  1. Digital prototypes to greens are fantastic though. It means you can check out that parts aren't too thick or too thin before you even start, and pose/re-pose to your heart's content.

Maybe his wrist needs to be just a bit that way? No problem. If you prototyped in green, it's a bit more of a pain.

  2. I haven't seen enough examples yet to really make a call on it but thus far, with the sculpts I know about, I definitely prefer the old-fashioned sculpting to the digital stuff at this stage.

Of course that might just be me being a... whatyacallit? Grog Tankard?

Frog Yard. Like the space where you keep your domesticated frogs.

  3.

    Mouselings. Definitely my mouselings.

Then the Heroes and Villains with their snazzy bases. Then whatever I need for my campaign, probably any woodland creatures that are there. Centaurs look like fun, even if they suffer from buckle-itis.

The bases are indeed snazzy; I'm probably going to try sticking various minis on them, just because. The castle-dude looks incredibly awesome, and every time I see him I entertain wild ideas of a Bones chess set....

    Huzzah!

Yea, The Rook is pretty awesome, although I just finished painting 5 Warmachine Cinerators, and let me tell you that if you had to paint up 16 Pawns you'd jump off a cliff.

I'd love a "Fey Court" with a King, Queen, Bishop and Knight to round out the set though. Maybe buy them up and paint them as card suits and then have an Alice in Wonderland game with your Jabberwock?

HA! I have 5 cinerators the 2 player box, waiting to be painted as well. You could also only paint 8 pawns if you made different pawns for each side.

Yup I split the BB with a friend, he took Khador ("The shields have guns in them!") and I took Menoth. 8 pawns in 2 colours is probably how you'd do it. It'd still be torture, but at least maybe they wouldn't be covered in rivets (or as I like to call them "Oh $ I missed another one"). I'd need to paint them in batches of 2 so I could get bored of them in between batches.

  5. CHANGE OF TOPIC

Which mini will y'all plan on painting up first?

Mine will probably be the Gelatinous Cube.

    *paints glossy sealer on it*

    Done!!

    ...Wait, that doesn't count?

  6. Thanks Pingo, not a bad idea.

Just a FYI thing, but insofar as I can tell, 3" fender washers run 5 for $20. With onyx's size chart, I'm going to sum up my Huge base needs!

    ...

Hey Onyx... noticed a few mistakes

    "Maashaf, Size: Medium"?

    Sorkar should be Large

    The Goroloth should be Huge

I think the wereshark is only Large(?)

The swamp troll has no references, tough to say...could be Large or Huge

The Deva may also be Huge, not sure...her base looks the same size as the Hill Giants though.

The Gnolls and Bugbears, from my experience, are all Large. You can try to cram them onto a 25mm square base diagonally, but their toes are going to hang over the edges.

  7. The newest Trick Card is quite nice. I'm rolling a hybrid barbarian soon and these are just perfect. Remember, these are miniatures and not toys for children, so who gives a damn about the skin. This is the only core set piece I might actually buy dupes of!!!!!!! Any word on the cost?

Probably $2-$4. There's only 2 minis, and 6 PF Medium minis are $10, so 2 is probably $3 or so.

As an aside, we just squeaked over the Day 3 pledge limit, which puts today as the 3rd-most pledged of all days.

  8. Beep Boop

Can anyone confirm what size of base I need if I want to base the following:

    The PF Red from KS1

    Narthrax

    Blightfang

    Cinder

    The Chimera

    The Armored Aurochs

    The Swamp Troll

    The Bullette

The Fire and Frost Giants from KS1

Do I need Huge (3") or Gargantuan (4") bases? Debating getting an extra set of Huge bases, since I'm also picking up the Hill Giants. I've been basing everything on fender washers, but since Home Depot doesn't even stock 3"+ fender washers, I was going to have to buy something from Michaels and it's likely it was going to cost me ~$1 per base if I bought wooden discs anyways.

Hey, she's wearing half a shirt. The dude's going completely topless!

(Though, as usual, I'd like male/female pairs like this to have a bit more gender equality in pose: barbarians don't stand around looking pretty and leaning on their axes! Pretty cool mini though, regardless.)

I like cheesecake in my minis. That being said, I also enjoy a nice fully armored female mini, too. I'm easy like that.
Amusingly, I wouldn't mind if she had no chest armor or armor on her whole chest but the half and half would drive me crazy because I can't see how that would work. Never mind that it wouldn't protect either, that goes with the barbarian territory. Easily fixed though so no worries.

Actually a topless woman with armor over the right breast makes sense if she is an *archer*.

    Because otherwise ... yeeeowtch.

Burrowing Horror goal coming up quick.

Check your pockets and update your pledges!

