  1. And I believe the sculptor intended the lure to dangle, as opposed tot he aft facing model you have shown, so it is more reminiscent of an anglerfish.

Individuals, of course, are free to reinterpret the model to suit their own needs. We will not be sending out the Model Police to enforce rigid assembly procedures.

Volunteer Squad - Stand Down! We had some grey area before but we can't defy explicit orders.

Return the black pyjamas, truncheons, rubber hoses, and official Model Assembly Enforcement Squad badges immediately.

Next time... maybe next time they'll unleash us on the unsuspecting modders. Our time will come.

    Nobody expects the Mod Squad!

  2. For anyone interested Mantis has launched his new KS. Foam trays in a fancy cardboard box.

    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/932371889/mantis-creations-storage-for-zombies

£27 per case + up to £22 for shipping. The single Horde case could store 144-300 standard size minis depending on the config chosen.

Those who have theirs from the first KS report being happy with them, I can't vouch for them as still waiting on mine. :-(

Are those Mantis boxes cardboard?! If so, SOLD!

Yes, fancy cardboard box with a wide range of foam inserts to choose from.

I believe he's looking at cardboard alternatives - I didn't pay too much attention that that conversation.

Mantis is a one-man start-up operating from his garage and rented space and struggling with delivering his first KS on his own while coping with life and work to pay the bills (commas removed from that sentence - solidarity!). He is intending to offer the cases for sale online and is even mad enough to be considering another KS.

Good on him and good luck, I hope he makes it work and I encourage you to support him with your business. But fair warning not to expect the Reaper-level-customer-service-awesomeness yet.

His web page (mantiscreations.com) is just about KS fulfilment but he has a twitter page which gets occasional love

    twitter.com/MantisCreation

I can't comment on the quality of the cases as I'm still awaiting mine. His KS is only 5 months late so far, barely even worth mentioning. :-)

  3. Turned out to be the Ice Wall for me - as a test piece for the translucents.

Me too, except I did the shadow creatures. Was just going to deploy them as is but thought I'd quickly experiment first.

Tried applying a wash directly but it pooled in the wrong places.

Then applied an acrylic medium to get a clear base followed by an 'armour wash' (mostly black) to enhance the features.

The result is ok, not great. But it was quick, simple, and added some contrast.  Didn't photograph well.

  4. Keeping in mind that this is the opinion of a complete amateur...

They look too clean and perfect. Maybe this comes later but they need some character, scars, dirt, imperfections, grit.

Maybe they're the type of giant that soaks in underground mineral spas and never lets the sun touch their skin but my feeling for giants is that they're a bit more earthy, gritty, dirt, blood and hair under their fingernails. A bit of yesterday's Halfling roast between their teeth.

The best figs I've seen imply a story. I wonder how they got that scar, how did they lose that hand, what is that smeared over their legs.

After shipping from Reaper around the 13th, mine is also in schrodinger-ville.

New Zealand    02/19/2015 1:46 P.M. Shipment Acceptance at international carrier

Bensenville, IL, United States   02/18/2015 2:29 P.M. Package received for processing by UPS Mail Innovations

Quantum tunnelling has occurred, my box has moved in both space and time.

New Zealand 02/26/2015 10:29 A.M. Package arrived at international carrier

New Zealand 02/22/2015 10:48 A.M. Package departed international carrier facility

I'm assuming this means 4 days to fly to NZ and get checked-in to a warehouse.

I'm hoping they mean 'local time' of the scan (3 days transit +1 day crossing the dateline) which means this was Thurs NZ time which is yesterday!

Which could mean I have a box or failed-delivery card waiting at home...

If not, the airport is close, only a few hundred warehouses out there, can't be more than a few million square meters of storage to search using my mad-ninja-goat skills... let me know if anyone hears me trip a silent alarm.

    They're here!

W1 and W2 to Auckland, New Zealand. Both arrived at the same time. Both showing delivered (after the fact) on UPS-MI Tracking, last status before that was "Package arrived at international carrier".

No tax or duty issues (huzzah), both packages were borderline for the duty free threshold - hence two pledges/shipments.

I'm just going out to open my bones now, I may be some time...

    EDIT: Some time later...

    Thank you ReaperClark and Shannon!

All checked off and looking great. Danel's hand is a feature!

Have an extra I can't account for, 50mm circular base with bits of broken columns in Exp 2. It's lovely but I've no idea what it goes with.

