Amen. I gave up trying to paint anything that would win competitions many years ago. Now I aim for something I'm happy with, and I have had people tell me they prefer some of my work over some others that are technically far more advanced. The thing I do want to improve on is my basing skills. I've often looked at my minis and thought "that would look really cool with a better base", but then my mind completely blanks on what I could do for it. Once I've got more time from everything else going on, I plan to experiment a lot in this regard.

Two months ago I regretted not getting Nethyrmaul. But then I thought to myself "what the hell, it can't hurt to ask". Turns out Reaper were quite happy to add it to my order with an extra payment via PayPal. So no regrets here.

Hah. I got 1/3 on first glance, and 3/3 on closer inspection. Is it easier to tell the difference in person?

Upon closer inspection.... ie - Photoshop cropping, pulling the swatches closer together and zooming in a bit... I'm still not sure though. I think you've actually chosen one of the colors that's harder to tell. I tend to find light colors (reds, yellows and greens) are more affected by the base color. Good post.
