I finished up basecoating IronHead Ned. I get a definite western feel from this figure. I ended up using ruddy leather for the jacket, denim blue for the pants lone star leather for the boots and oiled leather for the belt and gun holster. Used gun mental over black for the metal bits and Oldwest rose for the bandana, tho I think I'll go more red with white in it..pink isn't really want I was going for. Used same basic technique to dry-brush the cobblestone but tried building up the highlights on the fern abit more ..might have done to much.will let it sit till I've finished with rest of figure and if need be I'll use a green glaze to tone it down abit.

I got the metallics finished and dry brushed some highlights thru the 3 tones of army painter metallics I have. then used the sewer water wash to shade the wood. I used black ink to shade the metal..Its a good look for an old gun like this one. Not sure how much more detail work I want to do on this one ...welp here it is so far.

Its been a while since I updated. Between work and Rocksmith I seem to be slacking off alot I got the rest of all the blackwatch gulch figures assembled over the last couple weeks. the Serenity crew were especially frustrating to assemble..the small hands on the doc were separated at the wrist instead of the elbow..which just didn't leave enough material to pin. none of the arms or hands had nibs to help attach with all were flat cuts. the feet weren't really attached to the slot bases..they were raised off on these very thin stalks that were more star shaped then round or square..so had to drill them all as well the shotgun on the back of Jayne wasn't keyed at all so had to try and file slot to glue to. They're done but took alot more time to clean and assemble then all the rest. Indiana Jones is ok but I ended up bending reshaping the whip so it touched the hat and the back of the sleeve as well as his hand..I think it still looks ok and with 3 contact points shouldn't break so easily. The rangers were better and got them all assembled except the civil war gun which I can't see assembling till its all painted so thats what I'm working on. The base is finished and just need to paint the metal over the black basecoat, do some metallic highlights(probably dry brush) then glue it down to the base.

OH! I hadn't considered it was a podperson from Mars aka Invasion of the Body Snatchers..that could be fun to. I ordered a second set of Supernatural Branch bobbies and am gonna try and convert a couple into figs that are missing from the line(Dog handler and Chaplin specifically) and then gonna just mod the weapons of 4 to convert to regular Bobbies with billyclubs..hopefully it goes well

I think Iron Head Ned is gonna be the next I work on should be pretty straight forward..gonna try to do abit different tone of brown for the coat He's a fun looking guy to do I think. Here he is primed up and ready to basecoat and just as abit of a progress so far on the EOD figures, long way to g,o but as a whole I think they're working out..I'm trying to not use the exact colors over and over ,was worried about the dusky skin for the pants for example..but it looks pretty good as a group so far. the Green Plantern is definitely the least unassuming of the lot heh.

thanks folks..sorry didn't reply sooner seems to be an ISP dns issue going on..coudn't connect to the forumns till i set my vpn to connect thru texas server. The figure is one of the Kickstarter bonus figures from the Empire of the Dead line, I think he was a prototype for a new faction but just became a bonus figure. One of the location/scenerios in the game is a London Botanical gardens area with a bunch of mutant plants..this guy certainly could be related to the that and was probably experimented on with infrinium( red crystals that are cause of all the steampowered"magic" in the game universe) some dirt flocking isn't a bad idea at all and would look great. I didn't know if the vines that are carring him are part of his body and he's walking Doctor Octopus style or if they are ground roots that are picking him up ..Poison Ivy style. Oh and "Green Plantern" so awesome! thats his name from now on

Got to spend some more time on this botanical hero.I ended up just using a dull linen white/yellow blend for the eyes..but didn't put pupils.. I used vampiric shadow for the shirt shaded it with a watered down black wash and built up the colors just adding white..seemed to make sense. for the pants I used ashen blue to blend up the highlights from the denim blue. just regular black and grey for the shoes. for the wrapping vines I added yellow to the brown to lighten the tops but the last brown wash might have flattened alot of that..but I like the darker brown for tree's and roots that the wash gives.I just blended in the same yellow to the brown on the spine ridge to highlight it and added a #71 to the id tag hanging on his wrist. Think its pretty much done except for the gloss and dullcotes. Heres pic with more angles..he's got alot of ridges and stuff going on...kindal like a green pinecone

thats a good idea Monkeysloth.. I want to keep it mostly dark but sunflower yellow or some flowering color for the eyes might work with the plant stalk coloring of him.. his head does kinda look like a lip-less skull but im not sure, think i should make the ridge more teeth like right above the beard stuff?

