  1. Much to my amazement I just finished the Mini. I have to say that this one put me through my paces. I suspect that after three years of painting mini's I have gotten a lot tougher on myself when it comes to how I think my Miniatures should look. I've gotten quite demanding I fear. Since it only applies to my work, thats okay. I glued the mini prior to priming and painting, which makes things much more difficult. On the white front cloth I drew in light gold designs, they are barely seen, The cloak was a blast to paint as was the armor, face and hair. I had to give him that reddish hair just to make our resident Canadian Ranger happy.. Hope he meets your approval robinh. The base was a blast, but a lot more difficult than it looks.Painting the flowers in was a hoot. So, here is my interpretation of the Male Ranger With Bow. Thanks to those that shared their ideas. My hands are saying Rain and T-storms tomorrow, its wonderful being able to predict the weather (NOT). Any comments/Critiques greatly appreciated, and sought after.. Here he is:
  2. Book of Nox:Voyage to Mirovia is the first expansion for Book of Nox, a Victorian horror dungeon crawler and will bring an aquatic steampunk element to the game. The game uses 28mm white metal miniatures with cast resin tiles and doors. Its a 30 day campaign and backing this project you will be able to get the miniatures at up to 35% off the retail price. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1043156996/book-of-nox-voyage-to-mirovia/description http://i.imgur.com/1vf7qIY.jpg
  3. Here is another selection of photos of a set of Gladiators painted for a commission from a friend in work. Not sure of the game but these are the only models and he wanted some more colourful then the light grey plastic. The plastic is a bit similar to bones but a bit more flexible. I kept the pallete simple and quite limited in colours. The facial detail wasn't great on a few and this is the reason why I didn't do any eyes. As always comments welcome.
  4. Sometimes I am not sure the house structure works here as I have just decided to invest in a new army at my wargaming club. We have opted for Lions Rampant and I fancied getting some plastic Arabs. The plan is to build a crusader army at a letter date. Anyway first of all I bought a box of Arab Spearmen and Archers and a box of the Arab Heavy Cavalry. There is plenty of models here for a full retinue so first things first was the initial construction. The models offer plenty of options and they go together easily. I opted to build them all, this way I can play with them even if they are not fully painted. (Although this is frowned upon) The models were all built and then be bases were textured with a mix of sand and grit and sealed with PVA glue. The models were then undercoated black and left to dry.
  5. I was totally impressed by the Impudent Mortal Kickstarter, but seeing as the buildings on offer didn't appeal as much as older stock they had I ordered directly (and boy was it FAST). Because I wanted to get an idea of what I was doing before I tried building my fancy new things, I took advantage of a FLGS gift card to buy a Knight Models SWAT truck for the Batman game. Here are some product pics behind the spoiler The truck/van is mostly done except for touch-ups and sealing... but I'll still be posting process pics that I took along the way. I mistakenly thought it would be faster than a miniature (and I guess it was at my current pace)... but not really. The other ones I'll be posting as I go (I'm planning on using fancy Japanese paper offcuts as wallpaper, so it'll probably be slow).
  6. Well!! today we officially announce the upcoming launch of the Champions from arround the ancient world: SET 3 Kickstarter campaign! The campaign will be launched febraury 8 (monday), and this time we are adding some special for you to use with the minis! As novelty-and since this is the last campaign for 28mm characters from Menhir Games- we communicated with 2 companies that created, each of them, rulesets that fit perfectly with the so particular miniatures: rules for skirmishes of about 4 to 12 miniatures (average) per side, having both rulesets a RPG “touch†making it possible to make very customized profiles to each Champion. By pledging certain level, you as backers will get a "coupon" to use to get the PDF rules, the Printed rules or both of them at an important discount when visiting the editors page webstore. :::::::::::::::: From Metal Express we have Bladestorm: “Bladestorm is ICE’s classic fantasy “skirmish-style†miniatures game. Each figure represents one person or creature. Simple and fast-pace, it’s a raw, hard-edged game with an emphasis on action and color. Bladestorm is designed to stand alone; you never need a referee. Use the Bladestorm rules to fight miniatures battles set in virtually any fantasy world.†https://www.facebook.com/BladestormTabletop/ ::::::::::::::::: From Spiral Bridge Studio ( http://www.spiralbridgestudios.com ) “Rack & Ruin is a campaign-based skirmish game designed for 25mm-35mm fantasy miniatures. Players design the 4-5 miniatures they want to use as characters and add more as monsters or apprentices that follow their heroes. This book contains all the rules for building your party of Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, Orc, Goblin, Risen and Beastman characters. Choose your party’s goal from the 6 provided and then customize your characters with 18 different skills, over 130 traits, and over 70 items." https://www.facebook.com/SpiralBridgeStudios/ :::::::::::::::::: Important! you can already get the free downloadable version of the quick start rules to give them a try! You can found them on www.WargameVault.com Pictures of the models that will be funded: We printed the giant to give a better idea of his... impact? Salutes and stay tunned!!
