  1. What would the contingency be? I suppose it could be sent back undone only to sit on the shelf of even deeper shame. OR and this is brutal, the painter could be required to paint the miniature gray and mount it on a plinth as a statue. We could farm it out to yet another painter who will swear they can finish the thing. But then if they also fail, it would sit on the shelf of eternal shame. buckyball
  2. If we are going to try this. We should do it sooner than later. There may be a Summer mini exchange, and we should be done before that comes. So what I propose is that we have a sign up that generates a list of participants. Each participant will send a single miniature from their unpainted backlog (sometimes referred to as the shelf of shame) to the next person on the list with the last participant sending to the first. Then the painters will have a set amount of time, like 3 months to finish the piece. After they are done the painters will return the painted miniatures to the owners. The only rule I can think of is that the miniature you send can't be larger than an ogre or a human figure in 54mm scale. It can be a mounted 28mm miniature, but nothing bigger than that. It would suck to have to paint a huge 5 headed dragon for someone else, while getting a 25mm goblin painted for yourself. Another rule, or guideline is that the miniature has to have been sitting waiting to be painted for more than 3 months. You cant run out and buy a miniature that you had your eye on for this. It has to be something that has vexed you for some time. The figure may have been started. As a matter of fact it probably should have some paint on it. There is nothing worse than starting and not finishing a figure and having it sitting there month after month. What do you guys think of these rules/guidelines? Is there anything you would add? buckyball
  3. I think the key to painting terrain is pretty much the same as painting any gaming figures. You have to let your needs dictate how you paint the figures or terrain. I had two core boxes of Tablescapes terrain tiles from their initial kickstarter. I needed to use them with Dwarven Forge tiles in my Rangers of Shadow Deep game. So I found paints that complimented the drab slightly bluish gray of the Dwarven Forge terrain Speaking of terrain here are links to a reaperminis terrain piece I finished recently https://imgur.com/4lcR9a0 https://imgur.com/WkxTzmw buckyball
  4. The tricky thing here is that the more participants, the more the parcels would have to travel. That runs into some money. If it was just sending one miniature out and returning one miniature it is still double postage. But that would be manageable buckyball
  5. My stay at the convention is Thursday through Sunday. So I would prefer to front load my games. I think the introductory games could be Thurs evening and Friday, and maybe a higher level game on Saturday. Sooo what if we did Frostgrave or Stargrave Thursday evening and maybe RoSD Incinerator on Friday with a break for Stargrave? The Stargrave board could use the Lava terrain from Incinerator. Then RoSD Ghost Stone scenarios 1, 2, &3 on Saturday. Ghost Stone scenario 1 is outdoors ruins. Ghost Stone scenario 2 is some huts. Scenario 3 is a river coast with a small pier and a boat; this could work for Ghost Arch afterwards. And the climactic scenario for Ghost Stone would be on Sunday morning. This might be too ambitious. But I could always abort and run a different scenario if we don't get players for the two higher level games of Ghost Stone. I ran Blood Moon for some relatively new players back in 2019 and it was popular. An alternative would be to run RoSD Incinerator on Friday. Then Stargrave on Saturday and alternate with the sci-fi version of A Fist full of Lead. And maybe work in an elaborate game like Blood Moon. buckyball
  6. I was thinking that if we could set a table up for say Rangers of Shadow Deep, the same table and terrain could be used for a game like Ghost Arch afterwards. We could skip blocks of time. Say 2-4 on Saturday then 6-8. The intervening two hours might be used for a quick game of something else. Or we could have all formal blocks of time 2-4, 4-6. 6-8. The downside I see here is that if a game went over by say 20mins it would impede on a scheduled game; which might be a big deal. But it would be less of a big deal if the game was an informal pickup game buckyball
  7. I ran two games of Rangers of Shadow Deep Incinerator last year. The players were new to the game, but they picked it up quickly. So I will probably do that again I would like to run a higher level game, but it is hard to find players who have Rangers lvl 10+ I would like to play Stargrave, Frostgrave, or Ghost Archipelago, but those might be better for pick up games buckyball
  8. 9. What games do people want to play at the convention? What games are people planning on running? I am asking because, in the past I have had games fail to get participation and I have had games that were popular enough that we ended up running extra sessions in the main room buckyball
  10. It is April first What are people planning on painting this month? My goals for April are: Paint a game token for Marvel United Paint some Mithril miniatures Paint two more figures from the annual box. Start working on this quarter's terrain piece(s) buckyball Hobby goals for 2023 Painting one large terrain piece each quarter or several smaller pieces. The goal here is to complete enough to use in a game or scenario [Check!] Painting the 17 miniatures in my annual box [ 7 ] Painting one game token each month [ 4 so far ] Painting three Mithril miniatures each quarter. This works out to an average of one per month; but this way I can paint them in batches [ 3 so far] I also have the unusual goal of not buying any miniatures (for myself) in 2023. I have no idea how I will accomplish this ( 127 days since my last miniature purchase)
  11. The best thing about Heroquest! https://youtu.be/Cx8sl2uC46A
  12. I was also thinking of placing one, or two smaller ones, in a terrainscapes doorway. The party would have to fight the darkroots to pass through the door
  13. I made my walls of thorns into Darkroot vines for the game Rangers of Shadow Deep https://imgur.com/buQqrBO buckyball

  16. How could we do it? I suppose the simplest way would be to have a list and everybody sends a mini to the next person on the list. We could have everyone send a figure they choose, or we could post photos of shelf of shame minis in order to let the painter pic. Or the participants could work it out amongst themselves. I think we should also have the stipulation that the miniature must be pretty small, like a single foot or mounted figure. This would be to keep the cost of shipping down, since the minis would have to go back and forth. I suppose the participants involved could work out the logistics of larger models if they wanted to What do you guys think? buckyball
  17. I did reasonably well for the month of February. The only thing on my list I didn't get to was starting Baba Yaga's hut. But as long as I finish by the end of March its all good. buckyball
  18. Here are photos of the miniature with OSL added https://imgur.com/3EETjox and https://imgur.com/NIwGSGt buckyball
