  1. This is a project many years in the making. I recently painted my first miniatures from their 15mm line and that has reignited my desire to play their accompanying systems. So jumping in feet first I made my initial order containing multiple starting armies and rule systems. Today everything arrived and I have a new mountain of metal on my desk. So my first decision is 15mm or 28mm first? In the end I decided to start with the 15mm scale figures I fell in love with. Having an understanding of them at that scale combined with a paint recipe made this an easy choice. I got right to work filing down mold lines and nearly finished one bag of miniatures.
  2. Quite awhile ago (sometime in 2019 if I remember correctly) I came across some very interesting miniatures. Finding a whole bag in a bits bin for only a buck the decision practically made itself. Though I had no actual use for them the figures were just that interesting. Thanks to this forum (and it's knowledgeable members) they were even identified as Ion Age miniatures from Alternative Armies. Specifically they are Retained Knights from the Prydian Army. Being busy with other things these figures languished for too long. They were primed but never painted so I've finally decided to rectify that. After reaching a stopping point on my Foot Clan proxies last night (I had to stop as I found I had run out of sealer) I still wanted to paint so I grabbed these. This wasn't a spur of the moment decision however as they were my next planned project. As with every time I paint 15mm I found myself really enjoying the scale. Maybe its just how small the miniatures are, how easily they paint up, or how forgiving it can be for mistakes but there is just something about 15mm. In a very short time I found I had finished my first miniature. I also finished a bit of the basecoat on two more. Knowing that I'd end up basing these sooner or later I decided it would probably be better to do it now. That of course led to a question, "Am I planning to actually play this game?" Looking over an initial buy-in I think it's fair to say I'm probably going to get into this one. Not having the proper size bases for the system however necessitated a trip to the hardware store. So I spent this morning finding the correct sized washers, attaching the figures, and adding their basing grit. Which of course brings us to tonight. Starting off the session I went ahead and finished the other two knights. As they painted up so quickly I moved on to the next batch. Six knights, not bad for two night's work. With plenty still waiting for paint I can't wait until tomorrow night.
  3. Awhile back Little Wars TV offered a complete starter set for skirmish gaming in the Wild West; they called it the Tombstone Tinderbox and it came with everything you needed to get started. The one caveat was that there was a limited number of boxes and once they were gone, they were gone. Not quite moving fast enough I missed out on the box and didn't expect to get another chance. On a whim however I checked their site and saw that they were selling the box. I'm not sure if they actually made more, they found a few forgotten boxes, or if some were returned and truthfully it doesn't really matter. All I knew was that I got a second chance and I leapt at it. Getting my hands on the box I decided to write a thread detailing my adventure in building, painting, and playing the game. Figuring the first few nights might not make for a very good read though I held off writing anything and now I'm nearly finished. Whoops, at least there'll be plenty to see and hopefully I'll have enough to say too. Though not quite a review I'm going to attempt to go over the box from top to bottom. First up is the actual box it came in. Once you peel off the shipping label I've got to say this is a pretty nice little box. Though you'll need to add a second box for the completed buildings transport to the game store shouldn't be bad. The system itself is Ruthless which is only one page of rules front and back. Even better they gave you two copies so you and your opponent can each look up rules or reference the sheet simultaneously. It also comes with a mini campaign with a few scenarios. It also comes with six cardstock buildings and thirteen fences. Having never built cardstock terrain before I have to say these were a blast to put together too. The box also has a small tape measure, 10 Woodland Scenic trees, 18 15mm miniatures, bases (metal washers), character cards, a deck of playing cards, some gaming tokens, card sleeves, a dry erase marker, super glue, and wooden dowels. Last but not least they include a 24" x 24" felt game mat. Knowing I wanted to tackle the buildings first I jumped right in. Having no prior experience I've got to say these buildings really made me rethink my terrain collection. They went together quick and easy, they look great, and they store well too. Getting to the miniatures they painted up very quickly and I typically got four done each night. You'll need to forgive the extreme close up shots and the sins they reveal. At tabletop though they look great and the colors help them stand out on the board. At this point there are only four more cowboys (two standing and two mounted), and two horses left to paint. So just a few more figures to paint before I can really dive into the system. Bonus Though they are not from this box I painted an additional four figures in this scale that I happened to have on had. If memory serves they all came from a Box of Goodwill at some point. First up are a two period "appropriate" figures. These two however are pretty out of place, unless you wanted to add a time travel element to the game.
