  1. Thank you, to all 3 of you! They had told us that we could paint using what we had to start, but when we went with the Bones, I wasn't sure because of the plastic. They did say that if we soak in simple green we can scrub and start over. We'll see about getting a set of paints so he can get started, he's eager!
  2. Hello everyone! I'm a newbie here at the forum. Took my (almost 10) year old son into the gaming store and he came home with his first mini. A minotaur Bones figure. He also found out about the kickstarter, begged to support at the vamp level as his birthday present and we relented. Which led us here! He's home from a weekend of camping, and wants to get a start at that minotaur. Will the enamel paints that he has from the hobby store (for rc body painting and airbrushing) work on the Bones? Before he gets all set up, I thought a quick check here in the forums might help us not waste t
  3. That is awesome, thank you BOTH! I'm definitely going to get a kit (maaaaybe 2) and a set of rats and kobolds in the bones line for his birthday party. We rented a gaming rig for him and his friends this year after finding a killer deal. I will be checking out the local shop as well. They were amazing with my son, and the 'resident painter' (not sure of his official title, but he had a desk and paints everywhere!) really talked with him and showed him the diff types and explained the differences. We left there very happy customers. :) So much to look at, and to read! I've restrained mys
  4. Thanks so much! Lost my last post... It seems I should explore a bit more before I open my mouth and ask any more silly (stupid) questions. I think I will pick him up some rats and kobold sets to practice with (and have to open at his birthday party). And I'll definitely check out the learn to paint kits! Thank you so much! I've got the kickstarter open in a tab while I work on my website today. I hope we make it to the next level, it's exciting. Feels like a party day. :p
  5. I'll be sure to point him at your post Dr.Bedlam! ;) In the interim of waiting for his truckload of minis in March... could anyone PM me reputable sites to get him a collection to practice painting in anticipation? When I first thought we'd get the dungeon pack, I thought that would be great and allow him to have multiples to try out diff things on. Now I'm not sure what to do. Groovymunki (I like your name!) -- I like the familiars pack, I hope we make it! (I really want the little fairy dragon to paint, myself!)
  6. LoL , I agree! I love the visuals and how the team laid everything out though. There's just SO much of it! It's been about 15 years since my last foray into rp'ing. And now I have to figure out where to get back in and how to best introduce him. The mini's definitely got his interest so I'm glad we went in the shop. And by extension, heard about the Bones, and the kickstarter and managed to find my way here. I see a lot of reading in my future here on the forums!
  7. There was a LOT to take in! When he first looked and then showed us, it had about 25 hours left. So we knew we had to make a decision quickly. It's really amazing how well the kickstarter has done! All the extras and the lengths that the team have gone through are truly above and beyond. It's great to see a community rally like this.
  8. Thank you, I must have misread something somewhere. Looks like we'll be buying a set in the meantime to get him started. He's got his minotaur at the very least. Excited for March! :)
  9. Thank you ALL for the kind words of welcome and the helpful links. I've bookmarked them for him. He and dad are away this weekend for some rc car racing. They spend their weekends lately working on cars and planes, and my son is learning by simulation to fly. A little more about him, (because he's awesome, and I'm a proud mom). He's soon to be 10 years old, next month! He's just started 6th grade, in a technology program though Project Lead the Way. Over the next 3 years, he's going to be learning CAD, 3D modeling, Robotics, and more! He's working on learning windows visual basic, and ho
  10. Hello everyone! First post here on the forums. I am a homeschool mom, and while taking my son out to do some donations to a local shelter, we stopped by when my son spotted a local game store. He was enchanted the moment we walked through the door. The staff of the shop, took their time and showed him the miniatures and various ones they had worked on there at the store. They took the time to explain between enamel and acrylic paints (He's done a few ships/car model with his dad over the past year). He's always been keen on detail work, and he walked out of the shop as the proud owner
