Another quickie for practice, comments and criticism welcome: I wanted to try painting white cloth, specifically on the ruffles. Circumstances dictated that this become grayish ruffles, as often happens, so her shirt became gray as well (on purpose). It pairs well with the blue at least. The highlights in her dress turned out fantastic! And then were accidentally wrecked due to a mixup of blues. I salvaged what I could. Never really tried black hair with highlights before, not sure it came out right. The only black I have is Black Ink, and used some Breonne Blue to highlight. Didn’t spend a lot of time on it though. Still can’t do eyes right, but I like the way her lips and jewelry turned out. It’s not really visible in these shots, but I managed to dot her necklace quite well (for me). Never came up with anything interesting for the shoe, however. Base is Ginger Cookie (and probably not quite dry). I like this sculpt, but there are mold lines something fierce. I got many, but am far too chicken to attempt more. A dollar store craft knife is woefully inadequate to the task.

Results of painting in tonight's hangout: 9 ghouls, 3 zombies, Rex, Ellen Stone, and a Strumpet. Still need some guy with a knife, some police, and possibly a vampire for a game Saturday evening.

A fellow player in a Reign of Winter game has been "tooling around"* with an unpainted strumpet miniature. I offered to paint it if she told me what she should look like, and so I was given an unpainted Bones mini and a quick watercolor sketch to work off of. This is the result, after a couple hours of work! Overall, I'm pretty happy with her! She is not great, but I'm improving. This is also some of my better work on hair, ever. That Jessica Rich DVD from the kickstarter is starting to pay off. However, I still did just a quick paint up (probably 2 hours...) and the quality needs to be higher. Things I know did not go as planned: The blending on the dress was incredibly subtle--not sure what I was thinking here, exactly, but the contrast should be way higher. The blending on the hair highlights looked so much better before it dried. Oops. So mental note: esp. for a display piece, let it dry and then really check it out before you seal it. The transitions are way too abrupt as it stands. General smoothness of blending everywhere could be improved. Still on broccoli base. Sad. Any additional C&C? Beyond the paint scheme, I suppose, since I'm working with a player's desired colors, anyway. * as the kids would say it ** ** back in the 50s, maybe... Note: this is a repost! It looks like three posts, two of which I finished writing, all ended up with the same post ID, which caused all sorts of mayhem. Attachments only worked on one of these posts at a time and it looks like all of the tags got thrown together. This should fix the problem...

It looks like this and another post of mine (plus a third that I didn't finish posting) were all assigned the same post ID (or some similar identifying value) when I duplicated the new thread page last night. It looks as though everything got pretty mangled, and the only way I know of off the top of my head to fix this is to start a new post. That thread is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/61556-77086-townsfolk-strumpet/

Got out my paints again. I am switching from Games Workshop paints to Army Painter. I bought myself a full set for Christmas. I am having trouble getting used to the thicker paint. Strumpet Blacksmith

Think this is my last post for this last batch of photos, thanks for looking this week at all my stuff! I went in to painting my townsfolk with one goal, to use more colors. In some places I succeeded, others not so much. I ended up using a lot of glazing for the bigger cloth areas, I think I may need to hit it all with another coat of matte sealer now that I have seen how some of the pictures came out though. Pretty shiny here and there unfortunately. First up, the chorus shots: Then the individual cast photos... Thanks for hanging in there all week with me!