  4. More 15-mm goodness, this time 15mm in size. These are just little guys! I couldn't resist the singular eye and writhing tentacles. I haven't decided yet what role they should play, but they are very alien aliens. More angles of the three: I feel like they have some kinship with the three-eyed ASSIMILATOR from Antediluvian, though, and wanted a color scheme to suggest it. They are probably, like my other cycloptic aliens, remote phylogenetic relatives of the Illyrians. Just weird little guys!
  5. So as hinted in my US Armored Company thread, here's the beginning of @Glitterwolf's Dragoons! Some work on the Dutch tonight, PTRLs and C&Vs Had a problem with the wash I put on them last night, so had to re do the base coat. Tried a different wash, seen on one of the C&Vs, so need to try something else... Thanks for looking! SGT G link to my US force
  6. Friend of mine asked me to paint these for his Flames of War army. He did the assembly and primer, and will be adding crew and markings. He likes painting 15mm infantry and can't stand doing vehicles for some reason. I'm pretty much the opposite! Anyway, I'm assuming they're Battlefront models. Base colors were airbrushed with Tamiya. Details and highlights were Reaper and Vallejo. Tried using oil paint for the wash for the first time and 'm really impressed with how well it works for this application. Surface tension is a LOT lower than using acrylics so it's a lot easier to get the wash into all the nooks and crannies. Used pigments to add 'texture' to the tracks and dirty up the fenders. All the 'metal' bits are actually done with a mechanical pencil and 2b lead. Pretty happy with how these turned out.
  7. Story Welcome to the Splintered Light Miniatures 15mm Return to the Black Root Forest Kickstarter Campaign. For many years, renowned sculptor Ben Siens has added great sculpts to our line of fantasy figures. A year ago, we ran a successful campaign adding beastmen and treemen into our range of miniatures. Over the past year, Siens has sculpted more wonderful figures for us and we decided to offer them to you via a second Kickstarter. Our primary goal for this campaign is getting the funds needed for the production molds and initial castings. Our hope is that as we get the funding for production molds, we can also keep Ben sculpting new figures for future lines. We need you help to get this done so please pledge today! Our plan is to have 11 new codes but we will also be offering these along with the entire range of Ben Siens sculpted figures. There's only 4 days left in the campaign, so if you want some well-made 15mm goodness... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/splinteredlightminis/return-to-the-blackroot-forest/description
  8. Hi All, I'm starting this thread to show the progress of a Neo-Soviet 15mm army I've been meaning to paint for quite a while .you know the feeling think thats great idea to collect but don't get around to starting them... Heres the lot that will be painted up most of the Vehicles are from Armies Army (sold to Brigade & the Scene in the UK I believe) the BTR 160s & BTR 290s are nice as there are lots of variants APC's Ambulance, recovery vehicles etc which will work well for scenarios which we hope to play. Time to get these out of Storage A lot of Vehicles Nice castings Heavy support from the QRF range Air support / transport (I think this was from the Critical Mass games collection) Infantry (AA which I think Brigade has now) Extra bits such a crew, disembarked crew, machine guns, stowage to add to vehicles Some GZG Robots to be used as mobile gun platforms So as you can see quite a big force I'll keep this thread going as I add to it over the year, I may add a couple of more items as I have no proper tanks in the force and brigade models has now reproduced its 6mm range into 15mm regards '66'
  9. So I have a commission to print a bunch of 37mm Type 55 Chinese AA guns in 15mm scale. Most parts are in resin to get the requisite detail. After 6 hours printing time we have all the gun barrels and most of the cruciform bases complete (unfortunately one failed), the gun mounts and remaining cruciform bases are currently on the printer. I'll add photos of all the parts as they're completed (I won't be assembling them though as I don't trust the postal service!) Questions welcome ;-)
