  3. If it makes you feel better, I get self-conscious about teaching a lot of my classes too! I feel like there are so many better painters out there (even in areas of painting that many consider to be my strengths), and so it can be hard to feel like I'm bringing appropriate value for the money. NMM? I have sort of an old-school style that is not as realistic as many of the modern Euro painters. Blending? Rhonda is even better at it, and I learned from her, so doesn't that make her class better than mine? Similar thoughts abound for any other class topic. At the end of the day,

  6. Wren covered pretty much everything (and probably a bit more) that we would go over in the class. The biggest tips I have are all essentially echos of Wren's advice about being unafraid to be sloppy where it does not matter in order to accomplish what you need to where it does matter. Stuff like painting a stripe for the eye instead of a dot can be huge if you have a hard time with the brush control/vision to do a perfect dot. Unfortunately, within minutes of me posting, I got an email from Ron letting me know that he needed my class submission ASAP, and I wanted to default to something I considered one of my strengths, so I asked for a Faces and Eyes class instead. That portion of the miniature just adds so much, so I'm hopeful it will be a useful and interesting class! Thanks again!
  8. Hey all! I'm thinking of dropping my Exotic NMM class this year (since I've offered it like 3 years in a row) and doing something new. Would there be any interest in a color shift class? In other words, we would talk about how to transition between vastly different colors through both blending and textures. Or, if that does not sound interesting, what new class would anyone be interest in seeing from me? EDIT: I didn't realize I needed to get my submission in so quickly, so I did not have time to wait for everyone's feedback; sorry!

If people really like it, I was thinking about potentially trying to sponsor some type of team competition award for ReaperCon 2020.   10. I personally tend to work in 2.5- to 4-hour blocks dispersed between weeknights and weekends. However, I have found that I generally cannot get motivated to paint more than two days in a row, so (even if I am super invested in a long project) I generally paint two days, take a day or two off, paint two more days, take a day or two off... and repeat until the project is done. At that time I tend to take a longer break. The hardest motivational thing for me is to get that first bit of paint on the mini. Once that has transpired, everything gets better! Lastly, I try to

My actual freehand is not that good! Thanks! You are not wrong; those areas don't read as SENMM as well. With the helm, that line of rivets actually interrupts what would have been my prime horizon reflection area, so I was unable to fit a nice wavy horizon reflection what it normally should go, and therefore the effect doesn't sell as much.   13. Okay, so I apparently had a brain malfunction and totally missed his belt buckle! Consequently, while I was touching that up, I did some minor tweaks and FINALLY conquered my camera and got some good color out of it!

  15. It was a momentous night for us as not one, but two of us finished our minis! First up, Tish's amazing hedgehog! The little guy has tons of sweet details and fun textures! Next, it's my stalwart otter! The camera is still robbing him of some contrast even with my full picture setup, but these are at least better than the last pics. (And I'm vain, so there are probably more pictures than necessary )
  16. I usually find that one quick help for this effect is just to paint some of a ground color on the top of the cup. But, even then, as long as almost any white is showing anywhere else (such as his primed sword blade) I still think I'll have contrast troubles. But, all in all, I'm really not worried as I should be totally done with the mini in one more session and able to remove him from the cup entirely before taking much better pictures!
  17. Okay, so I can't get a good photograph of it, but my SENMM is now finished! I've done SENMM a number of times, but this is definitely my favorite attempt so far! I'll get some better photos once I erase all the remaining white primer as it is really throwing off the contrast. (As is the giant white painting handle!)
  18. Okay! I've been sick this week and therefore not very good at either painting or posting, so this will be a mega-update to catch up! First, Rex is now the very first to have finished his mini, and it is truly awesome! Next, Tish has been adding some sweet detail to her hedgehog bard! Now he has some pinstriped pants! Erin has been super busy on both her kitty and the base! And even I've managed to not be a total slacker and start painting again! Here's how ugly the early stages of NMM loo
  19. Rex has been getting still more done, but now I'm sick, so I'm falling behind and off of my self-imposed schedule. Look at all those awesome textures! I'm going to have to up my game with my remaining armor; maybe some highly-polished, reflective SENMM armor will give me the technical challenge I need to keep up!

  21. At the end of the day, they will be permanently attached directly to the base. No one will be able to split the party! That's a really good idea, but I don't think we're going directly for any elemental differentiation.   22. Hi all! It feels like it's been forever since I last posted a new WIP project, and for that I'm very sorry! Too many of my projects recently have been (by reason of release schedule) shrouded in secrecy or just quick tabletop paints, so there hasn't been too much to show. However, last ReaperCon, a few of us artists had a fun idea, and Jim from Dark Sword Miniatures was more than happy to help us out with it. Our idea was to do a collaborative project where each of us would contribute a single adventurer to a party on a unified base, and we all picked some DSM critters to work with! I pic
