https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2019/06/28/woman-killed-man-injured-shooting-spurred-parking-lot-fight-lewisville This is just straight up sad from every angle. The reason it gets my attention is that many of us have visited this location. This happened on the parking lot attached to the venue ReaperCon used two years running. It may have spilled out of a high-school party held in that same event Center. (That tidbit was in the TV news this evening.) (Btw, The URL title/headline was not as accurate as it could have been but I guess that is an artifact of early less than accurate reporting. Woman is not so accurate: Amya Alane Batie was just 16.)

Categories: 40-99mm wide/tall (Reaper only) 100mm+ wide/tall (Reaper only) Diorama (Reaper Only) Non Reaper models and Busts over 40mm wide/tall Reaper contest: -- entries must be Reaper figures. Any 40mm or larger figure, metal or Bones, in production or OOP can be entered -- any figure which was painted and finished in 2017 is eligible -- figures that have won a statue level award as a ReaperCon entry are ineligible. This includes a Sophie, Golden Maelee, etc. -- the deadline for entries is Dec 31, 2017 at 11:59 pm CST -- a diorama is defined as two or more figures on a scenic base that helps to tell a story. The diorama may have smaller figures, as long as there is one large sized Reaper figure in the entry -- you may enter as many times as you like, but only one prize per person will be awarded -- each entry needs to be uploaded to the appropriate thread. Please attach your entries using the forum uploading feature or hotlink from the Inspiration Gallery. We want to make sure they're visible at all times. -- you may submit between one and four images of each Single Figure entry and up to six images for Diorama. They do not need to be stitched into a single image file. -- you are allowed to enter miniatures that will also be entered into other contests that might overlap ours. -- the judges or Reaper reserves the right to remove entries if deemed inappropriate, but we're pretty laid back here and this is just to cover our butts. -- the judges and Reaper can clarify and amend rules at will. Image Enhancement: -- digital enhancement ("Photoshopping") of your entry is strictly prohibited. -- no clone brush, healing brush, airbrush, or other brush work. Fix your paint with paint, not with Photoshop. -- no adding or removing background elements from the image -- if you add a logo or a watermark Reaper cannot use your image in their gallery. Note that if your image is selected for the Reaper gallery, you will be credited by name under the image. -- cropping, global color balance, and global level adjustments are allowed ("global" means "the entire image." You may not "pop" colors by only selecting some areas for level adjustment. Non-Reaper contest: -- entries which fit the above requirements (40mm+) or busts that were not made by Reaper can be entered here. -- there is no Reaper prize support for this category -- 3rd party prize support will be determined by donations near the end of the contest.

This year is the year of giving miniatures as birthday gifts to the friends I game with. One of these fine fellows--my oldest and dearest friend--has a birthday in a couple weeks. He loves magic-users and is obsessed with Harry Potter, so I painted up a 25th anniversary Domur as a classic "Gandalf the Grey" style wizard for his present: Tried to layer the flames to give some interesting and pleasing texture. Let me know how I did. Also, given his love for all things Potter, I did my best to modify Domur's spellbook to a more familiar book cover... I'm actually surprised I could keep the brush steady enough for it to come across at all similar, to be honest.

This is pretty done besides the jewelry I plan to sculpt on it. As my scultping is Meh, I'm calling this the final product. I did something different with the eyes as I didnt really want to give her human or dragon eyes so I did neither. I kind of like how they turned out considering she sat unpainted for weeks because I wasnt sure on what to do with the eyes!