  10. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/splinteredlightminis/fantasy-egyptian-scarab-men?ref=discovery About *****Early Bird Special***** All backers who pledge at the Complete Scarab Experience level within the first 24 hours will receive a free Beast of Ammut figure. I will keep track of the backers who pledge in the first 24 hours but please let me know if you are concerned that you did not make it. Beast of Ammut Welcome to Splintered Light Miniatures' 15mm fantasy Egyptian Scarab-men Kickstarter. A few years ago we released the Sons of Horus, our first fantasy Egyptian themed army, as well as some fantasy Egyptian undead. Over the last few years, we have been planning a series of similarly themed armies and are having them sculpted by Faron Betchley. Our main goal with this Kickstarter is to get the funds we need for the production molds and initial castings. Our hope is that as we are getting the funding for production molds, we can also keep Faron sculpting new armies and mercenary units for future Kickstarter campaigns. We need your help to get this done so please pledge today! Our plan is to have 8 packs of Scarab-men available. Each pack of infantry will have 12 castings. Each pack of cavalry will have 6 castings, and the monster pack will come with one complete monster. Each pack will be $8 at retail. SCAR01 Scarab Command: 3 leader poses, 3 musician poses, 3 priest poses and 3 standard poses SCAR02 Scarab Spears: 6 of each pose SCAR03 Scarab Khopesh: 6 of each pose SCAR04 Scarab Archers: 6 of each pose SCAR05 Scarab Guard: 6 of each pose SCAR06 Scarab Cavalry: 6 of the one pose SCAR07 Scarab Mutant Cavalry: 6 of the one pose SCAR08 Scarab Monstrous Beast For this Kickstarter, I will be offering these at three pledge levels. First, backers can choose to get one of each infantry pose and cavalry pose for $15 as a war band for skirmish games. This option will not qualify for stretch goals. Second, backers can choose to get an army with enough units to make a Mighty Armies army or HOTT army. The army will include: 1 command stand (leader, musician, standard), 1 caster stand (priest + 2 guard), 2 stands of spears (6 figures), 2 stands of khopesh (6 figures), 2 stands of archers (6 figures), 1 stand of guard (3 figures), 1 cavalry stand (3 figures), and 1 monstrous beast (1 figure). This option will qualify for the stretch goals. Finally, backers can choose to get one of each of the beetle packs. This will include packs SCAR01-08 and will give backers 60 infantry, 12 cavalry, and 1 monstrous beast. This option will qualify for stretch goals. Stretch Goals: As stretch goals for this Kickstarter, I will be offering Sobek Crocodile Warriors. These will serve as mercenaries for any Egyptian themed army.
  11. About Hail Commander!, Welcome to COLONIAL SPACE WARS: ARMOURED WARFARE 3. The goal of this crowdfunding is the creation of new vehicles for the wargame CSW. This KS is the continuation of CSW: ARMOURED WARFARE and CSW ARMOURED WARFARE II, which were successfully funded. With your support to this campaign we will expand the range of tanks, mechs and buildings available, making the CSW experience even cooler!. Despite CSW ARMOURED WARFARE models are designed for the wargame COLONIAL SPACE WARS, they can be used in other sci-fi game systems that use 15mm and smaller scales. Terran battleloids ready for action!. These models were 3D sculpted by José Méndez. They are produced mainly in resin, but white metal is used for thinner components. Round 50mm DF bases, required for CSW gaming, are supplied with the vehicles. Size comparison of some CSW AW models. The project is developed by Vedra Games, a Spanish game publisher that has released the board games "Colonial Space Wars", "Dragon Rush" and "Golf´n´Roll". Our two previous CSW Kickstarters were managed professionally and efficiently, and thus we can guarantee the fulfillment of the project. Finally this campaign is just a little fraction of a rich sci-fi universe. In time, we want to reproduce that same range of units in miniatures that it is available in the boardgame CSW version. And with your support we will achieve it!. This Kickstarter campaign will last only 10 days. During this period, backers are invited to join by pledging with different perks (see below). Each perk will require the compromise of investing a certain amount of funding; the higher is this level, the greater amount of additional Tactical Resources (rewards) to choose from. In any case, backers should remember that no charges would be applied in case the minimum required for funding the campaign was not reached. To our most committed backers (Commander pledge) belong an awesome exclusive Kickstarter reward: the centauri Polemarch Minotaur!
