I...I...I...holy crap.
It's deja vu all over again, isn't it? Only this time I don't have to spend several days being converted to Bones. I come preconverted this time, and eager!
When I left for work this morning, the Kickstarter and this post were at 0. I got home around noonish. I blacked out for a bit, and maybe hit some buttons or something, and apparently I'm in for wave 3. *stares at the five thousand unpainted minis* Help.
Sure, I'll help enable. Happy to. You're pretty cute, for an eight-legged bloodsucking carnivore.
See, the secret is that you need to pledge more. Then it'll all be better. You'll feel good. Some endorphines will release. A nice glowy buzz. Then you won't worry about the unpainted ones, because all you'll see are the new ones.
And that'll be groovy, baby. Real groovy.
You are the wrong kind of help. It's so bad, but it feels so good.

Wow. Color me impressed. And do it with a 0 brush, in a week.

I would start with Linen White as a base, which is a warmer off white, then highlight generously with Pure White, shade with Golden Blonde, and maybe the thinnest line of brown liner, or Walnut Brown as a shadow, in the deepest recesses. Or, I'd probably mix a touch of one of those with the golden blonde, to get the deepest shading. But I'd be super careful with the brown, and use it *very* sparingly, so as not to muddy the purest white.
For myself, I'd have gradients of Pure White and Linen White mixed, ending with the final highlight at Pure White only, and same with the Linen White and Golden Blonde, I'd step it down gradually.

So far I've found the best narrators are those that do voice work for radio tv and animation..people trained as voice actors. Surprisingly Urban Fantasy has some of the best Narrators going Marguerite Gavin,Luke Daniels,Khristine Hvam, and Oliver Wyman are some of the best in the business.
From the same genre, I'll also mention James Marsters, who does a brilliant job with The Dresden Files.
Oh yeah, great narrators, and I've got a voice crush on Marsters. I also like Kate Reading Simon Vance, and Anne Flosnik a lot. At first Anne Flosnik got under my skin, but after listening to the whole Kushiel's Legacy series, I have to say, I love her style. I like Davina Porter, too. George Guidall, too, rubbed me the wrong way at first, but his voice is kind of addicting.
I did notice that the narration on these D&D books was a little, erm, generic, but I'm happy they're doing it.

Great. Now I want to paint them too. Sooo many projects!
Here's my vote for Molly, since we're converting. I'd take out that gun, and put in a wand, or some kind of spell effect, I'm thinking of her "portable rave" with a little explosion or something, if it's doable. She's kinda edgy, and I love the pose of this piece.

I like this guy for Butters, too

If this guy could be modded, the coat and hat are perfectly Dresden. I'd have to shave off some of that hair, and put a rod and staff in his hands.

Nathan Fillon as Dresden, period. I'll think harder on the rest, and edit as I come up with them.
Edit: Damn, using Reaper minis.
Alright, I'll go look for a Nathan Fillon look alike.

I had a friend that called scimitars "skim-tars" so, I feels ya. I really do. We used to play a lot o Magic: The Gathering, and he always had SKIM-TARS in his decks. ALWAYS with the damn skim-tars.

HAHAHA omg. I know some people that might even listen to that... I mean, not me of course, er.
I'm still laughing at glaive-guisarme.
Well, at least I'd know how to pronounce it.

Audiobooks are a little more expensive, but I subscribe to the site, and get credits, discounts, and sales each month, makes it a little more affordable.

I'd imagine it would be a lot of futzing around with fast forward and rewind, haha. "Move to 11 minutes and 39 seconds if you choose to go in the cave. Move to 14 minutes an 45 seconds if you choose to explore around the outside."

Ok, not a million, but like, a few hundred! Lots of old old TSR books from Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Eberron, among others just turned up on Audible this morning...

My inner nerdy thirteen year old just fainted. (ok, maybe not so inner)
They're not all there, but there's enough to keep me busy forever. Talk about nostalgia. I don't know if a lot of you listen to audiobooks, but it's what I do when I paint, pretty much. Oh, this is so perfect, all these old D&D books, and the Bones coming soon. I'm so inspired!

I have like, maybe a dozen unpainted. I'm so ashamed.
The first step, is admitting you have a problem....
That's gonna change pretty soon... I got the Vampire + every one of the addons.
The second step is adding to the problem
The third step is just giving up any sense of self control.
Oh, looks like I'm firmly on the right track, then.

You have my deepest empathy, and condolences.
This is a good place to come, and sort of feel a little more normal. I lost my stepfather at the end of January, after a really hideous autumn (he'd been in the hospital since September, we lost pretty much everything to Hurricane Sandy, he and my mother lost their home too, among other horrible stuff...). I avoided pretty much anything gaming/painting/mini related, because my heart definitely wasn't in it. That's why I disappeared from here for months. Upon returning a few weeks ago, I realized my mistake. I think it would have lessened the impact of everything if I took some time for myself, and to pursue my interests and be involved here, because it's everything you mentioned. I imposed some kind of weird austerity on myself, like I shouldn't be having fun, my life sucks right now, and therefore, I think I made it suck harder. Does that make sense? In a weird way, there's healing here, that's my point.
Anyway, we're all here for you. Glad things are stabilizing.

Coming to the forums really helps me. Looking at your WIP and Show Offs. Also, I go on long spans of playing games, like WoW or Guildwars, and suddenly I'll get obsessed with recreating a character, or some concept (for those familiar with World of Warcraft, I'm about to undertake a whole Scarlet Crusade scenario, maybe with a diorama in front of a cathedral, like the one in Tyr's Hand).
Sometimes, all it takes is sitting at my table and looking at my stuff. I keep an old laptop up there, and I'll just sit at that table and surf from there, next thing I know, I've got mini in hand, and I'm dotting paint on the palette.

Skeletal Archers:
You can see that the one front left has an incompletely molded base. First I've seen of something like that. That would be enough, in metal, for me to hassle Reaper about a replacement but with Bones so long as there's enough for him to stand on his own then I'm content to throw him into service.
Still weird, though. Also, I'm not real fond of how these guys have no lower jaw. I think it makes them look a bit funny. But, overall, they're not bad.
It's ahtsy.

Dude. I hate pumpkin beer too. And most other ghastly pumpkin confections, but for real, Pumking understands us.

When Pumpkin Ale season comes back around, do yourself a favor and seek out Southern Tier's Pumking. It's the best of the best. It doesn't taste like pie and spices, but a warm, brown sugar squashy appeal. My all time favorite, and highly rated.

See, I wouldn't have thought splattered. Before I read your commentary, my first thoughts were "ooh, cool color choices, very unique, eldritch. Nice transitioning. I like the glow, and the unusual lighting effect"
So, go with it. To the rest of us, they look great :)