So, 2017 was my first year in this hobby. I discovered the joys of miniatures. I discovered Reaper. I discovered Bones 4, and the Reaper forums with it. I'm going to post pictures of everything I've painted this year, more or less in order...with a bit of a blurb about my journey. Starting with before I joined these forums, my first miniatures. KOBOLDS - WizKids Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures - 72557 These were my first miniatures I painted. Yeah. I started with small kobolds... And with WizKids... (I didn't have primer on hand to start). GOBLINS - Reaper Bones - 77024 What comes after kobolds? Goblins. I have no idea how there are only 9, when they come in packs of 6....I only remember painting 9, as well...This is a mystery... Also, these guys got painted based on a Runescape quest...yeah. I'm a nerd. ADVENTURERS - WizKids Deep Cuts - 72596, 72597, 72600, 72601 So I used the WizKids adventures for Acolytes in my Hoard of the Dragon Queen game...yeah...these were my first human paint jobs. Golanth, Half Dragon Warrior - Reaper Dark Haven Legends - 03463 Golanth was the first metal mini I painted. I remember loving tinting his armor. I also had to base him to keep him from falling over. Various Furniture - Reaper Bones - 77319, 77138, 77137 I wanted some dungeon dressing... Swarms - Reaper Bones - 77129, 77128 Thanks to Hoard of the Dragon Queen, the enemies my players are most afraid of are...RAT SWARMS. Yeah, the rat swarms in ch.1 almost ended up with a TPK. Good times. Halfling Rogue - WizKids Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures - 72627 This chick was my first painted player mini. She was a halfling bard. I remember giving up on her eyes. Dracolisks - Reaper Bones - 77379 I was super proud of these guys when I first did them. I loved how the washes looked! Cultist - Reaper Bones - 77351 My goodness, I started to do detail with this guy! I'd actually discovered Reaper's forums with him, but I stayed just a lurker for a while. Andriessa, Female Wizard - Reaper Bones - 77386 OR 77381 (DDS2) I really spent a lot of time on her. I wanted to try and see just how detailed I could paint. More Goblins - WizKids Deep Cuts - 72579 More goblins. Black Bear (Companion Animals) - Reaper Bones - 77216 The druid kept turning into a bear. It made me angry, but I still painted him up a mini. Phoenix - WizKids Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures - 72563 I just kind of stuck some red ink on this one. Deep Ones - Reaper Dark Haven Legends - SKU ????????? (None of my searches are finding these guys) Peryton - Reaper Bones - 77392 I actually used reference photos for this guy! Spiders - Reaper Bones - 77025 Mister Mouse is scared of spiders and hates these guys. He insists I keep them put away. Cassie, Female Gnome Wizard - Reaper Dark Haven Legends - 03340 Recognize her? She was the first mini I posted up on these forums! She was used as my mini for my player character, Ashes. She was also my first attempt at basing. Additionally, you might remember her being my avatar for a long while. Zombies - Reaper Bones - 77053, 77014 I played with some special effects with these guys. I still love the results! Skeletons - Reaper Bones - 77242, 77241, 77244, 77238, 77237 So many skeletons! I also think I have the wrong sku for my spearman... Ghast - Reaper Bones - 77159 Wraith - Reaper Bones - 77097 I tried adding a tuft of grass to this guy, in the back. Plant Thing - Reaper Bones - ????? I got this from Stoneskull...don't know the actual SKU. Bear - Reaper Bones - ?????? I have no idea the SKU on this bear - it came with Bones 3 core. He was my first attempt to paint for display, instead of tabletop. More Cultists and a Circle - Reaper Bones - 77351 I tried to get a glowy effect on the circle...I still like the first cultist I did a little better... Tombstone - Reaper Bones - ????? From Bones 3 Graveyard Necromancer - Reaper Bones - 77283 I hate the paint job I did on her...she's the last mini I painted using only Army Painter Paints... Level Up! - Reaper Learn to Paint Kit - 08907 And so, I leveled up (I have no clue where the gnome went, and the pirate apparently needs a touch-up) Adventuring Kid - Reaper Dark Haven Legends - 03783 And so, I tried to apply what I learned and also do NMM...this kid didn't turn out so great. But I tried! Hot Foot - Reaper ReaperCon 2017 Mousling - 01616 My FIRST MOUSLING!!!! I'm still really happy about how the bubbling lava came out. Also my lesson in painting before assembly. Bandit - Reaper Bones - ????? And so, I went back and tried speed painting something... Lizardman Archer - Reaper Bones - 77425 Speed painted to test Eldar colors... Wrapping Dragon - Reaper Special Edition - 05193 I finally start to be getting shading and eyes! Yay! Christmas Speed Paints - Reaper - ???, 77436, 77435, 77433, 01552 And so, I now speed paint at a much higher quality than I even slow painted at in the beginning. I feel like 2017 was great. 92 painted miniatures later, I think my skill has improved drastically. I hope my skill keeps improving in 2018!