    *Morbo*

BUDGETS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY

You might want to check with Congress on that.

YOUR AMERICAN CONGRESS DOES NOT CONCERN THE LAND OF THE GREAT WHITE NORTH. WATCH AS WE LAUGH WHEN YOUR INSTITUTIONS ARE SHUT DOWN.

    MWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.

    BACK TO YOU LINDA.

  11. I think those bugbears and gnolls hiding in groups of 4 make it appear like the value is smaller. Because those guys are a fair bit larger than the PC types, and they retail for more.

I don't know if anyone has done a comparison on the number of large guys versus small & medium guys, but with all those rats and familiars there were a lot of very small items in KS#1. Honestly they had the core set at a pretty good deal from the start, and I agree that once it hit 100 item mark it gained the 'no brainer' status of good deals.

The "Bonus" minis are correctly drawn to scale, but the "Bugbears and Gnolls" extra shows them way too small.

The Dungeon Monsters, Dungeon Decor I and Beast Mode are also drawn small.

  12. Once Sophie stops being a drawing, I'm pretty sure she'll hit my favorites list.

    Right now my faves are:

    the Deva

the "Skull Lord on Throne" from the core

everything from the Heroes and Villains extra

    the hatchlings

    Nethyrmaul

    the Mouslings

    all the PF stuff

and Sorkar (although I didn't pledge for CE1).

  13.

Too much awesome is right! Those hatchlings are cool and look like fun to paint. I think painting them up to match the same color as one big dragon (with the dragon being the momma) would be a cool diorama and/or encounter for players of a D&D/Pathfinder game.

There is just one small problem with the Dragon Hatchlings....there isnt 5 :( That way I could do all 5 colors in mulitples....(not counting metallics not that I would mind 10 different ones)

Solution: Buy 5 sets, 4 of each colour.

  14. 48h is the marker for sending the KS Reminder emails out. Once that happens, we should get an influx of new backers. It may not be immediate, but it should be a solid flow as once-fence-sitters and the mildly-interested now start to pledge.

We may need to stop talking about cookies now...

    Says the M&M.

  15. A Werner Klocke Clockwork Chimera Camera quirk works.

On a related note, did anyone notice that 4 days from the finish kicktraq is reporting we pulled the 4th most of the entire campaign. Yesterday's income was $84k, and today we're already up to $25k and it's only 9AM here.

If we break 100k today, not only will it be the first time since the 4th that we're above our average daily pledge, but ~125k should put us in the runnings for the 48h explosion that KSs have come to expect.

  16. Holy smoke.

Reading that KS update is pretty brutal. If someone is reading this @ Reaper please go give Bryan a hug or something. And a box of Timbits...or whatever Texans eat when they want to feel happy.

(I kind of agree with Jeff's analysis, and Bryan kind of blew up at him. Assumptions are made because we're armchair tacticians, just like sports fans. We deconstruct because we care. Is that weird? I think people are frustrated because we want Reaper to do well, so isn't that a good thing? Why with the yelling at your backers?)

Please don't hit me, I like it here.

  17.

Thanks again for wading through the comments again.

Reaper will (and should) stick to their guns until (nearly) the end.

As to bases = rats, well...our opinions differ on that Reaper. A miniature is something I can put on the table and it is recognized as an actual...y'know, thing. A rat can be placed on the game table by its lonesome and used...as a rat. If I place a base on my table and shout "The rats attack!" my gamers are going to look at me funny, or I may as well just use quarters.

Your Core set has 152 miniatures, and 70 bases. It does not have 222 miniatures.

You could always slap down ten bases and say "the invisible monsters attack!"

This has the beginnings of a Monty Python sketch.

    "The invisible monsters attack"

    "No they haven't"

    "What?"

    "No they haven't"

"Yes they have, they're right there!"

"Not very invisible then are they?"

  18.

I get that, and you're right. I can even understand why people feel that way. I just wish more would look at the other side.

A plastic base needs an expensive steel mold and time in the injection machine and packaging, etc. Exactly like a miniature in every way.

I don't know how to smoothly bridge these two perspectives, but (thankfully) Reaper is way better at this kind of thing than I am.

Edit: Full disclosure: My pledge currently includes $10 for an extra pack of the small bases.

    (Also @Buglips):

I understand that they're not valueless but I prefer to see it as "$100 for 150 minis and you get 70 bases because we care". I get that. They're totally useful, nothing to scoff at, but if they start saying things like "Why do you count the rats then?" then they're guilty of the same childishness that the commenters are.

Ultimately the instinct is to go "Gee KS1 had 200 minis by this time" and ignore the value of the bases. In fairness, bases are kinda dull and people want zomg.
