  1. The bugbears that came in Bones 3 (the 4 identical ones) all had really floppy maces. Last night I decided to do something about that. One got a plastic ax from the weapons sprues, while the other is getting a spear based on a bamboo skewer. I'll be adding a proper spear to the tip of the skewer made out of greenstuff, but I need to make it first.
  2. These guys had been sitting on my desk of unfinished minis for a long time, so in February I finished them up for the "finished, not perfect" section of the Jan/Feb RP Challenge. Total models for January/February 2019 ended up being 5, but that already is more than I typically get done in that span, so I'll call it a win. Thanks for looking! C&C welcome.
  3. Hi guys, My take on this bad boy :)
  4. Okay here is my finished Bones Bugbear. CC always welcome.
  5. It has been a while since I have posted any of my work, and sadly that is because I haven't had much chance to do work. Nothing fancy, mostly just quick tabletop. Recently I managed to get a few bugbears and rats done up for a DnD 4th campaign I am running. The players have bitten off a bit more than they can chew, with a goblin army chasing them through the woods after they freed a dozen prisoners. Rogg is the charismatic (is that the right word for a bugbear?) warlord that the players will likely face if they stay to defend the village that will now have an angry horde of goblinoids coming their way. More rambling and pics on my blog.
  6. When I first ordered the 4 identical figures I am pretty sure they were the only bugbear sculpts available. Somewhere along the line I decided to pick up the others as well. These will ensure I am not lacking bugbears in my D&D games for sure. However I would still like a ranged figure or two, and a shaman at some point. 77232: Mogg, Bugbear Warrior 77231: Rugg, Bugbear Leader 77233: Kegg, Bugbear Hunter 77015: Bugbear Warrior
  7. Hi y'all! Real life has temporarily taken me out of the loop, and I haven't posted or checked in on this forum in a good long while. But I've at least been getting the occasional paint session in, and thought I'd put up a few of the things I've been working on. Here are the four Bones Bugbears, ready to put down the hurt on my D&D tabletop. I love these sculpts (by Tre Manor), and I think they are some of the minis that worked out really well in Bones (had to pin in a little metal rod in that spiked club though, as it was a bit too flexible). They were slightly too large for 25 mm bases, so I put them on Dragon Forge Design 32 mm Sanctuary bases (really love these for D&D dungeon critters). Anyway, I'm quite pleased with them, although they look quite rough when photographed. Hope you like em!
  8. Very quick speed paints, hardly worhty of a show off thread but oh well here they are anyways 77233: Kegg, Bugbear Hunter 77232: Mogg, Bugbear Warrior 77231: Rugg, Bugbear Leader 77015: Bugbear Warrior x4 77388: Gnoll Warrior 77236: Bloodmane, Gnoll Warrior 77235: Toghra, Gnoll Leader 77234: Boneflail, Gnoll Cleric 77104: Blacktongue, Gnoll archer x2 77012: Gnoll Warrior x 4 (1 with modded weapon)
  9. My collection of painted bugbears continues with Rugg their leader and a generic bugbear warrior who features a weapon swap from one of the Bones orcs. In addition, I have the Hobgoblin Sorcerer with the addition of a Web spell because frankly, the Web spell in 5e is amazing. His base was created as my first attempt using a base pad from the Basius 2 Kickstarter.
  10. I'd done a Bones bugbear back just after I started painting again. At the time I tried to match him to a bugbear I'd painted years before for Chainmail. When I did him I used a lot of Partha paints. Those paints have since been passed to a friend since I'm using mostly Reaper now, with some Army Painter, P3 and Vallejo thrown in. So I decided to figure out some current colours that came close. They aren't the best pics, but I've been sick, so I'm happy I just got them finished by the end of the month. Over all they came out close enough to the originals as to look like normal variations to me. These guys are a little less orangy yellow, and there hair isn't quite as red. But I think they will do nicely. I did them all with the same colour kilt thingy as I've got two (or is it 3) more of each, so will do two more "squads" with different colours.
  11. Finishing off the bugbear horde. albino bugbear idea stolen from another poster. I have to keep all those bugbears with the same weapon distinct somehow.
  12. 2 of these are from Bones 2 and one I bought when they first came out, prior to the kick starters. The base skin tone is Army Painter desert yellow. My photo backgrounds are all too small to handle these guys all at once, so that's just a piece of black felt.