These are what I finished painting this year, a year that was somewhat abbreviated by world events. Really, this is what I painted in the last six months, since political dismay kept me from the miniatures table for approximately eight months after the last US Presidential election. This year I painted my first Reaper Warlord figures who were also my first oversized werewolves, 77754 the Rageclaw Slayer, and 77755, Aislinn, Shadow Tracker. Nearly everything I painted was for the White Wolf World of Darkness and Exalted. Here is what I painted in 2017. I had a lot of fun with the terrain/scenery pieces. Learned a lot from painting the bust and got crazy with my Lost World project. Also had a blast with the diorama challenge and Rainbow Dragon Challenge. Here is Glitterwolf's 2017.

so 93 this year, one less than 2015, but 20 more than last year. wierdly 3 large dragons were painted in each year three years. would have done less but went on a huge blitz of kingdom of death after getting the set in october. Mostly Bones - I did count the smaller dracolisk as one of my three dragons, but I did remove legs and re-sculpt. core villains from kingdom death - the Phoenix and final boss are not finished, and will take a while. Survivors, starting four on the right, gradually gaining better weapons and armor. the last one is built wearing armor made from the phoenix and antelope armor kits. unfinshed things & 3d printed terrain.

Contest 2017 Annual contest Reaper diorama entries
SamuraiJack posted a topic in Exchanges and Contests
Large Reaper based diorama entries only. No more than 6 images per entry please. No chatter or questions, please. Use the Rules and Questions thread. -
I made a SNAFU and double booked myself for the Paint by Die Roll. The great kaiju has used his powers of internet and corrected it. However the Friday event had to be canceled. My apologies to everyone who was so kind to preregister. We have scheduled 2 new Paint by Die Roll events, One Thursday and one Saturday. We also added Survival Speed Paints after dinner every night. They are on the schedule and can be reserved. Again my apologies for messing up people's schedules! ~Ludo

Hey all! Last year I did this via PM, and it was a PITA. So this year I will be doing it out in the open. So, those of you who were on the cards last year, or got a card last year know how the game works, so you can skip the next paragraph. What is Forumite Bingo? It's a convention game I came up with last year and was well received so I will do it again this year. The game is just like what a bingo game would be, but rather than calling out numbers to fill your card, you must go around and introduce yourself to members of the forum who are on your card. Say hi to them, and you can cross their box off. Once you've made "bingo", return to me for your Bingo ribbon. Blackout isn't required, but several people did it for the grins. And there's nothing to 'prove' you met those who you have said you have, just the honor system. You only punish yourself by cheating yourself out of meeting wonderful people. Last year there were more volunteers than spaces, so not every one was on every card, and hopefully there will be enough volunteers again this year. It made for a good variety. So, this thread is not for signing up to receive a card to play. This is a signup for people who are willing to be on a card. The cards will be freely handed out at the convention. Just come find me, and potentially my wife who may have my materials. Be aware, volunteering to be on the card will mean that complete strangers will be coming up to meet you, and they may not be actually signed up and be on this forum. That happened more often than I thought it would last year. If that makes you uncomfortable, then reconsider volunteering. So, a bit few ground rules: Last year I excluded all the Reaper peeps since they are all pretty accessible. The game's purpose is to meet the less visible and vocal. I will continue that. Sorry peeps, we love ya, but I feel that's best. The free square in the middle will be me, since everybody has to meet me to get the card it seems the fairest way. You must be going to ReaperCon to be on the card please! And if possible, the full Thursday to Saturday at least. It's unfair to those whose card you are on if you don't show, or are a Saturday only person. I will not exclude you if you are a Saturday only (or similar) limited attendee. However, people who have you on their cards will get to cross you off without meeting you if you aren't there when they need you for bingo. By replying with the information below, you are giving your permission to use the picture provided and your name provided, and to be inundated with people introducing themselves to you. Once I've printed the cards (much closer to the con than I want), they are set in stone. I can't remove people from the cards, and they're a bit pricy to just toss. Plans change, life happens, and if you become a no-show, you simply become a gimme square and are crossed off automatically by those who need your square. It already happened last year, and well, it will probably happen again. We'll just roll along in those cases. Signups will be open from now until October 1st. That gives me a mere two weeks to randomize the cards and have them printed on card stock. I'll get a mod to lock this thread on that date, and once the thread is locked, no more volunteers will be accepted. One does not need to be very active on these forums to be on the card, but it helps people to recognize you. But I will not turn away anybody that isn't very active if they really want to be on the card. If there's a question about any of these numbered questions, please quote the text since the numbering is automatic and I can't control it if there's an insertion. I will update these rules as questions and issues come up. All ready to sign up? Good! Here's what you need to do. Reply to this thread with: The name you want to use. I prefer your forum handle, so people might have some idea of who you are. They can always write your real name across the square as a way of crossing you off. What picture you wish to use for your square. Again, I prefer your forum picture, but if you are someone who changes it often, I might grab one that isn't current so having you explicitly give me one helps. What days you will be at ReaperCon. I'm planning to put the days you are there on the square somehow, and this will help us know if your are there that day or not. I'm only using Thursday thru Sunday, with Wednesday as a simple bonus day. I think that's it for now. See you all in a month!