Suffering from bonechitis/miniadhd/minifugue bones overload - I don't know where to start.  And I only got about 10 lbs, for those with bigger orders, start investing in bones-counselling, maybe join a support group, Reaper help you all!

yeah Im guessing Bryan or someone else got in early just to crank out as much as possible.

Or someone else got in at her regularly scheduled time, finished her desk work and moved on to filling orders ...

Sorry LS, Forum Rule 19b: Bryan always steals gets the credit for everything positive.

It's written on the bottom, in red crayon, I hope it's crayon. And we never always follow the rules.

  8. UPS told me on twitter that packages are backed up in Bensenville because of the weather. So if you, like me have been wondering why your package hasn't moved, or whether it has moved but they just haven't told you - sadly it looks likely that they are, in fact, just sitting there. Bummer.

Re-posting this from Cycnet, our uber-loot may actually still be sitting in the international outbound warehouses in Bensenville.

Or they could be anywhere in the world - gotta love the information-vacuum powers of modern track and trace systems.  :zombie:

Also: Farm boy? I'll have you know, that just because I have never lived outside of a cop dodging distance of a cornfield does not make me a farmer. It just makes the vast majprity of my relatives and wife's relatives farmers. I would never deign to call myself such. I haven't earned that right. ^_^

Obscure Princess Bride reference. Gotta keep reminding you young people of the classics! :-)

  10. My package arrived!!. Now I need to carefully open it and carefully excise DDS2... Wow it takes up the whole bottom of the box... this could look suspicious... also now I kind of want my wife to see it at the bottom of the box rather than waiting till next week. Next week is the 10th anniversary  of our first date and I was going to give it to her then (was going to stash it in my closet). What does everybody else think. give it to her now or later?

Take it all out, wrap DDS2, re-pack with DDS2 back on the bottom, reseal the box, then hide it until next week and open it with her.

Surprise DDS2 - that's love. Having your bones for a whole week and not playing with them - That's Tru Luvv Farm Boy!!

  11. We've left for the night. The water on the roads has almost finished re-freezing and it was worse driving home (where I am now) than it was driving in this morning.

We did get waybills on all of today's and Saturday's parcels, and we still think we can finish in 4 days - but there is the new possibility that tomorrow will be a "snow day" as well, meaning we may not finish by Friday as once predicted.

There is a simple and obvious answer - robots!

You should have some awesome-cool-robots to do the actual picking while you sit at home with a VR helmet and some gloves with lots of LEDs and wires remotely controlling the robots.

This is an issue of staff safety, budget should not even come into it. That it is only required 2 or 3 days every year is immaterial.

M: "Byran, why did you add 10 DDS2 to that order?"

B: "My kids were trying to change the TV channel by pressing buttons on my VR glove."

  12. W1 ROW Reaper and UPS Emails came through this morning. Yay!  Thanks Bryan and Kit for successfully negotiating the techno-maze-of-email-doom. The smoking corpses of your opponents lie behind you now.

UPS Tracking Oddness: Some time late last night the UPS Tracker updated to say my parcel had been handed off for NZ Delivery 14 hours earlier.  Makes sense, overnight batch updates are a common feature of modern 1990's programming.

  13. When i shipped my exchange mini to NZ it via UPS it stopped in Bensenville and then was delivered  within 48 hours..

I'm now facing Bensenville and praying, 48 hours from yesterday would mean a very happy Saturday.

Of course my wife may not be quite so happy covering for my sudden onset of Bonesitis and have to do all the parental taxi duties.

  14.

Nope, same old one in UPS.  Showing Bensenvile, IL, same as Titus.

    It's just outside of Chicago.

Me too. 6 days after the UPS MI email it has finally changed... to Bensenville.

930 miles in 6 days is making pretty good time for an Army Surplus WW2 truck, especially when they can only travel at night without lights in case of air-raids. A pity they didn't have a compass. New Zealand is south-west of Texas across the pacific, last I checked Chicago is north-east of Denton.

Maybe it's a zen thing "To travel toward ones destination, first one must travel away".

I enjoyed your write-up. But realistically Chicago might be where they are flying out of. They are a big, international airport and the carriers probably consolidate their shipping somewheres for convenience sake. Looks like you can get a direct DFW to NZ flight for passengers, but maybe not a ton of cargo going direct.

"Your blind adherence to facts and market research reason is stifling my creativity."

I'm guessing that Chicago is the handover from UPS MI to USPS which is why UPS scanned it - the "Not my problem any more" scan.