  7. Here is another selection of models for Eotd and IHMN games. The models have been under coated for some time and I am looking to clear the backlog. There is a set of four with guns and a hulking Mr Hyde style character. And the groupshot. As always comments welcome.
  8. New York Bop by Ghetto Miniatures is getting relaunched on the 1st May, after coming so close to funding first time around, hopefully with a restructured campaign they will fund this time round. New York Bop is a tabletop skirmish game set in the 1970s, gangs battle it out over a campaign map of the New York City boroughs or just in one-off games. There are 4 starter gangs to choose from, with various pledges ranging from just PDF rules to create your own gang member. Il post the start time once it has been determined by Ghetto Miniatures. Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/ghettominiatures
  9. In my ongoing quest to paint a lot of models to play war games with this year I decided to paint a few more Victorians for an upcoming In Her Majesties Name campaign. This is four additional models I have painted over the last week. There are a few more that will be posted here in the coming week or two. First up is individual shots followed by a group photo. As always comments welcome.
  10. Six archers of a Lost Army, from a Lost Kingdom, from a Lost World — six unwavering ghosts, standing defiantly in wedge formation: Reliqua Bretonnia In Memoriam
  11. I had no intention of completing another mini (let alone a mouseling) this week. I just started working on her, and laughing, and giggling, and well. She got finished. I had a base in a baggie that I thought I would never have a use for, and well, I did ! So here we have Lara Kraft, Adventuress by G. Van Horne. I have the picture of her in my mind breaking into a lair of bad guys, jumping onto the pillar at the top of a staircase, and taking them all on ! I thought the gym outfit would fit her spontaneous spirit. Your comments/ and criticism is great appreciated. Do leave me a comment, I love getting your input.
  12. I was reading an article about learning, and it said that you only learn when you are uncomfortable !!! Well, I have been uncomfortable since I started this mini. I honestly had NO idea what a half orc was, how to paint it, How to base it, or what to do with it ! ROFL. So I just started painting up a color scheme, then I saw the bracelet.. Female ?? Maybe... So that changed a few things. Then I just decided go for it, be uncomfortable, and do something different. Well, Its different. I mixed all my own colors, and just went for the Gusto. Oh.. the rock is a chunk of tree bark ! (Like I said, something new for the basing). So, Here is the Female Half Orc Fighter by Stonehaven. Your C&C's are greatly appreciated, and desired. Please let me know what you think.. I added a better photo showing her from a straight on view. Now you can see her face. Jay
  13. UPDATED: Lands of Ruin is noww live and funded on Kickstarter(see my post further down the thread for more details. Kickstarter link: http://tinyurl.com/zy9x7oq This looks interesting a tabletop game using a tablet/mobile!, it will be launching on Kickstarter on the 19th February "Lands of Ruin is a post-apocalypse, tabletop wargame. However, it is not just another run-of-the-mill clone of every other game on the market. This next generation tabletop game utilises the recent advances in mobile technology to bring a more realistic, faster paced, and deeper gaming experience to the already mature tabletop wargaming genre."* "With the Kickstarter campaign we will produce a line of high quality resin cast 28mm scale miniatures. These 3D sculpts were created by an amazing Romanian sculpter Silvaticus."* "The range of miniatures consists of 6 hero characters. Each hero is accompanied by 3 cohorts. Players will build their own tribes with any combination of heroes by unlocking them to their account. To play the game players will choose (usually) 2 or more heroes from their tribe for a battle and fill in the rest of the team from the cohorts of the selected heroes."* http://landsofruin.com/2016/01/26/lands-of-ruin-kickstarter.html There is also an ambassador program for Lands of Ruin "The Land of Ruin Ambassador Program is a way for us to support, reward and recognise the work our community does helping new players to get started with Lands of Ruin.We are still working to form the exact details of the program, but the goal is to find ways to reward the most active Ambassadors, as well as allow us to directly support the community and any individuals wanting to introduce their local community to Lands of Ruin."* "To join the Ambassador program, start by filling out in the Lands of Ambassador Program Registration form or email Juhani directly at [email protected] We will get back to you ASAP!"* http://landsofruin.com/2016/01/30/Ambassador_program_announced.html * from the Lands of Ruin website
  14. I have bucket loads of these plastic archers. I painted some of them last year for these monthly challenges. Someday I would like to have a painted unit or two of them. If that is ever going to happen I need a super-fast speed-paint method to get there. This was one such experiment... ...such as it was. I went into it with the idea, "what would I do if these were tiny 10 or 15mm figures"? But do that with these bigger figs. I needed to do something fast before February expired.
