    System Check Email

Draagnaj, That was a System Check email to basically make sure the address was still valid. There's been no shipping confirmation that I'm aware of since ReaperCon. As you mention above, the available information suggests that Reaper have one container still in transit, and your order includes several items that are waiting on that last container to arrive. The last we heard, it's due to arrive at Reaper around Tuesday, give or take. Does that help? This clears it up perfectly - thank you.

    System Check Email

Forgive me if this has been answered already - I am getting a little confused. I recieved my system check yesterday for the following order: Vampire x2 $200 Fire Giants x1 $10 Frost Giants x1 $10 There Be Dragons x1 $15 Demons x1 $15 TownsFolk x1 $5 Deathsleet x2 $20 Clockwork Dragon x1 $15 Red Dragon x1 $10 Spider Centaurs x1 $10 Fire Giant Warriors x1 $10 Nethyrmaul x1 $25 Kaladrax Reborn x1 $10 I recognize that there is no reference to when these will ship out. I was under the impression that there were parts of my order that are still on the last shipment that is currently on the water.. Is this the case? If so, what is a rough estimate that we are hoping for the last container to be in Tx? Thanks.
  4. I've thought about this as well. Just finished remodeling the bathroom with Travertine and had some left over; the only issue is that they are thick - 1/2". What I may do is use them a dungeon pieces though - they fit perfectly between Hirst Arts based on 1/4" MDF board. I have thought about the Hirst Arts as well, but having a dungeon made of the same mold just seems doesn't work for me. I'm still caught between round vs square - I'm going to wait until they arrive to measure everything out and see if I can get them to fit on rounds. One advantage of the bones material is that you can reset the feet position to hopefully allow them to fit on a round, while still keeping to effect of their stance.
  5. Thanks for the response. I have a sample of the 3mm; it is a nice base, but feels a little bulky. I might just have to base up some larger 4x4 bases in the 1.5mm and see how they hold up. Regarding the round base, that is the same thought I have; i just really like uniformity. Bascially, all round or all square. Maybe I will just wait and see what they look like when my pledge comes.
  6. I have been going back and forth between circular or square. I have a dozen or so different Reaper humanoids that I have been using to test. While most will fit on a 25mm round, there are a few that overhang (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/paladin/latest/03292#detail/03292). Because of this, I think I might have to settle for square. I have been looking a lot and think I might go with Litko bases; primarily because I can have the same base at 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 1x2, and 2x3 for relatively cheap. The only concern I have with plywood bases are with warping. I don't suspect at 1 inch or 2 inch that I will have an issue with the 1.5mm plywood, but I am a little worried at the 3x3 and 4x4 inch. Have any of you tried the 1.5mm plywood at 2+ inch base sizes? I had thought that perhaps going 1.5 mm with the extra strong magnetic base could prevent warping, but wasn't sure. Any thoughts?

    Dwarven Forge Game Tiles

I was curious if anyone thought this would hold its value in the 3rd seller market. I am contemplating picking up a few sets to check them out and see how they work with the hirst arts. However, if I find I don't like them, are they something that would be hard to unload since they don't really have the collector value that the resins have?
  8. Just a heads up if you are looking for stone... Just talk to your dentist. They should have a rep like Patterson that can get Excalibur die stone. I get it from my supplier for $50 for a 50 lb bag; I don't recall what a 25 lb bag costs. You will want die stone over dental stone for the nearly double compression strength; cost is only a few bucks more. Shipping takes 1-2 days. And if you don't have a dentist, that should be a bigger concern for you ;).
  9. I was just wondering if any of you could check this before I pick this up. I have a portable compressor similar to http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-C2002-WK-Oil-Free-Compressor-Accessory/dp/B000N5UHK0/ref=sr_1_49?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1363236567&sr=1-49&keywords=craftsman+air+compressor that I was planning to use. I don't mind if it is loud. Should work fine? I was debating between the badger 150 ($60) and badger 150-2kr ($85). learning curve aside, will I want the finer point down the road? I plan to use it for miniatures from vampire x2 and a 2 large warhammer armies for my wife and I. I I'm also planning on a cleaning station and 10 ft braided hose. I will have to look into those mixing cups posted a few lines back. See anything wrong? Thanks for the help.

    Question about a custom base

A local shop isn't really the best option for me. I live in downtown Los Angeles and the closest place is about 45 minutes with all of the traffic. As for pinning them down, do you have a link that shows how to do that? I'm not quite sure what exactly you mean by pinning it. Thanks for bringing up the concern though.

    Question about a custom base

Thank you for the replies. I like the idea of a nickel, however after thinking a little more, I don't think it will work for me. When I decide to start making monsters for future games, I won't have any bases that will match for a large creature size. I looked at michael's today, and although they were out of 1 inch round wooden pieces, they did have 1 1/2 inch size that I liked a lot. I was thinking it might even work to use this (http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Accessories/Pages/ProductDetail.aspx?pid=615) and make a nice inset platform. What online stores do you guys order your flock and other simple scenic materials from. I'm basically looking to take my cut mini and epoxy it to a wooden 1 inch base. Take the base and apply glue and add flock and pebbles. Perhaps some of them I will sculpt tiles onto the base to simulate a cobblestone setting.
  12. I am new to the art of mini painting, so try to be easy on me. My experience with painting has been with some of the learn to paint sets. From them, I feel I have a grasp on painting minis to tabletop quality. I love what reaper produces, and am hoping to use them pretty exclusively with my tabletop games. I just ordered 15 minis to use as PCs, but would like a little advice before I get into painting them. I like a lot of uniformity to my games. Being that I ordered some dark haven and some pathfinder minis, they all have different bases. I like the idea of reaper making them tabletop ready out of the package, but I would like them to all have the same base. I have no issues with using a jewelers saw to remove the mini from its base, but I am wondering what bases out there you guys use. At this point, I am not looking to do scenic bases; perhaps somewhere down the road I will come back to that. But what bases do you guys use? The metal bases seem to be a little expensive for me. I'm leaning more towards a round 25 mm base, like DDM are on. I had considered using dental stone (not plaster) to sculpt a base and make a template from, but after further consideration, I feel like it wouldn't be very durable for a table. I was reading the sticky and saw that some people use 1 inch wood rounds; have you tried this? Thanks for looking.
