  1. Yes, I have an old large bottle of Winsor Newton's Galeria Gloss Varnish and used three coats of that. It worked out better than I thought it would. I had to "rescue" one piece when my little one laid a sock on one while it was drying and it was a while before I noticed but even it came out pretty well after another coat.
  2. Thanks for the advice everyone. I finished these a while back and although they're not anywhere as nice as the resin pieces in the original photos, I'm happy with how they came out. These are pretty bad pictures from my phone but maybe you can get an idea.
  3. No, the unpainted tiles don't have any resin water in place. I'm just just trying to duplicate the painted bottom. I'm not going to add any sort of resin water either, I thought I'd just do a gloss varnish after getting the paint where I like it. Yes, I'm just trying to duplicate the painted bottom as closely as possible, no resin water. You may be right about them doing the painting in layers. If so, I guess I'm out of luck.
  4. I'm trying to paint my Dwarven Forge Cavern Water set tiles. I really love the look of their old resin water pieces and I want to try to duplicate them as much as I can but I can't seem to get it to look right. Here is a link to several pictures of the resin tiles, http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_071006b.htm , or here are a couple of examples of what I'm trying to do. It appears to only be about three different colors and I think I have a good match for them but I just can't get the effects right. My stippling for the seaweed effect doesn't look the same and I can't even get close to the blue and green submerged land or bubble like structures. Was there some sort of wet blend like technique going on here? I'm still really a beginner when it comes to painting but if someone could point me in the right direction here I'd really like to learn how this was done. Thanks so much for any help you can give me!
  5. Yes! I got mine a couple days ago. I'm in TN. The minis and everything else look pretty great to me. I haven't gotten to play though. Unfortunately I can't get the wife and kid to play boardgames with me much these days. :(
  6. How small do you mean? Reaper already makes 20mm bases Thanks! I didn't realize they made them already. I guess I assumed that they would have been part of one of the kickstarters.
  7. I'd really like some small sized bases for all the little guys.
  8. Lots of Dragonmen. I wanted to build up a small army of these for my D&D campaign and just now realized how rare these are. I could only find two Dragonmen that were released in the previous Bones kickstarters. Also all of the old WotC Dragonborn miniatures were rares or very rares so they're not an option. Help me build a Dragonman army Reaper! You're my only hope!
  9. I've been wondering why their kickstarter has been as slow as it has too. I'm also guessing over-saturation. The quality and price point are similar to other coin kickstarters in the past. I'm a backer though and I hope they reach their goal. I don't think I'll be satisfied until I have a Smaug level coin horde going.
  10. I use it as an in game prop. Whenever my players find treasure in coin form I hand them out that amount in coins. In town they can exchange their other forms of treasure for more coins and hand some of it back over to me when they buy things. I've just started this recently so I'll see how it goes. I think it's a cool way to add immersion though and so far my daughter really likes having a bag full of treasure.
  11. I use Paizo campaign coins. They are very nice. I've also got some of the Rare Elements coins from their kickstarters and I've backed a couple others that haven't come in yet.
  12. I love gaming coins almost as much as minis. I hope these guys reach their goal. I like the variety and it looks like a pretty good value to me. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/420090979/metal-gaming-coins-rpg-larping-cosplay-board-games
  13. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1302882483/thundercock-miniatures-modular-dungeon-terrain?ref=users Looks pretty nice. Does anyone know anything about them?
  14. More pirates! My wife has promised to DM a pirate campaign. I would especially love some non-human races in pirate gear. I haven't had any luck finding these on the cheap.
  15. I didn't buy any of the Pokorny paints from DF since I was broke and I already have a ton of paint from Reaper and Vallejo. I really like the way those four colors look on the pieces though. Does anyone know what the equivalent colors for the Base Grey, Earth Stone, Olive Dry Brush, and Stone Edge Dry Brush are in Reaper and/or Vallejo?