  13. These guys were mostly painted at a local paint day. with CMPA. I discovered that only one had good eyes, so I took them home and redid all they eyes. One was weapon swapped with a gnoll so that both tribes have more weapon variety. The gnoll is currently wielding a toothpick spear and I haven't decided if I need to add greenstuff details or just paint. the studded leather armor was rough, and I think at least one needs some touch-up on this boot (after looking at photos)
  14. I hope I am doing this right. I tried to shrink the picture sizes so they weren't massive. Anyway. I was introduced to minis when I asked a gamer friend to teach me how to play D&D. He has thousands of minis. I bought some rats and beetles and he gave me tips on how to get started. I enjoyed that so I purchased some minis, paints, and brushes and started painting. Then I found the forums and I started reading the posts and following the WIP's to learn to get better. I checked out many of the "how to's" and started trying new methods. I think they have helped and I feel I am getting better. So, I am going to post some pictures starting with my earliest stuff (2 months ago) to present (finished last night.) I will post a few photos and make subsequent posts with the rest so I don't jam everything into one post. (If I am posting wrong, please give pointers!) Also, this is the first time I have tried taking photos of my minis so they aren't super great. Mocking Beast #77048 Mouselings Archer and Wizard #03529 Treasure #77138
  15. To quote from my WIP: "For my first Bones II minis I'm tackling the Bugbears. Given that they are a mainstay of d20 they should see plenty of use. For my color I went with the 2E description of "Their hide ranges from light yellow to yellow brown and their thick coarse hair ranges from brown to brick red." Now as you probably don't remember, I have never particularly cared much for the VGC Dwarf Skin & Elf Skin that I've had since my earliest painting days. I usually feel that what I end up with looks either somewhat jaundiced or a bit orange, but I own the paint and it's better to use it than for it to dry up. So for my latest attempt I'll add a couple of colors into the mix that I like, VGC Heavy Skintone and the Vallejo skin wash. Also I'll throw in a little purple in the shadows just to push them back. Even if it ends up looking somewhat inhuman I can just say that it's all natural Bugbear skin." I actually don't have any kind of lightbox big enough to photograph a group of bugbears, so here they are under one of my painting lights. I stuck them on 1" bases just so I could call them "medium" creatures if we ever use a grid again, but as you can see their stance is a little wide even for the diagonal (1.4", 35.9mm). They are all also missing one of their lower tusks, but oh well. Can't complain too much considering the price. Sadly, they all took much more than 40 minutes apiece. One of these years I'll have to learn to speedpaint.
  16. A conversion started for a barely ran 4E Essentials PC, and finished yesterday.
  17. Ok, here are three more that I painted in the last month. More will be forthcoming, I'm putting the finishing touches on some rats, another orc, and finishing up some skaven that I started a long, long time ago. I also need to do up the half-giant hero for a game... The bugbear. Lot of good paint jobs on this guy out there, I made a conscious decision not to make the hair and beard distinct from the fur, just shaded it a bit darker: This is Garrick the Bold (Crusader with Sword and shield,) but in my Pathfinder game he's presently a 4th level Paladin named Heodin (HAY-oh-din, I'm on an Old English kick right now.) And here's one of three goblins. Comments of any kind welcome! These guys are done (unless you spot something glaring,) but I'll definitely keep any criticism in mind for the future.
  18. Here's my take on the bugbear. This is my first real re-basing attempt. In the past, I have done some really minor basing onto square tiles, but I spent quite a bit more time on this one. I cut off most of the broccoli base, and glued him to a Proxie Model circular base. I used some modeling paste to fill in the base, and then various ballasts for texture. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, although I learned a lot for future attempts; most notably, base a few models at the same time, should speed the process up quite a bit. This is also the first time I have tried dark lining. I saw how effective Buglips uses it in his WIP thread, so I decided to give it a try. I am undecided whether I like it or not. I used Reaper MSP Brown Liner. Very little of it actually made it through to the final product, but you can see it in a few areas. I found the base skin layer took quite a bit longer, as extra coats were required to cover up the liner that slopped over where it shouldn't. My metallics still suck. I need to figure out a method to improve them as I have yet to be very happy with any of the weapons I've done. I get a bit lost trying to figure out where to highlight on a weapon like this guy's spiked club. I've got the Bones minotaur in progress now, hopefully I can get him done before the Bones invasion lands. C&C welcome!