If I recall correctly, my KS Bones I went to New York before leaving the country towards NZ - which makes sense because that is almost the furthest most point in the US from NZ.

USPS scanned it NY for International (or something like that) and gave me a NZ Post tracking number, then nothing for a few days until NZ Post Tracking popped up with "Scanned into Depot, out for delivery.". The following morning I may have been a little late for work.

I got my e-mail yesterday with a tracking number but it doesn't work. No e-mail from UPS either...

Remember that tracking numbers can take 24-48 hours to become active. UPS had to pick up the pallet, break open the pallet, and then scan the boxes.

Don't forget that they also have to break open our packages, play with OUR toys, re-seal them with their ninja-skills so we'll never know and then, maybe send them on - if their game finished before their shift ended.

For those with warped, crushed or missing pieces - my sympathies. It was bring-a-kid to work day at UPS - some of those kids are a bit rough and still developing their ninja skills.

  18. Kovbasa - Yes!

Unidentifiable - No need to worry yet.

By the end of this week you should have the shipping email from reaper with a USPS tracking number that is actually meaningful.

And possibly the boxes may arrive before the emails.

Not ideal, not what anyone wanted or anticipated just the influence of Murphy and the real world.

Unless there are further updates from Reaper to say otherwise, hang in there and assume the best until Friday. If you don't have an email by then, let Reaper now via the help email address.

I've been lurking for the past few days, and wanted to confirm something.

I'm an international wave 1 backer. I received a tracking notice from UPS last Thursday. The tracking number currently just says that UPS has received the ship ping info, but that's it. I have not yet received an email from Reaper with a list of what has been shipped.

According to what I've read, this isn't a big issue, correct? The wave 1 ROW's were picked up Saturday morning, and Reaper was having some issues with their email system for the first few days of shipping, so a lot of wave 1 people didn't get emails. I can reasonably expect my Bones to arrive in the next week or so, but for now there's no need to bother Reaper about it, yes?

Was there a Reaper confirmation email supposed to be sent out along with a UPSMI email?

    ...

Edit: aha, got post-sniped by someone with the same issue!

  19. I have a Bones I case which is great for the smaller figures, a Mantis case on the way - maybe - one day.... and a cheap stackable plastic tray from the local hardware mega-store which is great for the large figures.

Only issue with the plastic tray was that the painted bones sliding back and forth on the plastic had some of their paint sanded off the the texture of the plastic. Now fixed by lining the bottom with some of the cheap rubbery-weave cloth that's used to line kitchen draws.

  20. OFFICIAL:

We have found the problem. There was a problem in part of the code that was parsing the array containing the list of items sent that was going Kablooie on commas within the strings.

Kit has shut down the offending parser, and we are now working on getting e-mail generation restored with proper parsing, free of Kablooies.

All indications are that the items were correctly pulled, and there is nothing any of you need to do but sit an wait for your parcels.

This does mean that for a short time tonight, until it is fixed, there will not be an e-mail from Reaper indicating shipment, only one (potentially) from the carrier.

We will work to get those e-mails going out again as fast as possible, and are very sorry for the confusion caused.

An official Update will go out later this evening with a full status report and instructions for those who do not read these forums. In the meantime, anyone wishing to curry favor is welcome to re-port this information in the KS comments.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think we should sacrifice grammar for the sake of functionality... remove the commas, let the emails flow!

Gra'mar was always a fan of written correspondence I don't think she'll mind too much.

I promise to do my best not to wince when I read "Mashaaf the Great Old One".

  21.

And when you do get a tracking number (email me for one if you don't have one by Thursday Night) you'll be thrilled to see it tracks through USPS.com not ups.  USPS being US POstal Service.  SO although the email implies it's UPS, it is more or less as I have described, actually USPS by another name.

RE ROW and Emails - it sounds like it will be ok.

Many/most of us didn't get the proper emails, some of us got UPS tracking emails.

It seems the UPS tracking emails are of little use as UPS doesn't update the status when they hand-off to USPS.

As per the comments from Bryan, the email issue has been fixed and they are working on re-sending all emails, these new emails will have useful tracking codes for USPS.

Also as per the above, please give them until at least Thursday night US time before emailing Reaper about not getting the emails.

W1 & 2 ROW mostly got packed on Thurs/Fri but didn't get picked up Thursday night, presumably they all went out on Friday night or at least by Monday night. There have been no reports of pick up issues since then so we can reasonably assume that has been going ok since then.

If the gods of shipping smile upon us, some us may even receive our boxes before we get the emails.
