Hello all you Reaper people! So, Bones V will be hopefully arriving in the next few months, and one thing I told myself was that before I got my package, I wanted to finish the smaller Yephima sculpt before the new and larger Yephima shows up at my door. I really love both versions, and I just wish this Yephima would be available in metal. I tried painting her already years ago, started even a WIP in the forum, which I'd have to hunt down. My original thought was make her a very, dark dusky color and blonde hair with pinks and oranges, but at one point my inspiration went awry and I stopped painting her probably to be an eternal WIP. But then a few years later, I got a new copy and this one I did more sky blue and blonde, but it doesn't look as pinkish as I originally had thought. I also think I made my metals way too blue, but oh well. I actually enjoyed painting this lady to the degree that I could see myself painting her again with a different color scheme. One of the other benefits of Bones is the cost, I can grab a new one quickly for around 7.00, so that's also a nice Bones bonus! Anyhoos, here she is: With such a big model, after taking photos, I can see so many glaring issues, but oh well, not going to let myself worry about it too much and will rather maybe go back and paint her up gain some day, incorporating a few fixes.

So now that the contest is over, here's my Giant entry. I was short on time (and may go back and highlight and drybrush to finish), so I did not do as well on her as I wanted. Hope you all like the use of breast cancer pink:)

Howdy, She's from Cloud Nine... Kev! P.S. She's not big boned, she's fluffy! P.P.S the tags are acting weird... limit 4, no caps? P.P.P.S It's cotton ball material on the base

These are the first figures I painted after lurking around here for a few months. Think they came out well.

Heya! Just started two new projects and I am excited to share. I didn't know which one to do first so I prepped them both. This is my first time at a resculpt. Nothing major. I covered the mold lines on Yephima's hair and on her back. For the chipmunk mage, resculpted the tortoise shell because I didn't think there was enough definition. Also I had to fix the scroll because there was a hole. I am undecided on the color schemes, but for Yephima I am thinking a clouds at sunrise palette. Any thoughts from you folks?

I'm super in love with this mini. It was so much fun to work on. And I'm VERY happy with how the eyes turned out because that's something I struggle with a lot. The lighting here is not great, I have misplaced the power cord to my light box, and somethings are off color from what it should be.

So I'm going to try to keep up with a new WIP. I started painting Yephima yesterday and I hope to finish her by the end of the month. Here is my progress so far: I first put down a thin layer blue liner and then based her skin in MSP Ashen Blue and her armor and hair pieces are MSP Ancient Bronze. I missed a couple of bits of armor that I need to go back and do. I haven't yet decided what other colors I want to do on the rest of her. I'll normally plan this out ahead of time but when I went to my notebook nothing was written down on her page. Oops. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I had a lot of fun with this, but I think she looks more like a storm giant, so I painted her how I thought she would look. This is a better photo pair than the last Reaper quarterly contest (which I photographed and took a not-as-good photo of her). Her basing is made of the Happy Seppuku "Splintered Wood" stamp, the sand/asphalt stamp, and a resin railroad rock I cast myself to look as if it were "un polished marble." The pink/purple armor was a decision by my daughter, who wants everything to be pink and/or purple. As always, C&C welcome!

Yephima, painted up as some sort of ice giant instead. Second try with the "snow" (just did one test base first) so it's a little rough. It migrated up the silver paint, unfortunately, but I'm actually okay with how it looks like it's sticking to all the exposed metal.

Two that I finished: James Wapple "Shaded Basecoat" class. four colors, big cheap brushes - she was nearly finished in a 2 hour class - I added foliage, a few more green highlights. I wanted to leave t mostly just like it came out of the class. Front Back Side This was painted in Wapple style, but as a speed paint with Coporea dancing around the table egging us on. I wasn't happy with the result and spent several hours at the convention cleaning it up and basically repainting it. At one point his jacket was actually purple. I don't really like the figure, and it wont see much use in my fantasy games. But you see I have this motto.. "Must paint all the things" His face is still a little rough, but this was the 4th repaint of eyes, and enough is enough. Unfinished figures: I am choosing to leave these unfinshed, so that when I look at them I can examine the techniques I learned in class, instead of just another finished figures. painting the difficult colors (Black, White, Red.) and flesh and faces (Coporea)

Ok my daughter has painted a few things since Reapercon and receiving her Vampire box from someone (who I don't think is on the forums yet or does not visit much) and her paints from @Harrek. The first one she chose out of all the minis in the Vampire box was 77137: Sarcophagus: Next she chose a mini that she had painted from my set 2 years ago. 77162: Yephima, Female Cloud Giant: Can you guess which one was from 2 years ago? Today she painted 77067: Virina, Female Demon and wanted to base her so I got out the supplies received at Reapercon. I did the glue work and she did everything else. Front | Back | Alt Front View Any tips on what to do with the based mini from today and protecting it from losing the basing materials? Would the spray on sealer I have help in any way or just mess it up?

