had the first ReaperCon Sophie myself, but I certainly wouldn't pay $50+ for it. -

I lined up at Wal-Mart at 3 am to get a 52" TV for $474... You were saying? -
Hardcover Warlord Playable As Is?
Dragon Snack replied to lead_and_brush's topic in Warlord General Discussion
Razig was not in the core book. He was pdf cheese. Not that I'm bitter or anything... The other thing in the core book to look out for was the siege weapon (I think that's what it was called) in the 'generic' datacards. IIRC, it basically gave you a free Fireball every round. I think the generic cards were taken out of the second printing though, so you may not have to worry about it. I prefer the expanded range of minis, but the game is definitely playable right out of the book. -
And I would have guessed red for your fav color as well...

What was your favorite course in college?
Dragon Snack replied to rgtriplec's topic in Off-Topic Rampancy
I guess I'll have to say 'Intro To Economics 101', since it's the class that suckered me into the Economics program. But, quite honestly, I can't remember any classes that were particularly "fun" (even elective or gym classes)... -
I have a problem with not only tests, but the whole US education system... And I was Valedictorian of my HS class... And this is better suited to Beekeepers (where I won't participate)... But I've felt old ever since I realized that I could drink with people who were born when Reagan was president... I ain't... Same here, and I was in college in the late '80s/early '90s. I didn't log in remotely (although I could have), but everything was computerized even in those dark ages...

One game only? Savage Worlds, because it is so versatile. But I would pine for D&D 3.0 and GURPS as other RPGs and Warlord for a TMG. I already miss the Axis and Allies board game, since I have nobody to play it with me...

CAV faces? CAV fingers? -
HOLY THREAD NECROMANCY! This thread is 3 years old! This is not a Reaper sculpt. IIRC, this is something that Peter Lee had made up and sold himself... Oddly enough, he is actually now involved with WotC's DDM line.

500 a DAY!? I've never even gotten more than 15 a day, other than the one that was hosted by GoDaddy - who apparently compromised/sold my address almost as soon as it was created (and unfortunately it was associated with my DJ domain)... Unfortunately, once you get on a list it's VERY hard to get off of it (them).

In the past I suggested Reaper make a pdf available to LGSs that they can print it out and sell (or give away) to customers. We get a new pdf 'rulebook' for attracting new people, the LGS get a new revenue stream that helps sell the minis (or at least a value added product, if they give it away), and Reaper gets to give Warlord a shot in the arm without spending the upfront cash on printing*. Win, win, win. Sure, you have to trust that stores won't leak the pdf and kill sales for a when an actual rulebook comes out, but the end consumer could do that anyway... *This, of course, assumes that since we have not seen more printed rulebooks for Warlord (or CAV2), that rulebooks are not a large enough revenue stream for Reaper to justify continued printing of them. It could be that they are waiting for RotD to go to print and that they will get a deal for printing all 3 rulebooks at once (yeah I know that's not how printers work, but hey, I can dream can't I?).

Yes, she would be Reaper's "Spokes-Succubus"...

I use New York Central Mutual (for both auto and home). Judging by their name though, they're probably a regional insurer... I've never had a homeowners claim, but when I got rear-ended coming back from Gen Con a few years ago the guy also happened to have NYCM. While there was no way for them to deny the claim (since he hit me from behind while I was stopped), they cut me a check before I even sent them the paperwork back. I also had a previous agent, who they were dropping, tell me that they were a good company to stick with (meaning he lost me as a customer). The homeowners policies are pretty close to what I've found from other companies, but their rates on auto insurance are hundreds below every other place I've gotten bids from...

Well, it wasn't me. I gave him some Arachno-archers once, but we never did face them...

Actually, EGG wasn't a fan of WotC. 4.0 or anything else... Meh, as I thought, 4.0 is not for me. Completely reinforced when I got to read the books (but then I was paying attention to what Mike Mearls was posting, so I wasn't surprised). -

I'm holding steady at 210. Not really eating better, but I have to take the dog for longer walks in my new neighborhood. *knowing smile...* -
Nice, never heard that expression before. Yes, for those of us who have been paying attention, they have constantly claimed to be "improving" the quality. All you have to do is look at the last set (those minis above actually ARE an improvement) to have your doubts about that... While I agree with you, I have to stick up for poor Shoe. WotDQ wasn't bad - it got us the Stirge, even if it was rarer than an actual Rare (and I like the DDM one better than the Reaper Stirges). He also got us a Gelatinous Cube (although I skipped on it). He got us more mounted minis as well (which lots of people requested). I think his biggest problem was he lost heart in it (you could tell at the DDM 2.0 announcement Q&A he didn't want to be there). If you talked to him outside his "official spokesman" role though (which I got to do at Gen Con '06 and '07), he was pretty animated. I think Shoe's a good guy who just didn't have the power to do what he wanted. Notice or study? Being one of the "exceptions" you mention, I see a lot of people who hit the middle of your Venn Diagram. Any numbers you can share?

Minis we would like to see (Fantasy version) Thread Seven
Dragon Snack replied to ladystorm's topic in Reaper General & Faq's
I love it when people request songs that are already coming up in the log. Must be the same thing when people request minis that are already in the que being sculpted... -
I don't even need the press, I want it! I won't turn down the $400 though...