The Frequently Ignored "Rules" 1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. 2. In theory there is a 24 hour span to answer that question before the next question is posted. 2.5. (Rule 2 is the most frequently ignored rule.) 3. Questions are going to be posted between 2AM and 9AM GMT (London time). 3.5 (Rule 3 may be the 2nd most broken rule.) 4. Everyone is encouraged to suggest future questions to be posted via PM to me. 5. You do not have to answer every question to play... 6. If a question is TMI or N/A simply wait for the next question.. ..or post that you decline to answer (clues regarding why are always fun). 7. Weekend questions will take the form of two or three day challenges, often starting on Fridays. 1st Question will be posted in a bit (had to wait so it didn't merge posts) ...and this month only... we start on the 3rd.

So I was at the World Model Expo in Chicago last weekend, meeting Corporea and a whole bunch of Reaperites and ogling some of the finest miniatures painting and dioramas the world has to offer (the PA system requested fluent translators at a number of points). I took some pictures. Normally I've been putting up galleries on Photobucket, but they turned evil quite recently, so I'm attempting to put some up here to share. Anyhow, much of the show was historical miniatures, a category pretty new to me, and almost everything was much larger scale than the 28mm I'm used to. As for the vendors, I regret to say that while for the larger figures the men were young, old, noble, peasant, ugly, handsome, heroic, villainous, commonplace, extraordinary, leaders, followers, white, black, Asian, Elvish, Orcish, cowboys, Vikings, soldiers, and fops; there were far fewer women figures and they were overwhelmingly pin-ups. Not that I have anything against pin-ups, per se. I just prefer painting other things. I did pick up one very nice 54mm armored woman to give a try, only to discover Kuro Cleanbrush had done the same with the same model months ago. Good taste, Kuro! ( @Liverpuncher also put up a thread for his World Expo photos here.) Here's a couple of @Wren's pieces, including my own rough approximation of 3D photography: cross your eyes and it's 3-D!

PaizoCon 2017 is happening in Seattle this weekend. Any forumites planning to attend? I'll be there hanging around the Reaper Paint and Take. I know a couple of forumites who will be there but it's always Grrreat to meet more.

If anyone wants to run this years contest, please let me know. Categories have been: 40-99mm wide/tall (Reaper only) 100mm+ wide/tall (Reaper only) Diorama Non Reaper models over 40mm wide/tall we only had 4 diorama entries this year, and a DDS2 that should probably have been in there versus the other category.. Given that we are getting so few.. I am questioning if we want to get rid of it, or offer fewer prizes. there was a request to make the non Reaper category open to Busts as well.. thoughts?

I decided to start painting up minis for my various PCs -An unidentified Grenadier Halfling fighter (chain & shield) as Lvl 7 Rogue, Magnus Perrywhimple (soon to be con only) -Mystic Theurge as Lvl 1 Monk/ Lvl 1 Rogue Stede Blackthumb (Acolyte of Candlekeep), on an acquisition mission to atone for learning and copying ritual magic without permission -Juliette, as Lvl 1 Half Drow Sorceress, Grz'zilda (the Ghastly Gourmet) who was rescued from Hillsfar and while hiding her heritage is now adventuring. I've done a few passes at a few things. But not full base coats yet. Photos later.

Quick paint job on Callie the rogue in bones. I painted her with the skin tone I have been using for my half-orcs. I figure she will see game time as a npc bandit most of the time.

Okay, with Reapercon being relatively soonish, my brain will not stop thinking about ideas and such for Reapercon which isn't a bad thing. A tad annoying but not bad. At Reapercon I picked up these two. And when I ordered the stuff for Secret Sophie I got him And when I went to Reaper the other day, I picked him up (Yes, I know I'm lucky to live close enough to pop over there ) Now that I have them all I can start! So today I went and worked at my computer a bit with my drawing tablet here's what I got so far! This is just testing the ideas. (Please ignore the messiness, lack of detail, and the extra doodles.) What do y'all think? It'll be quite a bit smaller and much of the extra space in the drawing will be gotten rid of. I think I'll add some spiderwebs and skulls to the Maggotcrown portion, maybe a dog or some blood on the ground in the Duskwarden part. Still thinking and letting it process. Any advice would be appreciated!