I got some free time tonight so i made a dark blue wash for the pants..tho it didn't turn out as dark as i had intended I'll just have to build up the mid tones and highlights more.. for the flesh I used some sewer water wash mixed with peacock green for the shading..its abit streaker then I'd like not sure why that happened. so after that I tried blending in the midtones for the flesh ..then added some marigold yellow to start the first layer of highligting..then after added some linen white after and then a mostly linen white with a touch of the light green color for the beard and peak highlights.. I really don't know what to do about the color of the eyes..right now they're just shaded and I kinda like them murkey and dark welp here he is so far.

thx uber! I spent a little time on the specimen base coating him. I used olive green for the skin tones, golden brown for the roots, denim blue for the pants and vampiric shadow for shirt. He's an intriguing figure I quiet like the look of him.I got most of the base painting finished but I'll probably wait to the end to do the final highlights incase I need to reapply the mid towns while painting the main figue Here he is so far

thanks KB, i did go over the edges of them in a couple spots to try and clean them up with the tanned highlight. I ended up using blackened brown for the tat color..it was thin enough were its at the point of slightly transparent so seems to do a good job for a color. I touched up the black ink and spots where the metal was showing thru on edge of cloak.think i was rubbing it when turning figure in my hand and added gold to the knife handle, overall I think I'm satisfied with her as is. Kinda a medium time job on her,but not feeling the urge to spend more time tweaking her.

I'm trying with some alternative colored backgrounds and am having abit more success. I spent some more time on Tatu. i used wash's to shade most everything. Black wash mixed with some of the base color of the cloak. blackwash for the hair, a thinned down blackwash on the peticote.. I tried some black ink on the gun metal and I think I like how inks react with the metallic paint. After that I used a blend of ruddy brown and tanned shadow for the flesh shading. I used the tanned triad to work up the flesh tone and blacked brown to shade the eyes and try and emulate the eye and arm tatoo's she has in the source art..The tats are abit rough(freehand newb that I am) I think I can use some tanned highlight to try and clean up the edges on the shoulder and eyes later. after that used the vampiric skin triad to highlight the peticote. used yellowed bone on the handle of the gun and gory red on the heart on the gun. Still lots to do but heres progress so far.

these guys look great! love neds camo coat! wonderful work Cash -
Thx all Even tho this figure seems more inspired by the modern phantom based on the mask...I just love the original and adore the Red Death outfit Lon Chaney wore, so figured I'd give him a nice deep red cloak would work. (The real Phantom) I finished working on the sword and got the Phantom GlossCote'd and it should be dullcoted tomorrow. I moved on to Basecoating Tatu the Half Vampire. I pretty much stuck with the cannon color scheme for her. I used Soft Blue for her shawl and nightmare black for the hair..a mix of splattered crimson and imperial purple for the maroon corset, vampiric shadow for the petticoat and tanned skin and Army Painters Gunmetal for the gun and knife. Heres progress so far.

thx Anne I've done the whole soviet army with the redtrimmed bases..just to give it a bit more of Themed look i'm pretty happy with how they look and my ulterior motive was it makes it very easy to collect my figures off the board when we're done playing, were as the guys that do seamless flocking around the edges sometimes seem to really blend into the tabletop terrain :) I spent some more time doing the highlighting and detailing on the Phantom I ended up adding some marigold yellow(orangie yellow color) to the fresh blood to do the last slight highigts on the cloak..they're hard to see but I think they work without changing the tone of the cloak to orange to much. for the leather trim i used lonestar leather over the russet brown and just added some linen white to the lonestar for the highest color on the mask strap and glove. used some gw auric armour gold on the handle and cloak buttons then used armor wash to shade them and some newgold and pearl white to highlight. The sword I used runefang steel some washes to shade and tried to use polished silver to highlight but I'm really struggling with the brighter colored reaper metalics..they seem more flat then metalics..I love all the other paints but something about the metalics aren't working well for me. reguardless the sword needs some more blending between the shading and the brighter silver..its abit to abrupt . for the black boots and shirt and cloak collar I just used noir black and blended in some stone grey progressively till just a touch of line white and stone grey for the tips. for the hair I mixed some lone star leather and marigold for the mid tone and then some linen white to it to highlight the hair..seems pretty good as a sandy brown coloring so here it is pretty much done except some tweaking of the sword.