*deep breath* I'm trying something completely new here. Actually, not so much one thing as several things. Okay, what I'm really doing is hurling myself at full speed off the cliffs of insanity. Let me explain. Ever since the 2014 Year of the Giants contest was announced, I've had it in my head to paint Yephima as though her exposed skin was a starry night sky, and her skirt like a sunset. This idea has grown until now the following is my plan: - Skin: starry night sky, complete with a few galaxies, a comet, and a few planets. - Hair: Clouds, perhaps as a partly cloudy sky? - Skirt: Either an actual sunset, or just sunset colors. The former is quite likely beyond my skills, given all the folds in her skirt. - Breastplate: stormy sky with the trailing ivy pattern on her left side painted like lightning - Club: Contemplating painting it to look like a crashing waterfall. Haven't decided on this one yet. - Assorted armor bits: Probably silver and gold metallics. Because I need to have some shiny in there! :) - Crown: Bright sun colors, or possibly mimicking the sunset theme from her skirt to draw the eye to her face - Eyes: I was originally considering starry gems, but I just realized they'd get lost in the other stars. Perhaps as nice turquoise cabochon jewels instead? - Base: Either cut her off her current base and attempt to sculpt a cloud-sorta thing, OR find some fine fluffy stuff that can mimic clouds and glue bits all over the included base to make it look like she's standing in/on clouds. I'm more inclined toward the second option, for reasons I'll explain in my next post. Is most of this slightly (or in most cases, a lot) beyond my current abilities? Yes, yes it is. Am I going to go for it anyways? You betcha. I will most likely end up scaling some of these things back, given that I've only got about a month to do this in. But I at least want the skin and the skirt to end up like I'm envisioning. :) Huzzah! --OneBoot :D

Yephima, Female Cloud Giant has a (WIP thread) this took many days of painting. It eventually will get a snow covered base. Mocking beast (mimic) my first unambitious attempt at basing. the base was from a box of good will, put in by Sirithel. Judas Bloodspire, Vampire Ragnaros, Evil Warrior Kord the destroyer Bastic Oliver - this is my friend's dwarf ranger PC in my 13th age game. A throwing axe specialist in leather armor. His "One Unique Thing" is that his excrement is gold. The process is painful and has resulted in several types of trouble and lots of paranoia. I am adding a gold 'nugget' to the base behind him. I may have to add some grass to make it stand out against the brown dirt.

When I got BONES KS, I pulled a few figures to the side, thinking I will paint this when I am better. so now I am better. Giants need a lot of attention, because the details are so much bigger. The eyes are actually visible from table top distance. There is so much skin that being able to do smooth blends is a must, and the amount of skin highlighting pretty much demands NMM so as not to clash with real highlights. okay maybe im not that good. lets find out. Day 0: surf through inspiration gallery and show off threads look for the color scheme I like best. Martian Jones. will be my inspiration. light blue almost gray skin, gold NMM armor. ill give her darker hair, and make her armor less blue. I'm not certain about the white skirt. Day 1: violet liner, because I just got it, and violet undertones might look cool. Day 2: many layers of skin glazing later, dropped thin gray on the club so I could figure out the details - the figure on the club is much better in metal. I also spent 20 min looking for the muddy brow to use as shadows on her armor. I have too many paints not enough organization. There were many distractions, but my visible work today was going to consist of making her rump look slightly less blue, (work done after photo) and putting a layer of brown on her armor. bleh. Day 2b: instead of cooking dinner, went back to painting. (little ones and I are going to a school pizza party) that gives me another hour! Muddy brown and woodland brown mix, some glaze layers of woodland brown. Its starting to looks like gold! notes after looking at photos: more shadow in elbow, less shadow under hand, more highlight on top of left arm, clean up edges around garter belt and anklet. comments and criticism welcome.

Continuing to post from my latest latest photo session, here's the unnamed male storm giant and Yephima. Both loaded up on NMM, and a fun attempt at an aqua glassy armor on Yephima. The storm giant's face has a wicked moldline I don't think I've ever seen before until I got this picture linked up and previewed. I didn't notice it while painting, nor have I noticed it when handling it later... oh well. Next time I'll get them all. I promise. Maybe.

Yephima was one giant experiment for me. Not only did I have a new skin recipe to try out, I ended up with a new hair recipe, blued TMM steel, learned a bit about TMM gold, practiced blending, frosted her then damaged the varnish on her arm and got to practice defrosting and repair all at the same time. Oh, and I decided to see if cotton would sell as clouds. For the curious, most of these trials can be found right here, in our own WIP section. To start, the full rotation: Just in case the clouds didn't work, I took a shot before I started to make them. And finally, the action shot. Defeat those pesky invaders Yephima! ...and, uhm, ignore the camera flash.

My girlfriend and I painted about two dozen mega-minis a few years back, but thats about it. She has other painting experience. I'm mostly useless. After inventorying the Bones, she painted up a nice Cloud Giant while I ruined some rats and a skeleton. Her eyes were intentionally left clear and "cloudy". Maybe she's a blind oracle. She keeps improving, I'm not getting any better. But I guess i still have over 400 chances to try! I guess I'm just looking for any kind of comments.