  12. This project is now live: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/832150598/war-and-empire-iii-dark-ages Andy has posted up a video showcasing some of the figs that will be available on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ZtSJ6ieU5ms
  13. I'd planned to get started on these a bit ago, but got distracted by other bright shiny objects... Forged in Battle (West Wind Production's historic line) are currently doing their third Kickstarter for their War and Empire line of ancients with a little over a week left. I figured it was time to get started on some of mine from their first Kickstarter for that line, from a couple of years ago. I don't really know what I'm doing with these , and my knowledge of history from the era is primarily from the Iron Maiden song about Alexander, so I'm going to have to do some googling and ask some questions (apparently base sizes and number of figs per base are of some importance....). So to start off, I opened my box from KS1 and grabbed a pack, making sure it wasn't cavalry or camelry or chariots or elephants or anything super cool, since I'll save those for after I know what I'm doing a bit. The pack I grabbed were WE-RP02, Roman Velites, from the Punic Wars. Now in the Kickstarter I picked a couple of stater armies that they had pre-defined. Apparently these guys are from one of those. I'll have to track down which ones I picked sometime soon I suppose. I've got a spreadsheet somewhere..... Anyway, I dumped them all out a sorted them by pose. Looks like there are 4 standard poses, plus a command and a standard bearer. I cleaned them up and got to here: Looks like I got 6 of 3 of the poses, 7 of the other, 2 commanders, a standard bearer, and an extra shield and banner. That adds up to more than 24 figs, which is apparently common with these packs. So, I "think" I need 1 commander and 1 standard bearer, and presumably 22 other guys. And I "think" they go 4 figures on a 40mmx20mm base. But I need to check on all that. And I need to figure out what I'm going to stick them too for painting....
  14. Hi, I found a pack of these little buggers in the 1$ bin of my FLGS. They are 15mm "flames of war" minis (WWII type) and I though I could try to make use of them for my CAV infantry. I just modernized them a bit with some green-stuff goggles (which has the advantage of not making me paint eyes on 15mm minis and match the canopies of my Terran CAV) and did speed paint. Here is the result: They are a bit big for CAV, especially next to a transport vehicle, but they will do for the purpose of the game. Other pic for scale:
  15. It's been a while since I posted anything 15mm. To rectify, I present a planetary defense canon made from bases, found objects, and Lego.
  16. These are my Marine snipers for All Quiet on the Martian Front.
  17. Here are some 15mm models by Ironclad Games. They are part of the Marines Landing Force kit for the game "All Quiet on the Martian Front."
  18. This just sorta happened. No idea if this guy's in the worlds in my hed or not.
  19. West Wind's follow up Kickstarter to their very successful launch of their 15mm ancients line of miniatures is now live: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/832150598/war-and-empire-ii-legions-of-rome It is already funded and headed towards its second stretch goal.
