In 2018 I got one of my favourite 25th Anniversary miniatures, Darius the Blue. I actually have all three of Darius sculpts, the latest being my favourite too. First I tried to paint it with the same mosaic pattern Reaper used, without any success, so I settled with... kind of a freehand that I didn't like at all and a very excentric color palette. That (in my opinion) failed attempt got stuck on my head and recently I bought another one to paint it again, and I'm a lot happier with the results. This is my only "1 year improvement" pic, and I thought on sharing it here since being the exact same miniature I would love some feedback. Well, and yet another of Reaper’s 25th anniversary miniatures. The second one: Domur. There’s really nothing original here, tried to copy their scheme. I only added a cat, so Darius’s rat has someone to play with.

I actually started a WIP for this miniature: but the idea was to show how I tried to copy the blue mosaic on the clothing that reaper did. I couldn't. That's the story of a failure. So I finally just painted him on a slightly different color scheme, and here we have the results... That's my Darius the blue and his cute rat familiar, Kyorli.

Another attempt at NMM. And funny enough, on another dwarf. And my first shiny gems. NMM is a touch inconsistent this time. I ended up rushing it a bit after the hubby said he wants to use it for a D&D character he started playing. But I have two of these fellas, so I get to work on it more on the other one and as much as red IS the color of dwarven beards, I'll probably play around with a little salt and pepper on the next one.

I have all the 25th anniversary minis and now it's Darius turn. It's one of my favourites; and while frecuently the "official" painting scheme wasn't for me, because many of them were too colorful (let's say Ametrine or Dain) and I painted them somber, I like the scheme on Darius. The issue is... I never tried to replicate such an ambitious pattern: that blue mosaic. I'm not great with freehands, and to cover his entire clothing with it looks almost scary. So I decided to start the project sharing it here. First things first, I primed Darius Black. On second thoughts I should probably used white primer, but well, it's done now... Then based him. White putty to fit his base to the plastic base. Then I decided to try a few colors, and to do that I used another mini I'm not really interested on right now. As you can see on the pic, I tried three different blues for the base color. They all look darker than they should because before I start with the mosaic I will highlight them: the idea is choose one, paint the entire clothing with highlights. I'm still not sure which one. I'm inclined to the one I'm pointing with the brush; but on photo it looks slightly different... I will try other mixes to see if I can find something a bit more turquoise. Now on photo I think that there is too much contrast between the two blues; and when I'm working with Darius, the pattern will be also more neat, small and precise. Now it's a bit rough because it's just all about color. I'm also undecided about the mosaic. I will highlight it too, once applied. I'm using a pale blue, which will be paler when I highlight it. Any advice so welcomed because that's totally new to me...

This year is the year of giving miniatures as birthday gifts to the friends I game with. One of these fine fellows--my oldest and dearest friend--has a birthday in a couple weeks. He loves magic-users and is obsessed with Harry Potter, so I painted up a 25th anniversary Domur as a classic "Gandalf the Grey" style wizard for his present: Tried to layer the flames to give some interesting and pleasing texture. Let me know how I did. Also, given his love for all things Potter, I did my best to modify Domur's spellbook to a more familiar book cover... I'm actually surprised I could keep the brush steady enough for it to come across at all similar, to be honest.

All of the sculpts from the 25th anniversary miniatures were great. All of them amazingly painted. But there was one of them which palette I didn't really liked... too much color :d So I painted my Dain Deepaxe with a sober palette.

Greetings! Presenting Reaper's February 25th Anniversary miniature - Domur, High Mage. I got sidelined by a multiple dragon project recently so I'm a little bit behind with my 25th Anniversary figures project but I'm getting back on track now. I opted out of doing OSL on the spell effect & decided on something gaseous & non photonic (at least, that's the excuse I'm sticking to! ). I wanted to have the spell effect go through a distinctive colour change so I came up with a counjouring technique to explain it; First, Domur reads from the book, this causes a white inert harmless spirit to appear from the pages of the book. Then, as the spirit wafts closer to the magic crystal in Domur's staff, it takes in it's massive power (& colour) & becomes weaponised......... I used metallic blue paint to highlight the inner lining of the cape for an extra touch of wizardly oppulence. Finally, I've managed to sneak my favourite purple into the book cover - I'll be "shoehorning" this colour into all my Reaper 25th anniversary minis as a form of unification. 2 Down, 10 to go....... Greetings! Presenting Reaper's January 25th Anniversary miniature - Grim Reaper. This was quite a straightforward mini to paint, done in a veritable rainbow of dark colours. Working out how to do the hourglass (glass) was a bit tricky, I painted it all black & added a layer of light brown for sand in each half (level with the ground). I wanted to try & make the actual glass purple tinged so I gave the top of each half a purple spot dry-brush then coated both halves with a purple glaze. this did help to tint both the empty & full sections of the hourglass in colour but it's probably too subtle & can't really be seen on the pics. Finally I gave the glass parts a gloss varnish. 1 Down, 11 to go......... (hopefully!)....... Thanks for looking!

One would think I would tire of painting fire Giants. I love Giants of all stripes, but Fire Giants hold a special place in the stone I use in lieu of a heart. This guy was released in the lated 90's as part of the 25th anniversary line. I've got two of them, but this one is the only one painted, and he was completed earlier this year (I believe he was in one of my WIP threads in 2014 or so). Very simply painted to moderate tabletop, the base is a 2 inch fender washer, with the rest of it filled with Greenstuff and sculpted with both a tool and some tin foil. The rocks on the base really show up well in the photos, and I think it was Derek Schubert who posted up a wip to sculpt rocks FOREVER ago, and those are my results (thank you Derek if you read this!). He'll be used as a D&D monster as well as one of Prince Robu's bodyguards in Song of Blades and Heroes and possibly Dragon Rampant. The last two fire giant males have this same kind of grin on their faces, which makes me laugh. As always, C&C welcome!
