Please don’t. I feel guilty enough as it is. That tree was over a hundred years old and shaded this entire end of the block.

I’ve got some pictures, yeah, but I don’t want to get in these guys’ way. I really don’t want to distract them. They’re fast. One trunk is almost all down.

The trunk is seven or eight feet across at the base, with four main trunks (when we moved in the inspector shook his head and said three of them should have been removed sometime before the Korean War), and some rot in one of the ones menacing leaning towards several neighbors’ townhouses. Ah, the chainsaws are beginning to rev. One minute later, expecting posts to merge. ... Okay, I shouldn’t have looked outside for that.

    Happy Birthday malefactus

It’s not belated! Paintybeard is in a time zone where today started early.

Welp, the tree guys are here with two gigantic cranes and an entire woodchipper truck to deal with the humongous silver maple in our back yard. They look reassuringly professional.
  7. My daughter accepts commissions for drawings of characters because she can do them quickly and has time for them and they don’t drain away her joy in making things. I think it would be difficult to convince people to pay an actual fair market rate for all the work that goes into painting something so small as a miniature.

Stumbles bleary eyed into thread. Lordy, what a week this has been. Do I hear people singing coffee blues?

    Aw, Mouse, I’m sorry.

    Citadel Contrast paints

Sounds like a sort of two-tone transparent paint used for glazing color while simultaneously taking advantage of the three dimensionality of the figures for effect. Also playing with undertone and different color primers. On a guess.

How do they manage the curved outer hull?

My mom was a hippie. I was breastfed despite the prevalence of Dr. Spock. I remember just having learned to read and confusing him with Mister Spock.

    Titania Hasslefree Miniatures

Very nice! I like the subtle use of violets in the cool shading on her skin and the gentle satin of her purple draperies. Her hair is excellent too - whites are tricky.
  15. I’ve known what today is since I was old enough to know my birthday. I never got into WWII minis, although I did once paint up a small diecast model Luftwaffe plane pink with roses as a present for Donna Barr.

77344 - Ice Troll - Different paint scheme.

A very effective use of bright color contrasts.
  17. I think they’re cool. Paint ‘em something apart from International Safety Orange and you’re good to go. I also like the OTHER Tropicana orange juice lids, which make pretty good spaceship portals.

Er. Cough. Cleaning out the saucepan after lunch while munching on my usual after-lunch square of dark chocolate. I’m not sure what came oer me. Something like “The curry sauce is mostly milk and spices. Why not give it a try?”
  20. OMG, they got EVERYTHING right. YouTube video of a Brazilian car ad which is TOTALLY a live-action version of the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.

Gods help me, chocolate and curry sauce are great together.

  23. This is the Reaper Bones 77371 Basilisk sculpted by Julie Guthrie. It's quite small - about the size of a large dog, with a wonderfully grouchy visage. I painted it up fairly quickly to illustrate a video about how yellow and black can be mixed to make greens. This was an example of the less vivid greens (For a really vivid yellow-and-black green, see my She-Hulk Show-Off thread). All the colors on the critter were mixed just from yellow (mostly Yellow Ochre, but also a little Hansa Yellow), black, and white. The video is here, if anyone cares to watch it.

I think it was Vicodin I threw out after the first dose when I had my wisdom teeth out. It didn’t make me nauseous, but it did lay me flat on my back unable to move.
