  1. I finally painted this guy and I'm glad I did. I used Apple Barrel brand craft paint and I think it turned out pretty good considering. The base is a 1'by1' slate tile. I have a bunch left over from a backsplash I did and they seem to suit these minis well. They also have a real nice weight to them which is nice for plastic minis. I can't wait to paint a few minis with Reaper brand paints once my Kickstarter arrives. I'm also going to test basing some Bones on these tiles and see how it goes.
  2. As a beginner, I regret not picking up at least one more paint set. I got 2/4. There were a ton of add ons I would have liked to get if it was in the budget but since it wasn't I don't really regret it. Maybe I regret not getting two netheyrmauls instead of one. They'd make awesome bookends. EDIT: Also I regret living in Canada for the first time in my life. :)
  3. I think I might wait for the revised LTP kits and muster up what I can with the kickstarter paints plus a few extras in the meantime. Hopefully the new LTPK minis aren't duplicated in the vampire but that might be wishful thinking.
  4. I agree, a non traditional flame colour seems appropriate for this one.
  5. Yeah, wow Link and Zelda look great! Really nice work.
  6. Thanks for the advice. There's definitely some good value there for beginners but I probably wont invest in all 5... yet. I think based on the sets I'm getting from the kickstarter I might just grab 2 and 5. Can anyone confirm the colors in the LTPK 5? the online store doesn't seem to list them for some reason.
  7. Thanks for the link. That is helpful. I might pick up one or two of the LTPK but I'm not a big fan of those little pots in the images. What do you mean they come with full bottles?
  8. I apologize if this has already been answered but I looked through the forums and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know if Reaper plans to start selling paint kits, similar to the ones presented in the kickstarter? I'm really regretting not picking up all four. Build your own paint set is a nice idea but it seems like way too many paints for a beginner.
  9. Thanks. I'll experiment a little with what I have but until my Bones kickstarter comes in I'm using cheap craft paints. I have one bottle of paint that reaper sent as a free sample when I bought a bunch of metal minis for my PCs a while back. There is a noticeable difference between the two types of paint and I cant wait to try some of the reaper washes etc.
  10. Did you make your own bases?
  11. Thank you. I made my own wash with some water and black paint which I tried on one but to be honest I was too afraid to experiment much. I'm going to take your advice and try the wash again with the next set of goblins.
  12. Thanks I did struggle with the wood but I, also like how the metals turned out. I appreciate the comments.
  13. I like the wing texture you've painted, it reminds me of birch bark.
  14. Hi guys, I'm still practising in anticipation of the arrival of my Bones. I picked up a bunch of unpainted GW goblins a while back and I'm planning to use them in an upcoming D and D game. I wanted to paint them in a few different skin and clothing colours so I've started with these three. Since these are technically my third, fourth and fifth mini ever, I'd love any feedback you guys have. I'll continue to post other colour experiments here as well. Thanks! I know the photo isn't great but it was taken with an iPhone.
  15. Yeah, great painting job. These minis have a great style.
  16. Is it bad that I've forgotten? I know I have a vampire and a handful of extra including one of the either Nethermaul or Kaladrax but I honestly cant remember the rest since I changed my mind so many times. Is there a way to check? EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. Looks like my order isn't too complicated compared to some of the others here. Vampire x1 Mind Your Manors x1 Forces Of Nature x1 Spider Centaurs x1 Nethyrmaul x1 Starter Paint Set x1 Starter Set 2 x1
  17. Good luck to him! I'd love to hear his opinion of the smashwords process and value. I personally have a children's picture book in the works and have been weighing the options of vanity publishing.
  18. Looks like glue worked well enough. Can you share any info about the glue? Type, brand, tips? Thanks!
  19. Just wanted to say I really enjoyed reading this and following your process. Thanks for sharing!
  20. I hope my first Bones turn out this well. Really nice.
  21. Yeah. I bought the game long ago, I was just a kid and loved the minis. Somehow over the years I was only left with a handful, the rest were lost or broken or otherwise. Too bad I had no idea I should have taken better care of them.