  20. Hordes of Things Jabberwocky Roving the Streets ~ Daughter's Christmas Gift ~ Okay, so I started painting this shortly after I gave it to my daughter for Christmas ... 2014. You can read the WIP. He languished in a box, in my kit, on and off for the last two years. A while back I pulled him out and applied a new paint, Scale 75 Amethyst Alchemy, as a wash over his already green and purple body to give him a metallic look and feel. And now in my recent kick to clear some Shelf of shame Space, I have FINISHED this Jabberwocky. Whew. Just in time to "re-gift" it to her. Here's what went into this bad boy... Basecoats: Body :: Vallejo Yellow Green Face, Underbelly, Spine and Wings :: Reaper Witchcraft Purple Claws and Eyes :: Vallejo Pancer Aces Stencil Washes & Glazing: Purple :: DecoArt's Americana Gloss Enamel Dioxazine Purple Metallic :: Scale 75 Amethyst Alchemy Highlights :: Claws, Wing Spines, and Horns :: Scale 75 Black Metal Horns, Wing Spikes, and Tail Spike :: Vallejo Blue Violet Eyes :: Reaper Sun Yellow blended to Reaper Rach Red Flagstones: Reaper Ruddy Brown Vallejo Yellow Green Reaper Rattlesnake Leather (Promo Color) Highlights :: Reaper Rainy Grey Crevices :: Reaper Grey Liner Base: Happy Seppuku Flagstone Stamp Green Stuff Architectural Tile Sample All in all, he was an interesting build and paint. The only thing I don't care for on this mini was the sculptor's treatment of the claws. They were kind of armor-like and didn't quite fit in with the overall esthetic of the mini. Here's "Wocky" ... Enjoy! Added to Thrym's General Show Off List

  22. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/862832883/battle-valor-fantasy-15mm-table-top-wargame?ref=category_newest Battle Valor Fantasy is a Tabletop Wargame utilizing armies of 15mm miniatures to fight mass Battles and Campaigns.
  23. This was another mini I did at Odyssey con in April. I don't remember the company any more even though the Paint n take people told me who it was. He's from Micropanzer Very quick simple tabletop job. He'll fill in for many small multi-armed creatures of weird origins. possibly the most useful paint n take.
  24. A couple of really tiny guys from Splintered Light Miniatures. These are not only tiny, they are 15mm scale. So the mouse is about half an inch high.
  25. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1835446295/global-defence-forces-15mm-sci-fi-tabletop-miniatu 4 Welcome citizen! The world government has fallen! It falls to us to raise an army to protect and fight for our peace, democracy and freedom! Enlist and support the Global Defence Forces. Join today! At Slap Miniatures we're seeking the funds to hand craft a new range of 15mm (1/100) scale figures, with the retail copies cast as whole finished pieces in high quality pewter. There are two sets of figures on offer, both containing one piece pewter castings of 30 individually posed figures. So with your help in bringing this kickstarter to life there will be 60 uniquely posed figures to choose from. I feel this is important, making every soldier in your table top army look and feel like an individual. The most common soldier in all armies is the humble rifleman, so I've created 30 individually posed riflemen. Furthermore there will also be 30 individually posed 'specialists' to bolster the rifleman. Amongst the specialists there will be 6 different types of soldier armed with differing weaponry. 5 Rocket troopers, 5 Communication troopers, 5 grenadiers, 5 assault troopers, 5 snipers and 5 machine gunners. I've already made 1 of each of the 6 different types of specialists so you can see what they look like, with the rest to be made during the course of the kickstarter. There's also rucksacks available too! Who doesn't like those? Suitable for many 15mm figures I'd just like to explain why I've set the delivery date to July; March: Running the Kickstarter (and attempting to finish specialist figures before the kickstarter is over). April: Will have definitely finished the specialist figures. May: Figures sent off for casting and production. June: Packaging and posting of everyone's pledges. July: A spare month, just in case the moulds don't turn out correctly, figures need remastering or the casters are a little late. As for the Generals pledge, should anyone take one of the three on offer I shouldn't have any difficulty in finishing them when the time comes to ship everyone's pledges. You can probably tell there is a fair bit of leeway for me to finish sending out everyone's rewards. I'd expect to get everything sent out before July. However with the last kickstarter running late I do not wish to dissapoint anyone, including myself