  15. Here is the next Heresy model from the current batch of models to be used in Frostgrave, my only concern is he is such a large model that he is going to be an arrow and spell magnet. As always comments welcome.
  16. In my ongoing set of Heresy Miniatures I present Kage Dar a young barbarian by Heresy Miniatures, once again an amazing sculpt and hopefully one I have done justice with. I spent a bit of time building up the skin tone and I am happy with the results in daylight. As always comments welcome.
  17. Here are a few more shots of the current selection of models I am working on, so far I am finished the models I got for Christmas which jumped the painting queue and were based and undercoated over the holiday. First up we have 4 zombies some are showing a bit too much detail for a closeup shot, so I group shot will have to do. Next a young barbarian, this model will be used in Frostgrave along with a lot of my current models. And next up we have Big Boris, if ever you needed a Barbarian for your Frostgrave group I don't think you can do much worse then Boris, although he is rather large and that will make him quite a target for archers and other ranged attacks. As always comments of suggestions welcome, I try and post these as a WIP but I get carried away and the next thing you know they are almost complete.
  18. Here is a few more models completed so far this year. I decided to finish the remaining slugs and the Terror Grub. I kept the paint scheme the same as the four previous ones. Here are some closeups of the terror grub showing details of the mouth. These were nice and easy to paint and I can't wait to get the out on the playing table. As always comments welcome.
  19. Here is a selection of four Heresy Giant Slugs, these are made from resin although the ones listed on the website are metal. These were washed but I still had some trouble putting on some primer, for some reason it wouldn't stick, so I ended putting on a thicker coat of tanned skin as a base coat. Here is a quick scale shot for comparison. As always comments welcome.
  20. There are few models I purchase that jump to the front of my paint list, the number of Bones 1 models to paint can vouch for this, however as I am currently in a Frostgrave mood I picked up the following model from Heresy and I had to get this painted and on the table as soon as possible. The sculpt although quite simple is awesome. As always comments or suggestions welcome.
  21. Here is a quick show off for a model I recently picked up from Heresy Miniatures. I really like some of the models in the range as they have a very old school look this one in particular appealed to me as I can see it as a character as well as a statue. ( I have a second to be mounted to a plinth of some kind already) As always comments or suggestions welcome.
  22. A few pics of my latest Reaper D&D monster...the Tortoise Dragon. Kevin in Edmonton http://www.mageknightkevin.blogspot.ca
  23. As I continued with my Mantic models I have kept painting my Bones models for use in Frostgrave. These models will be of great use. This is a Male Elf Paladin 77044. I have kept the paint scheme simple and plain, I'm quite happy with the results and the detail on the face. As always comments welcome.
  24. To save producing three new topics I decided to group them together in one thread. All these are by Westwind Minatures and are still part of the EoTD Kickstarter (yes I still have 20 to go and will do for quite some time!!) First up is another victorian gentleman, I attempted something new here and tried to paint tweed, this isn't too bad for table top standard but I would need to practice if I do this again. Next up is either a man servant or page boy, this model is shorter then most of the 28mm models. I have painted him in a simple scheme. And finally a criminal from the Holmes Nemesis set, I think this guy is supposed to portray the fugitive from the Hound of the Baskervilles. (Can't think of his name at the moment) As always comments welcome. I have 4 more of the current EoTD models to finish and then it's back onto some Bones.
  25. Here is another completed Westwind Miniatures EoTD miniature. Here is from the Victorian Nemesis Set, and so that is why I decided to give him a nice evil look. I'm quite happy with the red cloak and the clothes. As always comments welcome.
